    ESO sucks for optimization......

Quite a few of my friends refuse to play ESO because of the download size.

Honestly, a HUGE hard drive is $50 now-a-days.

You can't have lots of awesome content in the space of a tin can.
There are plenty of other games that have really crap graphics and still have a big download.

Tell your friends to upgrade their computer.

SSDs were designed to boot from. NOT install games on.
ESO will let you install on ANY hard drive.
They have big SSD drives now, but once again - they were designed to provide a very fast boot.

Mwahaha, most silly thing I ever heard. I study and work in computer science/ networking. SSD technology was designed first for super computers and todays modern SSD's are designed for data storage, they just have faster speeds in reading and writing, which is why you see a more efficient OS and quicker boot.

No they are not mad because they a bad computer.

They just took one look at the 60-70gb download for ESO and said GTFO.

I don't blame them. It puts people off playing the game having such a huge initial download and then a large client size even after installation when it clears up the downloaded files.

Most games including large MMO's are way under 25-30GB...most are around 10-20GB and you don't have to download double the game size just to install it with most games, you do with ESO.

Why do people think these patches are big?

Because, they are? i have a 1tb disk and its really annoying this game itself gets a 10% of it, wth, i mean its ok to have new and huge content but, but, but... 65gb or even 30 is way too much.

That's 30 gigs over my 35 gig per month bandwidth limit. :(

This is going to be an expensive month.

The thing is...it's not 25GB of new content...there must be a LOT of trash files...and yes, I know how the 1.6 patchnotes look VERY impressive in length....until you realize that more than half of it are balance changes that are mostly just changing some numbers and scripts.

There's also not an insane amount of new textures and models in 1.6

So they really need to get their **** together and reduce the client size again. Other games with bigger landscapes, comparable graphics and more variation in terrain certainly don't manage to get to this ridiculous client size.

In a time where games are saved on SSDs....Zenimax really need to learn how to not force us to "accept" like 10+GB of trash files...because that is literally what that is unless they already patched in buyable content DLC for the entirety of 2K15...which I doubt.

Nnnnghhhhhh...there are people that have only SSDs in their PCs...with the average game size not being 100GB per game this would be alright...but Zenimax seems to outright refuse to optimize things in any way. At this pace we'll reach 200GB client size by 2016...without actually receiving any new actual content.

His computer or those of his friends have nothing to do with the download size ;) Most MMO´s today have background downloaders, so that players automatically download the files while playing and after maintenance they only get the last few GB.

Why ZO doesn't do this is a miracle, but we have been at this point so many times now since Beta and it doesn't seem to be of any urgency to ZO.

Yea ZOS just lost three subs from my friends today after they saw how big it is. I have already downloaded 25 GB of DATA and i'm still downloading a patch. All three just paid 69.99 for another game's beta!!! That's money ZOS lost because they're crazy enough to put in a fake patching system that doesn't even patch but re-downloads everything. It also angers me because I was really really really hoping to get my friends back into this game. Forget it, no game is worth this kind of crap in 2015. ZOS really doesn't know just how anger i am right now about chasing away my friends whom I've played MMOs with for the past 15 or so years.

Your friends must have a lot of disposal income. If I had spent $69.99 on a game, only to get home and see a sizable update and think, "Bah. I'll go play My Little Pony and the Magical Island Adventure".

I have a feeling some people simply MUST complain about SOMETHING. The patch size. Their fav toon getting nerfed. Something.

I don't know anything about the science of patching and but is it really possible to implement such method of patching onto a game like ESO despite its' size? What does it take to be able to fix a piece of the whole and having the entire world download the piece and replace the unwanted data?

It's completely possible to install/patch and download at the same time patching while they are downloading without having to download full patches first.

Plenty of game studios have done it for years now.

You should not have to free up 75+ GB of hard drive space just to install a game that is 35+ GB...it is poor design and client optimization basically and they have no excuse for it.

Forcing your customers to free up almost 80GB of hard drive space to install your product that is 35-40GB in 2015 is ridiculous.

From a technical stand point there is NO excuse for it.

That's just the issue with installing, the actual size of the game files is another issue entirely, and again no excuse for it other than poor optimization.

Could you be any more of a blind fanboy?

There's a difference between complaining about trivial things, and complaining about absolutely ridiculous patch sizes and a horrendous patching system. 25 Gigs for ONE Patch? I just downloaded another 13 gigs of patches a few weeks ago. Some people in this very thread have hit their monthly limit from downloading patches for ONE GAME.

Most people don't have state of the art internet that can download a terrabyte within an hour. Some of us have to spend an entire day just to download this game. That doesn't make someone "entitled" when they point out just how ludicrous that is.

I love ESO, I am putting up with the patch, that still doesn't mean I'm going to pretend such obvious flaws don't exist.

You know what boggles my mind, people who say that if someone disagree's with something in the game, they should give up on that game and stop complaining, instead of ya know, maybe sticking around and suggesting ways to improve the game while just being ignored by the company and beat on by the white knights of ESO.

Because players leaving the game is much better, rather than addressing issues the game has. That is always the best thing to happen for the game and community isn't it? ...Boggled...

Yeah, at 178 KB/s I'll be lucky if I get to log in by the weekend. WTF devs. They need to figure out how to patch changes only, not deploy an entirely new client with every update.
