Really Wish Adornments, Etc. Were Physical Items & Other Clothing/EQ/Item Requests

Hi all,

Short and sweet: I come from a MUD background, and as such I'm used to having everything exist as a physical item; it makes everything more immersive, rewarding and challenging.

Please note that the below requests are ideal, but that I would be happy with any additions in this direction. A man can dream.

I wish the following were physical items, which must be purchased/found/looted to be equipped/utilized, and show when worn/used:
  • lanterns & torches, lantern oil, oil flasks, etc. (i.e. just equippable torches would make game so much better overall to me and people like me)
  • earrings, face jewelry, rings, amulets that show when worn, can be bought at shops, special shops just for jewelry (i.e. why are the adornments glued to my head at creation? where did they come from? why can't I sell them, and please, why does this need to be tied into barber/crown store? can't there just be jewelry shops and loot drops like with armor?)
  • the dagger my guy uses for nightblade attacks, the pickaxes we use to mine (that everyone pulls out from nowhere), the axes to chop wood, etc. (I also wish encumbered was more of a mechanic than just max items carried)
  • gold pouches, backpacks, containers, things that physically show on my person and have different max item amounts that is where I put my things (i.e. buy new belt pouch, physically equip on belt, able to carry more stuff now)
  • sheaths for weapons, axes slung on back, etc.
  • arrows and throwing knives as physical items, implemented in such a way as to make it not a PITA (perhaps they can be crafted in the wild for when you're out and about, and higher quality ones can be crafted at workstations)

The above is but a sample.

If you're of a like (or strongly enough unlike) mind, please discuss. My goal would be that developers see this and perhaps think about how these sort of changes could improve the game.

Thanks for reading.

I do agree that having visible jewelry/adornments would be amazing! I would love to be able to switch up my adornment sometimes, just for fun.

I'm not a fan of carrying a pick-axe, wood axe, etc. as I already have inventory issues and am happy my fish filleting knife if neatly stashed in my back pocket rather than taking up a slot in my backpack ;)

Overall I like your ideas and think it would definitely add to the game!

Im really digging most of these ideas as an RPer. However, I cant say I really enjoy the thought of encumberance, even as it would be more immersive, I think in 2015, weight in inventory seems to have diminished as a mechanic developers seek to add due to major inconvieniences. As for everythijg else, I think it could be cool, but in varied moderation. Maybe a toggle jewelry/bags could do. Similar to hide helmet.
@PoisonedPaint - RPers, feel free to add! I'm on NA, EST Zone. Has odd playtimes.

I for one would love them to take all the earrings and other head adornments out of the chargen, and make them an item to wear (the inventory worn screen does have two more spaces for something left and right of your helmet... they could easily switch costumes to one of those and make the current place it takes next to the amulat an "adornments" slot...
It would also give os one more thing to eventually find craftable for a jeweler, making that craft a bit more viable to implement someday...

Torches, lanterns, magic lightstones, I would love to have those. Could be worn in the costume slot and work like disguises - if combat starts, they vanish, and you can't sneak while carrying one (duh ;) )

Woodcutter axes, filleting knives or mining picks... maybe not. If costumes are on a tab, which was a neat step in the direction of gameplay ease, tools such as those won't shuw up in our inventory either. They could do it of course - add ten inventory slots, fill them with ten "everyday tools", but... eh.
Extra bags too is something they avoided to make the game smoother to play - so you don#t have to look into every subcontainer in your inventory trying to track down where you put that ring you bought extra cheap from a guild store and now finally reached the level for...

Weapon sheath visuals would be great! I'd love to see those, and it wouldn't even be that much effort to add (just make a visual of a sheathed weapon to carry on your back, and add a feature to turn everything but the sheath transparent when you draw it...)

I'd also be for having ranged weapons with ammo, adding a quiver to carry arrows for archers, and disentangling throwing knives from skills you just activate, though I doubt this will happen here, they won't completely rewrite their system for it. But I'm okay with the simpler version as well, so its no big.

    Total support.
I do not mind things how they are now but I would definitely enjoy a more immersive experience.

biggest problem I have with rendering a bunch of these elements into actual physical items, is the logistics of item management, which has never been particularly *fun* for me. I oftentimes find myself allocating blocks of time specifically to item management, just so I can clear out junk from my bags, bank and research/crafting, so I can finally send my characters out on adventures.

I get to play my characters for a session or two, and then I have to come back and spend another session clearing crap outta my bags.

And this is with the oversimplified system we currently have - make me actually have to carry a pickaxe and a pair of shears for craft-mat gathering, make me carry a torch when I go into a dark cave, and suddenly I have even more of that crap to have to manage.

Now, don't get me wrong - I would *love* a far more immersive system, but if we're going to have a manageable system, where I carry potions around on a belt, have adventuring supplies in a backpack, and so on - you'd have to ENTIRELY RETOOL THE LOOT SYSTEM FOR THE GAME.

I should no longer have to carry back 16 greatswords, 4 suits of metal armor, 16 cabbages and whatnot to make some money or store in my crafting storage. Don't get me wrong, I've long hoped for some sort of virtual loot system in which I'm only carrying my adventuring gear, and I get to *mark* all the stuff I've killed in the wilderness, and pay some enterprising group of NPC's to follow around behind me with a magic wheelbarrow, pick up all the bodies with all the bits of armor and chipped weapons and boxes of cabbages they left lying around, charge me like a 10% fee for the service, and just melt all the rest down into my generic bank account - or something similar

that way, I can have my immersion, my piles of loot, AND not spend an hour each night dumping junk outta my proverbial trunk each night. But again, that requires an ENTIRE REDESIGN of the basic system of loot in the game - economy would change, consumables would change, crafting would change...etc...etc...

so, while technically I *agree*, I can't really support turning even MORE *immersive* junk and storage issues into the game, until we just throw out the current loot system entirely and build something from a different foundation.

I'd support wagons, or mercenaries, or teams that move things for you.

I actually want less loot carrying. Let's face it, Aragorn doesn't go kill a field of Orcs and then picl through their corpses to find a better sword and new skivvies. It doesn't make much sense, but I understand Elder Scrolls is more traditional RPG in this.

The Witcher 1 handles this brilliantly. You can carry plenty of notes, quest items, alchemy ingrdients in your little belt satchel, but Geralt cannot carry more swords, axes and what not than physically fit on his person (3 extras other than his 2 swords).

    1. not much reason for them to exist in game, they would just fill up inventory. I guess for RP, but it just seems a bit much
    2. while I DO like choice and more equipment, this might be a bit much, we already have A LOT of gear types you need to get
    3. encumbrance is simply bad game design now-a-days. no one actually finds it a fun mechanic. also, why have those things as actual items, everyone would have them in their inventory, so why make them fill up inventory?
    4. same as above, encumbrance is bad game design\
    5. not as a physical item, no, but as an addition to the model, maybe
    6. again, no, encumbrance of any kind is bad game design and there is no point in requiring you to have single, key items in your inventory. WOW had arrows for their bow for a long time, not a single person liked it, as it took up inventory space and if the hunter ran out of arrows midraid, the entire raid was doomed.

you and I are very likeminded individuals @rb2001 I support all your ideas 100%. I've actually touched on a few of them myself:

    Encumbrance: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/162693/more-bags-and-encumbrance-crown-store-concepts

    Torches: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/155836/torches

Adding inventory with belts and such would completely work with my encumbrance idea. Torches and lanterns could be treated as "shields".

Jewelry really should be an equitable item. The money to be made in the crown store! Maybe someday.

    Band together! Thanks.

I like your ideas with different bags and encumbered statuses. I understand that we'd make a lot of people unhappy if we broke current functionality, so I like that your change is actually an addition for even allowing more carrying, but with these extra statuses -- choose to use if willing to accept them.

One thing I would hope that if any of these new bags are available in Crown Store, they should be available in game through regular shops and loot as well (rarity and gold cost can be a varied). This is important to me because of RP reasons (I don't like acquiring things through out of character means).

I understand that a lot of players just want to play the game, but for some others like me, the act of visiting shops buying things, equipping things, managing items (you know, making a day of it) is a huge part of the experience (even needing to eat and drink from water flasks to keep regen up, etc. makes any game better for me).

Would be great if the game goes more in "my" direction, but would be better if both play styles are still supported.

yep. On the same page. My motto with suggestions is "always add functionality, never remove."

For example, I'm working on a suggestion where we should be given the ability to craft axes, pickaxe, etc For material farming. Everyone would still have the "magic" tools but if you want to craft and carry a better pickaxe, you'll get more from each node.

I suggested this a year ago but am making a more detailed suggestion.
