Pets need more life

I've never been a fan of the pets in ESO, I tried to use the beta monkey for a while on one of my characters, but I gave that up after the monkeys screech became too repetitive to bear. You'll notice I didn't say "his" or "her" screech, because the pets are so shallow it's hard to ever think of them as alive.

When the crown store opened, I decided to give it another go and purchased the Dune Hound for my main character, who is a Redguard. I figured it was lore fitting to have the dune hound following a redguard around Tamriel. But, the dog seems to suffer the same lack of personality that the monkey had. It literally just stands there, dead eye'ed, waiting for me to make a move. Or it'll suddenly go missing in action, and I have to re-enable it.

I don't expect the dog to attack enemies or anything crazy like that. But come on ZOS, give it a few animations where it sits down, lays down, maybe yawns and takes a quick nap, or even chases its tail for a bit. These animations could happen when your character is idle. There's really no end to the possibilities for animations that would help bring these animals to life, at least in our minds.

Yes, most lack personality and they get lost a lot.

The Bantam Guar has plenty of personality....the wee thing does lack courage....

First of all: I like these pets. They add some "flavor" so to speak.

Second of all: I hate these pets. They cost performance (client-side, has to render even more units and server-side, still has to process whatever little AI they possess now) by just being around and doing... not much of anything. Certainly nothing even remotely useful.

Unfortunately Z did shoot in their own foot now and cant even do the smart thing anymore and disable pets altogether... because ppl have already paid real extra cash for owning even more pets and rightfully so expect them to stay around.
All hail the mighty Clown Crown Shop!
Well, let's hope they at least stay stupid... the pets I mean. Of course the pets. o:)

I'm of the mind that they should go all out.

    Each pet could have
    • Magica/Health/Stamina attributes
    • 20 Possible Levels
    • 4 Passive skills with 3 levels each
    • 4 Active skills with 4 levels each

Each level, a pet would get 1 attribute point and 1 skill point. The player would place the attribute and skill points but beyond that the player doesn't control the pet in battle.

Outside of battle the player can interact with their pet by
    • Giving the pet a treat which = buffs
    • Giving the pet a command (a pet emote)

Horses could have the same... as well as having their OWN inventory.

    But... will never happen.

What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
    That's right... Horse.

I think pets have a little more personality would be great! I would love to see my dogs chasing their tails!

As well, can the hounds run a bit faster please? I always stop to let them catch up. Wouldn't want them to get lost!

Would like to see them fight with you, as in Skyrim, instead of watching as you get your rear-end handed to you ... like no dog would ever do.

Edit: Even if the fighting was useless animation, doing no damage to enemies, I'd be fine with it.

The only pet I still allow to run with me is my Dwarven spider. The others are too popular in-game for my tastes.

They look like robots. There is so much they could do in terms of animation for dogs etc but they just follow you around like a stuffed animal.

Definitely some pet animations would be great, I wouldn't mind a few more sound effects either, breathe some life into them :)

I'd love yawns and little roarings and purrings in the cats / panther. They could eventually look at you impatiently and even sleep if you're iddle too long.

+1 to the adding life to pets through varied animations.

And now that we've gone that far, we can go even further. Let's add a variety of animations for our own characters!
Not as activable emotes, several default iddle animations would add a ton of life to our own heroes.

The Dwemer Sphere has some personality to it. At least it will roll around and then pop up and look around. It makes a bit of noise too.

So does the guar that you got from buying the plushie. He chomps food and makes some odd noises.

Yeah ESO pets are about as interesting as Rift pets, meaning they aren't. They don't do anything. They have no interesting animations or interactions.

I loathe to say it, but WoW has interesting pets. The pug barks and drags it's ass on the ground, cats play and chase things, certain rabbits will interact with another player's rabbit and make babies, there's a slime that will eat critters in the area and grow larger, a beholder that occasionally zaps critters with a ray from his eye, a skunk that I think chases cats, a sunflower that sings, etc.

Those are interesting pets, probably the most interesting pets I've seen in an MMO. I went from WoW to Rift and was utterly disappointed with Rift's pets. ESO's are pretty much the same. The monkey makes sounds, the dwarven sphere makes sounds and changes shape, but that's it.

I like the Dwemer Spider because it's the only one of my pets that I actually had to earn.

Like choosing to save a baby goat in Alik'r rather than slaughtering sacrificing them. I would love that. There of course could be something good added the other choice, like 4x XP for the quest completion or something.. so it really was a choice.
