Will we see DirectX 12?

Hey, sorry if this is the wrong forum, I couldn't find a more suitable one.

But basically, DX12 is launching soon (some of us already have it on Windows 10), and it offers some amazing CPU efficiency. Those of us on the red team (AMD) know how much CPU overhead is required by the drivers, and DX12 eliminates most of it. This game is very CPU intensive, with very noticeable drops in Cyrodiil and cities. A lot of the performance problems that have been acknowledged would be almost mitigated with a switch to the new API.

I know how hard it is to put a new feature set into a current game, but this game could be relevant for years to come, and I shouldn't have to worry about my FPS literally halving when I walk into Riften. Besides, we don't need any of the new DX12 features, just having that pipeline would be very beneficial.

No we'll never see Dx 12 on ESO, DirectX is a graphics API (Application Programming Interface) and they need to be made compatible with engines along with graphics cards; even if it was easy it'd still be unlikely to be optomised as in ESO DirectX 9 still has poor support and far more graphics bugs than Dx11 which it seem the game is based around. As for Linux (OpenGL) I cannot say as I'm playing in Windows (does ESO even support Linux?).

If you're looking for Dx12 then I'd keep an eye on the next generations of MMOs using next generation engines; or we may be lucky and the game does REALLY well and survives for many more years when It'd become reasonable to see Dx12 implemented.

    Bottom line: extremely unlikely.

    Hail Sithis.

Well MMOs are designed to last for a very long time, and many have had patches which raised support for DX. WoW for example was released on DX9 and patched to support DX11. Witcher 3 (not an MMO, I know) is reportedly going to get a patch to support DX12 after it is released. I hope it's not completely off the table because it would fix many issue with the game.

Add LOTRO to that list, because it's engine got D3D11 support a few years after launch as well.

I think it's safe to say that it's not uncommon for long-lived MMOs to get rendering engine improvements from time to time. It all depends on demand and market saturation of new technologies and APIs.

Exactly, and this game is bogged down and unoptimized at times, this API is specifically made to adress CPU overhead. Would make a huge difference.

Just read a Time magazine article regarding DirectX 12 and that it will be amazing for gamers running Windows 10, however the game has to be DirectX 12 aware to benefit.

Does ESO plan to upgrade for DirectX 12?

I apologize for the thread necromancy, but I'm wondering if and when this is going to happen as well.

Better upgrade to Vulcan and wipe out other APIes from game engine.

I don't know a lot about Vulkan, but how would it be an improvement over the others?

Crossplatforming enough for you? With this APi you can play on any platform with any OS and any videocard. Graphic quality as DX11 and DX12 but for all, not proprietary microsoft windows 8-10 systems and top video cards. You can see gameplay video from DOOM 4 with this API and you see how it's work.
