Starting next week, on Thursday April 16th at 10:00AM EDT, we will be kicking off our Welcome Back Weekend. During this event, anyone who played the game during beta but did not purchase a copy of ESO will be invited to play the game for free until Monday April 20th at 10:00AM EDT.

The Welcome Back Weekend event isn’t just for people who played the beta and didn’t purchase the game, though. We’ll have activities for you, our active players, too!

• ESO Orienteering Challenge
  • Put your navigation skills to the test, and you can win your very own Bristlegut Piglet pet!
• Welcome Back Weekend Sweepstakes
  • Everyone who plays during Welcome Back Weekend – whether you currently own the game or not – will be entered into our sweepstakes to win some great prizes.
• Fan Livestream Event
  • We’ll be hosting some of our most talented and dedicated ESO livestreamers on Twitch all weekend.

We’ll have additional details on each of these events next week, and also plan to update the Crown Store with some new and exclusive items, so be sure to keep an eye on our website.

If you plan on livestreaming or running any live in-game events during our Welcome Back Weekend, let us know and we’ll be sure to promote them! We’ll need all event details by this Friday, April 10th at 12:00PM EDT.

Finally, if you’re a member of a guild, be on the lookout for any returning members or even new players that need a helping hand. Consider running a recruiting, or new-player event! And if you do, be sure to tell us about it in this thread so we can help spread the word.

Does anyone remember the Karka Event that happened with the first free-trial access week end in GW2 ? Let me sum it up for you.

New players from free trial access got unique rewards (precursor items) whereas actual players of the game -who bought it -didn't get anything.

DON'T MAKE WHAT HAPPENED IN GW2 HAPPEN IN ESO ! This is a ticking time-bomb! PLEASE CONSIDER THIS WHEN YOU MAKE THIS EVENT AND DO IT WISELY!!

As it stands we need at least one more non-vet Cyrodiil campaign.... I also fear for the queues on that weekend!

BUT

I am excited to see peoples impressions after the weekend and hopefully a few more return permanently. It has been nice to see increasing activity in the game.

Love this idea but you guys might want to look into making the game available for them to download a day or two early. Downloading the entire game client can take a while for some people. don't want them to spend the whole welcome back weekend looking at a download bar

Do an orienteering at night where players have to pick up torches at a particular location and search for bonfires along the way. The bonfires will allow the players to relight their torches and continue the search!

Only players carrying a lit torch at the site of the search objective will be eligible for the win or prize!

Why would you not have a free weekend for EVERYONE? The people who played in Beta, already played it and decided not to buy it. How many more people are there in the world that have not had the chance to play it? Not to mention, you guys should have been doing free weekends for the past year...Just doesn't make any sense to me to offer a free "Trial" to people who have already tried it....[Moderator Note: Edited per our rules on Trolling & Baiting]

This is very nice and all kinds of publicity is good. But why all this focus on a playerbase who choosen not to pay?
Nothing wrong with getting stuff for free but players do want quality, no matter their playstyle. Quality do cost money. Not sure if any mmo can do anything without a profit?

Crownstore, Events, The ¤#¤%# Console thing and new ideas been mostly focused and directed to a new player base who dont want to pay sub, for the game or anything. Sure, they are the biggest clients for a crownstore, but can't there be some new ideas for the playerbase who likes the security of subscription? Who enjoys an MMO without goldsellers/bots?

I have no idea what, but anything would be nice. 1 day you gain 10% exp and encounters are hard like they where last year!
This would do fine.....just something thats directed to us.

As a former beta player I want to chime in why I personally like this idea.

I liked the game during the beta, but as a student with limited money I just didn't love it enough to first spend a large chunk of money just to buy it, and then additionally a subscription fee every month. My general stance is to not buy any subscription games because I can't afford it.

I did however like the game enough to be willing to pay that first chunk of money to access the game as long as there are no costs after that. So I'm glad for this chance to try the game again to see if it's still worth buying

Although I do agree it would have been nice to invite others than just us former beta players to this free weekend.

Are some of you guys seriously questioning the way a huge company like zenimax does it's marketing?

They are set out on money, they know what they're doing. Obviously they are not so desperate they have to allow the entire world to play for free in order to get a few extra bucks.

Be glad they do this, please. If you got friends who want to test it, have them come over at your house to watch or give them your login info to test the game, if they are interested enough they'll buy it anyway. If not why would ZoS waste bandwidth and possible terrible reviews of people who didn't like the game in the first place.

This is an awesome event and gesture, be thankful.

Sorry, as along as Rawl'Kha exists and all DC town wayshrines are all over the map you can forget DC getting any love
