Fishing Overhaul

Hello. I really think that the fishing system at the moment needs a complete overhaul and revamp to make it better and more meaningful. This game needs more things to do rather than just quest and kill things and fishing, as one of the only things that doesn't involve combat is just... awful.
I think that they need to add a 'Fishing' Skill line in the 'World' area of skills and make it have more progression and also tie it in to have Daily fishing quests and rewards. It should also give a decent amount of XP so combat etc ins't the ONLY way of levelling which is wrong on a game of this scale.

Skill Line Idea: Fishing this would we a skill line where you level it up by catching fish and turning in daily fishing quests. I think that it should go up to a max level of 20 in the skill lien so it fits in with things such as legerdemain.

Passives: Here are some passive Idea's I though of.

Water Surveillance: 2 Tiered Passive:
Tier 1: Allows you to see a small number of new fishing locations in lakes, rivers and oceans.
Tier 1=2: Allows you to see a medium number of new fishing locations in lakes, rivers and oceans.

Quick Reactions: 4 Tiered Passive:
Tier 1: Increases the Chance to catch Fish by 5%
Tier 2: Increases the Chance to catch Fish by 8%
Tier 3: Increases the Chance to catch Fish by 12%
Tier 4: Increases the Chance to catch Fish by 15%

Lucky Rod: 3 Tiered Passive:
Tier 1: Increases the Chance to find objects and other things with the fishing rod by 5% (Such as Gummy sack, and you could add other things as well such as the 'Legerdemain Items except not stolen.)
Tier 2: Increases the Chance to find objects and other things with the fishing rod by 10%
Tier 3: Increases the Chance to find objects and other things with the fishing rod by 15%

Professional Fish Merchant: 3 Tired Passive:
Tier 1: Increases amount you can sell ALL fish for by X
Tier 2: Increases amount you can sell ALL fish for by X
Tier 3: Increases amount you can sell ALL fish for by X

Expert Reeler: 3 Tiered Passive:
Tier 1: Gives you a 5% chance to catch two fishes at once.
Tier 2: Gives you a 10% chance to catch two fishes at once.
Tier 3: Gives you a 10% chance to catch two fishes at once and a 5% chance to catch three fishes at once.

Known Fisher: 1 Tiered Passive:
Tier 1: Allows you to take Two Daily fishing quests per Day.

In addition the Daily fishing quests should give gold, XP towards the skill line and cases of fish (These would be like the Alchemist Satchels or Enchanter's Coffers)

Please give feedback bout what you think of this and if you have any ideas on what could be improved.

Thank you for reading. :)

To be honest this game really needs alternative things to do and fishing could be a really effective one that isn't just quests, combat or dungeons. This and legerdemain could be really unique, awesome systems that make ESO stand out from other MMO's and give people other things to do.

Exactly, most people don't know or care about it and it just seems like some crappy tagged on thing for a couple of extra achievements yet it could be so much more...

You know that each person fishing in the same fishing hole increases the chance of a rare fish right?
Getting four other people (who are all insane and want the fishing achievement) and going as a group of 5 from fishing hole to fishing hole means the achievement is done in really fast. Sure there is only 15-20 fish per fishing hole, so you each only get to cast 3-4 time per hole, but we all get one rare fish each per fishing hole fishing as a group.

As long as you all have fast horses and one player knows all the fishing hole spots and spawns, its a very easy achievement to get.

To make fishing fun, just add rare loot to fishing once you have all the achievements from fishing. If you could fish up V14 marital knowledge pieces, everyone would be fishing.

I'm not talking about how hard the achievement is though?... I'm saying that the achievement is all that it adds to the game.

He means there should be more depth and attention in fishing similar to what you get in other MMORPGs. I think the OP's proposition is fitting.

I've been surprised since beta that fishing isn't more helpful. For example fishing up a purple food/drink item that could be used to make your food of choice. The system is in place and working and for me to use fishing it just needs more of a reward or skill. Another missing opportunity by zos.

Fishing is mostly pointless right now and I wish it were more of a mini game environment instead of simply: have the right bait= catch a fish 100% of the time. Add more people to spot = Increased chance at rare fish trophy. At least you can now filet them and use them for recipes but it's still super lame compared to what it could be. Decent ideas OP.

One thing to keep in mind, we have had fishing spots in TES games as long ago as Morrowind. We could never do anything with them but look at the fishing pole and wonder why we could not catch anything.

Anyway, this is the first TES game where we can fish at all for anything. So, to that end, Fishing is great.

However, it is something to do with groups of people. Especially if your on Team Speak and someone has to quaff a beverage if someone catches a green and everyone drinks if someone catches a Blue. Even without the Beverage Addon, you get the Achievement fish real fast this way. Solo it is not fun at all.

This is nothing to do with the achievements. It's simply that it could be so much more than it is at the moment and should be more in depth. The achievement doesn't matter to be but fishing does and it should be more than it is.

If I recall correctly, one of the MANY things I remember hearing ZoS saying, was that they were going to do a fishing overhaul to the game, and make it more engaging, and like how they wanted it to be at launch. They didn't have time to work out the kinks for the original fishing system, so to save time, they modified it to a much more simplistic version that had lot less bugs. Personally I really love fishing, and I would love to see it get a much more in depth overhaul even though many other players don't really care sadly... I'm sure ZoS will hold to what they wanted to do originally with fishing, but since it's not a major request or issue, it's probably far down on the list of "Things to do Eventually".

Fishing in many other games has been a very entertaining and enjoyable experience. I'd love to see an overhaul of fishing in ESO...definitely a mini-game feel to it would be amazing. I don't know so much about having a skill line for it, but I'm not against it. Would be neat to have weekly tournaments in which players can enter and compete for trophies, maybe even a small gold prize or something.

Also, why not add hunting into ESO, similar to the mod in Skyrim where NPCs give you an order to bring them so many of certain types of meat/hides. You could get gold, xp, or even nice food rewards. IDK, now that I type it, it doesn't seem as interesting... adding some little things to spice it up couldn't hurt, though.

I agree. I really wish this game was more sandbox with WAY more to do than just things that involve combat. They need stuff like horse racing or betting on actual frog races with other players rather then just a dumb quest.

Sadly my cat seems entirely unprogrammable in that respect. I had hopes of programming my R2 unit for that function, but while it has no problem with bringing me a beverage that it is already holding, it seems incapable of opening the fridge door to get a beverage in the first place. I'm starting to suspect that those Jawas sold me an R2 unit with a bad motivator.

Maybe they will overhaul fishing when they overhaul the water in general. I missed going underwater collecting treasure and pearls from clams to sell for gold. TBH, I am not surprise why fishing is very simple in this game. Past elder scrolls games did not even have fishing except Skyrim but Skyrim you fish by using your bare hands not a fishing rod, which is even simpler since you do not have to worry about bait.

other mmo's have systems with achievements where it's special events eg maybe have certain fish you can only catch at a certain in-game time, have fishing contest/quests in each zone.

I'm currently trying to get this achievement and I just want to rip my eyes out atm
