    Err... ah....

That one solo Mod... the mini-map thing has been known to cause problems for some people recently.

Might try removing it just in case.

Is your system running an NVIDIA graphics card? If so, do you ALSO have GeForce Experience running?

If so on both accounts, shut OFF GeForce Experience while playing ESO. Not just right clicking the icon and hitting 'exit'. Go INTO your task manager and kill the process.

You'll find your ESO experience much improved.

Didn't help me, still crashed after less than a minute online...
    Worth the try, thanks anyway
This game was designed to work in windowed fullscreen mode, no doubt to suit it's casual style and frequent web browsing on monitor #2. It is more stable in windowed fullscreen.

It does consistently crash when competing for my graphics card. Specifically streaming video players cause occasional, reproducible crashes due to some unknown conflict.

Additionally, I find shadowplay suspect in ESO's case, though I have used it with success the game seems more crash prone while doing so. This could be related to my computer's "DVR" drive and file output configuration.

I have found multitasking causing crashes is common to many DirectX applications.

It is very likely something is running on your computer you aren't aware of, or some application is otherwise doing work with the hard drive causing ESO to crash.

Post your crash report, and check the status of your Task Manager. If you watch it on your desktop with no other applications open, it should ideally sit at 0% with only small (1-3%), regular ticks in activity.
While you're there, launch the game and check out your RAM. While most games in the past (and many more to come) can share a 4GB space with windows just fine; ESO is one of the first games on the market I strongly recommend 8GB as an actual minimum for - not just to fit in larger textures. My client reports 3.7/8.0 used. While you can run many games at or near capacity, many others will simply crash if they don't have enough overhead to prevent competition.

Look at your recent downloads, browsing history, and recycle bin. You or someone you know may have installed the good old silent but deadly.

Because gaming is so demanding, gaming PC's require some upkeep you could normally overlook. A basic understanding of how it works and what can potentially go wrong can help you more than any developer.

I actually made a thread myself when i collected all sorts of reports for costumer support anyway.

@dietlime perhaps you can have a look? Would be much appreciated

I had a close look at my running processes and could track them down to applications that i think are allowed to run^^
Although with running itunes, nvidia and razer stuff has quite an amount of processes running i dont think my rig should have problems doing so... but you may have a look at yourself

Use MSConfig to turn off everything (especially things you'd never expect to cause problems, such as Java Update Scheduler - or any update secheduler and iTunes, although I doubt it's iTunes) under startup, reboot your computer, and play the game without anything else running.

If it stops crashing, you can discover the culprit through trial and error.

Hate to say it, but your experience is typical as to crashes. We were talking about it in a group last night, that the strongest positive commentary about the game is that we keep coming back despite the frequent crashes. You need to try to figure out if you have the same crashes we all experience, or if you have something more unique. Probably the most common crashes right now are loading screen issues, and game freeze. Both happen more than we would like, but restarting the game returns everything to normal. I've noticed most of my game freezes happen when sprinting uphill, mostly when mounted. I rarely have loading screens that require restart.

P.S. Before anyone goes and says this game is made by Zeni Online, I do not care what alternative name they wish to go by, Bethesda is the only trade name that is worth anything. It is the name people know, respect, and expect quality products from.

For the record, the game is made by ZeniMax Online Studios, a subsidiary of ZeniMax Media, Inc., which also owns Bethesda Game Studios (developer of The Elder Scrolls games) and Bethesda Softworks (a publisher). Please at least try to not confuse them deliberately.

Also for the record, there hasn't been a single TES game game yet which hasn't had serious issues with bugs after release. Over the years, I've come to expect "can't really be used well until after the first round of patches has landed" products from Bethesda Game Studios, but I've gotten used to this and love their games regardless, playing them for far longer than is good for me.

As for the crashes, it would be most helpful to report them to ZOS while noting under which circumstances they occurred, i.e. in which location(s), during what activities, etc. You could use the in-game /bug command (no feedback), or the Tech Support Form (this will get a response). Only then will there be a chance for them getting fixed.

I tried to sen you a PM to discuss your reply but apparently I need permission to do so.... :/

I appreciate the attempt to be helpful but you come across as a little "high and mighty" with your response. Particularly,
Please at least try to not confuse them deliberately.

I found a little rude and off putting. I have seen some of your other posts while lurking and I see you are very helpful to many others or at least offer humorous view points.

Yes I know ZeniMax Media is the big poobah holding company for the Bethesda family of corporations and acquisitions. If you know your history of ZeniMax then you will know it was found BY the same guy who founded Bethesda specifically to be the holding company for Bethesda and its business acquisitions. Bethesda then spun off the development studio to split the game design company and the game publishing into two separate entities that could each focus on their core business and both owned by the new holding company. This is all immaterial. What matters for my statement is that BETHESDA is company that is famous. Not ZeniMax. So I deliberately refer to all companies under the ZeniMax label as Bethesda when discussing anything Elder Scrolls, BECAUSE I like and respect them. Much in the same way I still call AMD graphics as ATI. Some brand names are more valuable than others.

Now, the rest or your response. The game didn't crash to desktop, didn't give me an error message, it just froze 3 seperate times while I was standing in town, running the lone mod already mentioned, mainly while googling about guild traders on my 2nd monitor. I downloaded the launcher and let it run continuously a week ago when I first bought the game until it was completely finished. Since that time until today I haven't not had a single issue with the game from a systems perspective. Nor from a game play perspective. Just lots of new questions like any newbie and for those I consult the generous people of /zone.

You do have a point about all TES games taking a year to reach general stability, however I mentioned that in my opening post. It has been a year....

All 3 crashes occurred over a 1 hour span of time and then has been fine the rest of the day. No problems at all again. In all 3 cases the game simply stopped responding. Clicking anywhere in the game screen brought up a Windows notification of non-response and asked me if I wanted to 1) Wait, 2) Close, 3) Close and google for an answer. I have seen other threads about the crashes, but as I said, I figure to make another thread to just gently /poke ZOS while they work to consolize their game. At no was there a hard crash to desktop, freezing of my PC or other applications running, graphical instabilities, or automated error reports that I could use to submit information to ZOS.

Like I said at the start of my reply, I do appreciate the effort to help.

Is this your first ever MMO? Every patch has bugs that have to be patched. It's the same with every MMO. If this bothers you so much, you may want to stick to single player games.

Want To Buy the ability to Multi-Quote a thread before composing my replies instead of having to make separate replies to different people. If this reply comes across hostile, then it is because I found the above quoted to be hostile, however it is not my intention to be hostile.

No this is not my first MMO, more like this is my last ditch effort to find an MMO still worth anything in this day and age of profit motive driven game design. Particularly a high fantasy genre MMO.

I played Lineage II through open beta and its first 4 years of operation. Bugs were mostly squashed in 6 months after launch and crashes non-existent well before the first year was over. I won't speak of their poor code optimization, but they were remarkably bug free. Launch date, May 2004.

World of Warcraft: I started transitioning half and half WoW and L2, early 2006, game was about 1 year 3 months old at that point. Didn't see any crashes whatsoever until the Burning Crusade launched and most of those were do to everyone flooding the servers to try and play. Most crashes since then have usually been expansion launch related or people maliciously attacking Blizzard servers.

Guild Wars 1: I also tried this game out at its 1 year birthday and forward for a few months. No issues at all, ever.

Tera Online: I started playing this one at about the 1.5 year marker after it launched. Never saw any random crashes, and complaints of such were extremely rare on the forums.

Star Wars Galaxies was buggy as hell. About the only one that I played from launch on to about a year that had significant bugs. Shame Sony's MMO division handled that game so poorly. So much potential wasted and so much community lost by time most of it was fixed.

So based on the above experiences over the last 11 years, No I'd say most MMOs DO NOT have problems with random crashes. Most just give error reports or simply the function or feature you tried to use simply do not work. Or have unexpected outcomes.

    For Everyone Else,

Appreciate the offers to help troubleshoot. I hope today was a one off experience, especially since I haven't had any problems since. For general FYI's for those looking to gather information to aid ZOS

SYSTEM: 5 years old now minus GPU
Asus Crosshair IV Formula ROG mobo
AMD Phenom II x6 1090T BE, running stock clocks
    4 gig OCZ DDR1 ram OC'd to 1.6 GHZ
    250gig Crucial C300
    Asus Radeon R9 280x DirectCU II TOP 3gig GDDR5

    Running Windows 7 64 Pro

Auto-updates on all products disabled, notification of updates only.

Running default "Ultra High" settings, averaging 40 FPS @ 1900x1080

Background programs, mostly windows paraphernalia and Logitch setpoint software. Occasionally Steam if I play any CS:Source prior to playing ESO or not. Do not use anything apple.

If the game ever crashes again, I'll try to get more detailed info like FurTrader suggests and see if I can't contribute anything useful besides a /poke to ESO.

I'm sorry, I agree that my choice of words was poor, and I want to apologize, because I mistook your initial insistence to refer to ZOS only as Bethesda to be made from a point of deliberate ignorance, to deny them acknowledgement. With what you've written below, you've not only proven my assessment to be wrong, you've shown to possess an above average knowledge of the inner dependencies of their corporate conglomerate.

The client's behavior you've described sounds like a breakdown of meaningful communication between client and server. MMO clients are, as a rule, fickle pieces of software. For reasons of responsiveness and usability, they need to do things on their own, but everything they do eventually needs to be checked and approved by the server within certain time constraints. If this supervision temporarily breaks down for whatever reason, their behavior might become erratic. There are reliable indicators whether a disconnect has occurred, but if they don't trigger, and there's still no acknowledgement from the server, the client goes out of sync and might end up in a state of limbo. The reasons for this can originate in many places, and only a few of them are under your control.

To rule out driver or software problems, you could open a task manager window on your second monitor and watch the ESO.exe process to see whether it hangs during those freezes ("not responding").

To rule out network problems, you could determine which two IP addresses are used by the running ESO.exe process (via Resource Monitor or netstat -n -b on the command line) and ping one of them continuously via ping -t. The Network tab of Resource Monitor should also be able to tell you whether the ESO.exe process does any network I/O at all during a freeze. If you're connected via WiFi, try using a network cable to your router if possible, to see whether this changes anything.

It may not be on your end. Take note of the time, duration, and in-game location of each freeze when it occurs for a while, then send them en bloc via the Tech Support form I've linked above. CS might contact you and ask you to run some diagnostics. The more data they get to correlate, the better.

I still love ya though. :)

The PS4 API still wins over Dx 11. When will people learn that hardware alone does not win any prizes. You could have the best GPU and CPU in your rig, if you use bad drivers or a 10 years old API, then you still lose over that 5 year old console.

update ur driver lately? windows update kicked in overnight? summer is here and ur graphic card overheat?

could still be an issue with your system. this past monday there's no update to ESO.

try dropping quality to LOW with low resolution, and see if it makes any difference. if yes, then it's your PC.

lol i get loading screens all the time and this is what people come up with

my pc is a custom liquid cooled 8 core cpu, north bridge, ram 28gig, south bridge what doesn't go over 38c even if its in eyefinity view under max load, with a sapphire r9 290x graphics card with 3 gig of ram but yes its always down to the computer isn't it.

could be the internet dropping out though.

well without those info, one can only assume... you have NO IDEA how many people came here blaming the game while they're on Win XP........

now for *** n giggles, try this:
    1. turn off ur OC. u may be gettin cool chips but one or two components make it unstable enough. i remember watercooling my geforce 7900 SLI (it's been a while) and finally it's just a faulty card for SPECIFIC games only.
    2. u got onboard VGA? give it a shot.
    3. drops ur CPU OC. save it to a profile so u can easily flip it back.
    4. 8 core? X99 system? got all the latest chipset driver?

reason i keep comin back to ur system is others are playing the game fine. so it MUST be something specific with your situation. ur system ur network ur house, ur country, i dont know.

PS: wait wait wait.... 28GB of RAM? wha...........?

I got the game a week ago, and things have been moving along nicely, though I got like a trillion questions, and all of a sudden 3 crashes in an hour? I expect this sort of thing with a game in beta, not one what has been out for a year.

O did no one tell you uuum you are testing the game if you want the real version you have to join the rest of us heading to consoles in june. :D

    Eww, dirty consoles. ;)

Seriously though OP, do some hunting through the forum. Not a fun issue for sure. :(

Whaaaaaat nas your not joining i figured you would come to consoles if you do ps4 side lol.

Hell no, son. PS4 has hardware designed what...5+ years ago. No contest against the current PC I built. Why on Earth would I move from the PC (highly customizable) to the console (highly restrictive)?

I still love ya though. :)

Aaah thanks bud we will always have that summer fling i guess.
