It probably wasn't the best strategy to patch two weeks before a general re-release. It destroys the out-of-the-box experience for new users and potential customers who are left to wonder why their four-disc set consists of one access code and one functionally unplayable game.

It's a beautiful game, but with a data approach like this, people are waiting an awfully long time to see what they paid for. I paid under $20 for my brand-new Explorers retail copy so I'm not that bothered, but I'd be butthurting all over Bangkorai if I had paid MSRP.

At least WoW implemented play-while-updating, realizing a player only uses a fraction of their overall game data at any given time. Probably their single smartest business move.

I have a feeling some people simply MUST defend ESO about SOMETHING. The bugs. The size of the game. Poor design choices. Terrible UI system. Something. See what I did there?

The people, who are still here who complain about a laundry list of things and don't move on to a game they won't complain about, boggle my mind. One or two things I understand. But everything? Boggled.

You know what boggles my mind, people who say that if someone disagree's with something in the game, they should give up on that game and stop complaining, instead of ya know, maybe sticking around and suggesting ways to improve the game while just being ignored by the company and beat on by the white knights of ESO.

Because players leaving the game is much better, rather than addressing issues the game has. That is always the best thing to happen for the game and community isn't it? ...Boggled...

"I LIKE IT AND I AM IN IGNORANT BLISS OF ANY ISSUES EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T LIKE IT SO PLZ STFU ABOUT IT AND LEAVE!" is basically your argument....

I'm glad you're trying to improve the game. I'm glad you told us. It was a bit confusing to tell from your posts.

    If I could suggest:

    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/154670/best-strategy-to-deal-with-a-large-patch#latest

I had the manifest problem in an earlier patch (which was no where near as sizable as 1.6), and the above is straight forward but I wanted to spell it out. I list a few things to do before downloading a clean copy.

    There will always be bugs.
The UI decisions were set from the start.
The classes will always be unbalanced in some regard.
The game build files will always be large.

This was known from the start by a majority of ESO's population.

There's a difference between a community helping to mold a game to the way it set out to be instead of molding it into a completely different experience. Some people don't like what ESO is compared to what they imagined ESO should be. A majority of us have at least SOMETHING that we think might need improving. But my point wasn't for them. It was for people who complain about EVERYTHING a game currently is. Persistent negative stances and intentions of forcing different visions of the game on others (who came to the game either pleasantly surprised or who knew full well of what ESO was actually going to be) are far more toxic to the game than a few disgruntled players leaving. ESO isn't for everyone.

I am not a "white knight". There are things I would like to see improved upon. But changing basic elements of the game like how they build it, implement it, the mechanisms of gameplay and what they do to promote an ES feel is essentially asking them to change ESO into something else entirely.

The bigger any patch is, the more is added to ESO.

Not sure if it's even a discussion if more "content" is better then "no content"? Isn't that obvious for everyone?

Quite a few of my friends refuse to play ESO because of the download size.
Maybe its kinda unusual right now in gaming so it natural, but if they realized what those size gigs equal, that its not actually waste of space.
And if they could fathom what that equals in playable content, they would *** themselves and then download it!

Reposting in this thread because it needs to be said again:

Zenimax seriously needs to fire whoever made the boneheaded decision to have you redownload entire core files when patching, instead of doing what literally every other MMO does and only patch the files that need updating.

with patches this big they really need to let us pre download.

Most patch is between 10 to 15 gigs in most off the mmo i have play so i dont see you problem i reminder when i play AoC we got sometime patch that close to 20 gigs and WoW each time you get close to expansion you big patch

No they are not mad because they a bad computer.

They just took one look at the 60-70gb download for ESO and said GTFO.

I don't blame them. It puts people off playing the game having such a huge initial download and then a large client size even after installation when it clears up the downloaded files.

Most games including large MMO's are way under 25-30GB...most are around 10-20GB and you don't have to download double the game size just to install it with most games, you do with ESO.

Well that is not true back in days in 2004 WoW was not that optimization that have big patch as well and i reminder when TBC come to WoW it was close 40 GB so i would not call that large MMO is under 30 GB and people get mad for 10 GB i mean maybe the should get better internet contact beside the patch wont go away if people can't play on 1st day of it release.

60 gb at about 700kb, it took me around 2 days and 1 night to get it all downloaded with small pauses in between. Just wait another 2 years when there are more zones and you can buy yourself your own ESO-only harddrive :D

As much as I love the patch, the problem here lies in the professionalism of the dev team. The only time any other MMO has a patch this large is when they're releasing an expansion. The reason behind this is because, when devs send patches to your computer, they NORMALLY only send the changed data... ESO does not; it basically sends the entire changed data FILE.

If they were to change the name of an NPC and that NPC's data was found in a 10gb file called "theNPCs.data", then you'd be downloading 10gb worth of data just for a name change.

It's generally fine to bump an old thread if you have something new and constructive to add to the discussion, particularly if the context of the discussion is important to what you're saying (which you wouldn't have with a new thread). Bumping a thread to attack something is not acceptable, and given some of the sniping that occurred in the earlier discussion, we're locking this thread.
