ZOS - Make it so you can't message the other faction while in Cyrodiil. (Mini Rant Included).

This is something that is common in MMO's with PvP. You usually cannot speak to your enemies, except with emotes and such. I think it's impossible to expect a high level of maturity out of entire player base. A simple fix is to make sure you cannot message the opposing faction while in Cyrodiil. I've never played an MMO which allowed the opposing faction to message and taunt players with messages (and also ruin the immersion of the experience).

There is the ignore button, which is handy. But, also I shouldn't have to ignore my chat screen with messages about how I did this or that. Or that this player did this or that. I want my chat screen reserved for people in my faction that have something to say. I don't need to hear about the opposing players, that I am fighting against on a regular basis. This gets old really really fast. It's one of negatives of PvP in ESO.

Also, a sidenote, one of the negatives of PvP in ESO is often you see groups of players on the same side fighting together. I was told by my faction to ignore blue players and to leave them alone. Then I leave a few alone, while others (blues) gank me from the side. This is a big negative for pvp in ESO. Alliances exist to create an enemy which is an enemy. An enemy which you don't talk to, an enemy which you don't communicate with. It destroys the immersion and the point of having factions to begin with.

Obviously, this part of the game that can improve. Depending on if ZOS wants to do so. That is probably unlikely at this point, it's a shame because this game does have potential. I originally decided to play this game because of the three faction PvP system. I hope there is a game (and there is) coming that has three side PvP with more traditional rules.

I, and many others, enjoy the cross faction chat without using it to trash talk or whinge to the enemy. Its awesome to be able to whisper an enemy player after a particularly good fight and show respect, or discuss builds and counters. It helps you learn and grow in skill.

Having said that, there will always be sore losers, and that is why we have an ignore function.

In fact, this function sets ESO PvP apart from every other mmo, where the enemy is just another faceless player.

Both of you bring up good points, I disagree but I see your perspective. I am just encoutering way too much negativity from players complaining or trash talking. It's ruining the talk I have with players who actually have something positive to say. I have to weed through the negative messages to find the positives. Unfortuntely, I guess that is the case when you have the system that is in place right now. As you both pointed out there are positives (a different perspective), I actually would rather have no communication with the opposing faction and not discuss anything. The immersion is what its all about for me. Not chatting to other players during combat.

If I could just toggle personal messages off, that would be a good thing. Is there a way to turn personal messages off? I didn't really think about this, sometimes MMO's have that option.

Sky, if you're getting that many hate whispers from the enemy, then take it as a compliment. You're obviously doing something right lol.

I agree that there should be an option to toggle on/off, but it might be difficult to implement.

I'm not sure but it would be nice for guys like you that just don't want to participate . I would like more open communication cross faction personally but with a opt out ability for those that don't want it .

Not being allowed to talk to the enemy faction is a fairly new invention created by companies with lazy mods that did not want to get bombarded with mails every minute by irate 10 year olds because someone called them a noob.

In SWG for example we could talk to anyone anywhere, do quests together whether rebel or imperial (or neutral) and it worked out great!

Yeah, I've encountered way too much trash talk, and just stupid talk on my personal messages for it to be positive. I would rather send a respectful message than a negative one, although in the end I prefer no communication (which is to me also a sign of respect).

Deselecting tell will prevent all whispers showing in the chat tab you disable it on, but then you won't see them from friends. You can group with your friends the go offline and tells won't get to you that way. Then you can use the group channel.

Hope ZOS leaves cross faction chat enabled. I've many friends in other factions and also chat with enemy's too.

Not everything is completely negative. But, the messages for me kill the immersion of the game. Like "wow, you scared the crap out of me with that attack", is not a trash talk message. But, I would rather not have that as part of my PvP experience. My wife also dislikes the system that is in place as well, as she has been messaged and would rather have it be more private.

I get your view Chancellor but I talk more with the enemy Faction than my own, I usually run around in a small group or by myself and we're in TS so chat is mainly used for my friends, which happen to be mostly EP or DC, and I'm AD. But the thing Angavar suggested will work, you can also just ignore anyone that whispers you in Cyrodiil, kill two birds with one stone and all that, I've gotten hate tells and vulgar language but I've also made friends that way.

Vulgar language is a interesting way to start a conversation hehe, nah all joking aside, I am glad people are making friends with the opposing faction and not hating. I am all for that.

But, personally I don't like the alliances I am seeing with blue and yellow grouping up and taking out red. I think it's silly, and I am sometimes a victim of that because of how its not really an alliance and I am still getting attacked by others who don't want to be part of this "temporary alliance" pact. Sort of creates confusion from my perspective.

I like the feature, good for a trash whisper when you win an 1vX, manage to beat a mortal enemy or just have a great fight with someone and to let them know about it. Also great for requesting a rematch/1v1!

Still, It all adds to the fun I don't take it too far like some others do normally a "better luck next time slugger" or a "that didn't go at all like you were expecting did it" (if they get the opener from stealth) or the classic one for EP "You had no idea what to do without your zerg train did you?"

I've had some horrific things whispered at me but at the end of a day it's a game so it really doesn't matter what someone X amount of kilometers thinks of me, my mother or what they want to do to my family dog and/or/during on my grave.

Gives you a little extra something to fight for if you have been trash whispered or trash whisper because it stings more when you lose. I used to play cricket and rugby back in the day trash talking and mind games are mandatory In my older age I play poker and still do it. It's all part of the fun/my game plan when I'm playing something competitively.

My perspective on the internet is that .... you're hearing the courage of the internet user. You're not getting the real response you would get in person. I don't mind trash talk in person, just on the internet it's just worthless.

I like the game. But, I prefer "real" talk. That is really not part of the internet (from my perspective). I mean sure, you get the people who really say "what they would really say in person" on the internet. Those people do exist. However, most people are not going to respond the same way.

I respond truthfully regardless of a topic. If you ask me if I think that dress makes you look fat, I'll probably stifle a laugh, smirk, and sarcastically say. "No, that dress makes you look like a runway model."

The problem with my personality is people can't decipher my sarcasm, so they think I'm being rude at times
    You twit.

I feeling the love Panda, feeling it :) Thanks for the help everyone on here. ESO does have some good people in the community. It's great to see that. I try to be one of those people as well.

That's the increased moderation at work ;)

    Indeed :)
