vanity pet behaviours

First of all, I love "pets"... but, it kills the immersion. Just think about a real life situation,

Your loyal dog will attack to your enemy and tries protect you.
Your panther will pounce from behind.
Cats and other small pets will scatter and hide.

So please make it like real. Our pets don't need to do any damage at all !!! Just make them appear like that (like zero dmg allied npc fighters)

Dwarven sphere is good. It's a construct and its de-armed. it can't attack and it doesn't need to run away. So, only that one behaves optimally.

One of my cats is far more likely to attack my enemies than my dog ever was. If someone came to the door the dog would come to see who it was, but if she didn't recognise them or wasn't sure about them she'd hide behind me until I could convince her they're ok. If they had actually attacked me she'd probably run away. (And she was a Labrador/German Shepard/assorted medium sized working dog mix, not one of those hamster sized dogs that's scared of everything.)

I'm not too sure about guar but the bearded dragon at my old work place would go for people too.

I'm not suggesting any of these animals (real or in-game) would actually be any good in a fight, but I don't think it's fair to say they'd run away just because they're smaller. Cats especially don't seem to take that into consideration.

They need to sell a vanity pet in the Crown Store that follows you around and is named Lag Monster, they would sell a ton of those.

    @ Danikat,
I can agree with that. They can do anything reasonable. They might even have different personalities.

They just shouldn't stay still while enemies gut me :)

Nice, I didn't make a search for that.
Pets are becoming more popular in ESO, so I was just trying to provide some info on how to make them better.
Many people dislike pets. But maybe new, nice, life-like pet behaviours could make it good for everyone.

It always struck me as odd to have something following you around remaining totally oblivious to any fighting going on. You get attacked by a Mudcrab, a giant lava-spewing abomination, or anything in-between and your pet just stands there like, "Yeah, I totally see this happening but I just don't have the energy to do anything so I'll sit here while you do the work".

At the very least I wish we had a few different idle options for them. Sit, stand, lay down, stuff like that. I also wish we could apply those to Sorc pets, b/c Clannfear are effing adorable when they're laying down.

Oh, and we need the ability to tell the little Guar pets to STOP EATING ALL THE DARN TIME. That eating animation is ridiculous when you're in a building, on pavement, in a cave, or anywhere else where there's literally nothing for them to graze on. And what's with the god-awful crunching noise? No pet irritates me like the Pony Guar.

Personally, I don't want my pet's model getting in the way when I'm in heavy combat.

I don't mind them having idle animations, but I don't think they should try to get involved while I'm fighting things.

    Roaches.

You should think twice about letting them lick your face....

I don't want my pets to fight (even for zero damage). Maybe they just disappear whenever your in combat? They all run away or something idk? It could also help cut down on stress for people in areas that have lots of fighting and pets are out.
That said, I DO really want them to have more options for emotes that they can do. I love the laying down idea, sit, play etc. I want pets to interact with other friend's pets too. Maybe one person's dog tries to chase my cat or maybe my panther growls at your hound or something. Little things like that help make pets much more amusing. I enjoy the pets now but there is certainly room for improvement. Having improvements like this would also encourage me to BUY more pets in the store!

Ahh, immersion. That wonderful word that has blessed us gamers with such an entitled attitude towards all gaming situations. :)

Honestly, I don't think the art team could dedicate such time for our pet requests :( They must be working hard on next expansions hopefully.

But I hope and wish that, they can do some minor touches to this pet issue.
    • maybe a small checkbox for "disable pet while fightning" such as helm visibility option.
    • "hide all pets from game" (for pet haters and for people who doesn't want to see other ppl's pets as well)
    • "run away while fightning" option for every pet (generalised)
    • "try to back up on fight" option (only visually) (generalised)

these simple on/off options and 2 extra behaviour options should solve most of the issues.

i actually like the fact that my monkey is picking his butt while we are fighting some giant monster spewing flames all over the place. i think it gives him character.
