Oh sorry Korah! I completely forgot to even check if there were any posts about it x.x my bad

that's what I am afraid of, each of my mounts have different stats, and each serve a different purpose... otherwise why would I pay so much for a mount just because it has the same stats but different appearance.

Personally I bought one of the horses (Draft Horse) not because the looks, but the stats were better on him for what I needed then the others. If what I was led to believe it true, now he will have the same stats as the others, and also not be visually appealing to me.

Oh its fine. Im not really worried about whether my thread gets hit or not. Its more that Im acknowledging I saw this too and its got me a bit concerned.

We’re aware that many players are attached to their mounts, and that some players use different mounts for different tasks. Rest assured that you will not have to “lose” any mount statistics or visuals. Instead, when the system changes, we will look at all of your mounts, and apply the highest number of speed, stamina, and carrying capacity increases we find; these will become your riding skill. Further, your maximum for each will be as high as the highest achievable now. And of course, each kind of mount you currently own will be available for use via the Collections menu.

An example: Say you have two horses right now. The first, you’ve fed Apples (speed) ten times, and Oats (carrying capacity) twenty times. The second, you’ve fed Apples twenty times, and Hay ten times. When the new system arrives, your riding skill will have 20 speed increases, 20 carrying capacity increases, and 10 stamina increases. This will apply to you, regardless of whatever mount you choose to ride. You’ll also have plenty of room to grow in each category, as you can keep increasing each until you reach each stat’s maximum.

And a second example, for the player who has everything: Say you had a speed horse, a stamina horse, and a carrying horse, and you had improved their best stats to their utmost – the speed horse has eaten nothing but apples, the stamina horse nothing but hay, and the carrying horse nothing but oats. When the new system arrives, and you hop on your mount, you will be riding as fast as you would have on your speed horse, with as much stamina as you would’ve had on your stamina horse, and have as much additional inventory as you would’ve on your carrying horse. This is true regardless of the mount you choose – including the Palomino or Imperial horses.

In short, we feel this is a boon to players of all levels and riding experience. From now on, every horse you ride will be as good, if not better, than the horses you’ve rode until now – and you can choose your mount’s visuals without worrying that it might not be the ‘right’ mount for the job.
It's ludicrous to have a carthorse (max capacity) run as fast as a race horse (max speed).

I suspect it will work like this:

The horse's personal stats will stay the same (light horse extra speed etc.) and your personal riding skill will be added ontop of that. So if you switch your mount it would be adjusted.

EDIT: The dumbing down of B2P/F2P is already kicking in.. no more choices to make.

Will we still be able to upgrade our horses/riding skill to reach the maximums after the update? Or are we stuck with w/e we have at the time of the change?

To answer a few more questions:

    1. “What happens to my mount’s base stats?”

The base stats of your mounts are accounted for when we do the changeover. For instance, take two horses: One is an Imperial horse you've fed 50 Apples to, and the other is a Light Horse (which is the fastest horse in the game), also fed 50 Apples. When the changeover happens, that character will have a full 60 in their riding skill’s Speed category – we’ll have evaluated that character’s mounts, and applied the highest stats they had in each category.

As a second example, take a similar character. He’s got an Imperial Horse that's been fed 50 Apples, and a Light Horse that has only had 10 Apples. When the changeover happens, that character will have 50 points in their riding skill’s Speed category – again, the highest amount of Speed they had in all of their mounts.

In short, those choices you made before, both in choosing a more expensive and skilled mount, and in how you fed them, are taken into account for the conversion.

    2. “What happens to the mount’s stat-based appearance?”

When your riding skill gets high enough in each of the three categories – speed, stamina, and carrying capacity – then ALL mounts that character rides henceforth will reflect this, with the appropriate accoutrements. If you’ve increased your riding skill’s carrying capacity enough, then every mount you ride will have saddlebags. This does mean that a fully maximized rider will have barding, armor, and saddlebags, on all of their mounts.

At the moment, our team is working on bugs and improvements with this system. For instance, we have a known issue that a mount with all three stats “past the mark” will only display two of the accoutrements, rather than all three. We’re also considering various ways to allow a player to control which accoutrements their mount has, but we have nothing finalized at this time. Neither the options nor the known issue will be “in” in time for PTS, but we’ll be sure to say when they’re implemented.

    3. “What if I have lots of mounts? What if I spread the stats around on them all?”

You’ll still have access to all the visuals of those mounts via the Collections menu. If even one of your characters owns a Light Horse, for instance, then all of your characters can choose to apply that visual to their mount at any time.

As stated before, though, only the maximum of each of the three stats, from all of a character’s mounts, will be brought over to your new riding skill. When the changeover happens, each character’s riding skill is determined independently, based only on the stats of that particular character’s mounts.

    4. “Can I still upgrade my riding skill after Update 6?”

Of course! The procedure is very similar to the current system: Just go to a Stablemaster, and you can increase one of the three categories – speed, stamina, or carrying capacity – by one, once per day, for a small gold fee. The only difference is that now, rather than the Stablemaster feeding your mount, they’re training your character!

@Rescorla_ESO‌ very true, they stated (on the twitch stream) those mounts wont have any skills stronger then what is currently available in the shop

Hmmm wish I didn't divide my skills up so much, such as placing bags on the fast horse, speeding up the armored/pack horse lol. Now I might have to rebuy them to get the full benefit x.x

So... if they're for looks only (reskinning existing horses), is it even possible to buy a cash-shop horse if you don't own a regular first first? Or will you just end up with a really terrible mount that looks cool?

    Who wanted this system?

In my mind, it feels like a unique and fun riding system is replaced with generalsed version where every mount has same statistics....

Yes, we will not have separate mounts withj different sets of stats... Instead we will have 1 set of skills and just a number of different skins to use.

since i do not remember anybody wanting this, i assume this has something to do with upcoming crown store ***...

Instead of sacrificing the nice system for horses in cash shop, they could just sell mounts that are equal to imperial horse, mounts that we still need to upgrade.

This actually made me more angry than the late announcement of free to play. Why do they want to *** me off?

    Interesting.

It seems if I buy a cheap horse now and go all in stamina, I should only need 15 days training come change over to be maxed.
    Light Horse
    Speed: 44
    Stamina: 5

    Pack Horse:
    Carry Weight: 49

    Cheap Horse (just purchased 17k)
    Stamina: 49

I should save a large sum of money with purchasing the cheaper horse for 17k, then spending 15days of training (5 speed, 10 stamina) rather than the 47k to save those ten days of 250 gp.

@Miszou‌ that on I have no clue about, not sure if it's a reskin or a mount all of its own, however since the change to riding skill instead of mount skill it's based more on your character skill rather then your mounts skill. At least, that's what I'm lead to believe.

@Tapio75‌ I agree, I like the old system more, though this one avoids any P2W aspect from putting base stats on mounts from the cash shop, that's the only plus side I see.

@Ysne58‌ the base stat of the horse plus 50 from feeding it (based off the current system) after the switch I dunno.

@Turelus that's actually a great idea... here I was debating buying the expensive horses all over again hahaha

@Elridge it works even better if you have the Imperial or Store purchased horses, I only got the 17k ones as it's the only one I was missing and I want it for the look/collection.

Sadly I do own a Stamina horse but went 29 Speed, 20 Stamina. :(

Soo.. what is rider max? The Imp horse maxed at 50, but, as your examples show, the rider actually maxed at 60.

And.. how will pricing work? Imp Edition still gets Imp horse skin for 1g and the others are 42k? Or will Imp Edition buyers loose that benefit?

I wouldn't count on what they say, based off what they say and what they acetyl do, ! pro tip lets make a ridding skill for all mounts so they game doesn't have to keep track of each one , I wonder why they would do this.

    its easier to track 1 skill with x y rather then 8 horses with x y ,

also since one horse can do it all you don't relay need more then one do you > ! unless you wanted to but a special mount off the store., hey they we could offer 1 mount only that the npcs sell. instead of 4 or 5 what ever it is, but we could put the old ones on the store you know what ! that's a great idea ! then they could pay for something they all rdy have had !

Variety will come with your choice of mount to use. So everyone will not, in theory, look the same but will functionally be the same. This is solely a QoL change.

My guess would be because no one uses anything but.

    Light Horse - Full Speed
    Pack Horse - Full Bags

With the introduction of various new mounts they're going to want people to buy those mounts. Most players don't use unoptimised mounts and they can't sell the improved or even better mounts in the store without everyone screaming pay to win.

Thus this seems like the most logical step to give players cosmetic choice while retaining the upgrade abilities.
Might have been better to say you buy one point each day and assign it where you want to a max of 70 points however, thus keeping the difference in stats we have now whilst letting players choose the look, resets available for a small cost.
Downside of that is people are paying more than they would now as they're not able to simply switch horse.

Last option would be to nerf/boost all mounts to have base stats and then each one is upgraded from there. This would be hard with their collections widow each mount will now be stored in however.

That's fair, but wouldn't it make sense to then rebalance the stats?

I use a light horse with all of his points into speed, except for 20 into stamina and 4 into capacity. The result is that my horse is slightly slower, but more durable if I get ambushed in Cyrodiil. Has caught a lot of people off-guard and works well for me.

Now these kind of interesting trade-offs are not going to be there anymore.
