Critical Surge Fix

(I posted this awhile ago. Reposting it)

Remove the heal entirely.

And make Dark Exchange instant cast. Making this skill instant cast (go ahead and balance the conversion rate accordingly) would give it tremendous potential.

Base Form: sacrifice X% of Stamina and gain X% Health and Magicka.

Morph 1: Improve conversion rate.

Morph 2: improve conversion rate. Now sacrifice X% of Magicka and gain X% of Health and Stamina. (YOU DID THIS. GREAT JOB).

The problem with Critical Surge is that it's broken with the 1-second cooldown, and it's broken without the cooldown but without AoE caps. Shoehorning a heal into this skill now just isn't going to be balanced one way or the other.

However, Sorc already has the groundwork for an effective self heal in Dark Exchange. The problem is that it's a channel. Remove the channel on Dark Exchange and the Sorc class becomes much better while retaining balance.

Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

    I agree with you line of thinking in principle.
    But: I'm not sure wheter Surge without the heal is actually worth it...
    For a magicka based Sorc, the weaponpower buff is worthless, only the spellpower buff is relevant.
    The skill Entropy from the mages guild gives the exact same spellpower buff + damage + heal + magicka regen + max magica + more damage on the follow up skill.... (and I believe entropy is also cheaper to cast)

    so... why have surge at all??

    True. It should be buffed. But that's a different discussion.

    Agreed, Entropy>Crit Surge or Power Surge for casters. Crit Surge is still good for stamina builds NOT using dots or lots of small hits. If you are stamina build and only taking big damage shots then this skill is for you.

    So everyone of us Sorc Casters.... Give up on Crit Surge it's dead to all but stamina builds, Entropy is now bread and butter.

    and as you said, also stamina builds will only have "good times" when they use wrecking blow, executioneer and snipe, but stay the hell away from carve, twin slashes, flurry or posion injection....

    I guess it could work for a hybrid build but they have to be careful that they use big hit non-DoT class skills too. But going hybrid you lose out in damage per hit due to split stats, which means the HPS also diminishes.

    Have always supported the idea of giving Sorcerer better healing options outside of Critical Surge, rather than forcing all Sorcerers into crit builds.
