Question About Those Killable NPCs - Can They be Hit By Accident, like if I Accidently AoE in Town?

redwoodtreesprite2
It's pretty creepy, seeing almost all the NPCs with those white aura's around them. Immersive breaking for me, but hey, after a couple months I won't be subbing anymore, and free is free. (Would keep subbing after that, but really hate the in-your-face way the Justice System is being done.)

Anyway, I am a bit nervous now. If I accidently hit an aoe skill in town, will I hit NPCs with it?

They can. There is a option in the Gameplay Settings to turn off attacking npcs though which will prevent it.

Phew! It would be nice if I could also choose to turn off those aweful white auras around almost everyone as well... Does the setting also take those off?

As far as I know do you only hit them with aoe after you attacked them with a single target ability or weapon attack (just like the animals with 1 health, e. g. rats). So you don't have to worry about AOEs but should pay attention while running around and spamming light or heavy attacks. Same for heals: if you actively heal someone who gets attacked by the guards they will also attack you for supporting him.

As someone mentioned above you can turn off that you target NPCs in the options, but you still have to pay attention when you spam heals in a town!
