Upside to the Tamriel Unlimited announcment?

I am not attacking or defending the decision. I will look at it more closely as time goes on. But right now, most threads point to negative trends in other MMORPGs that have gone this route. So, just really curious, is anyone anticipating an upside to the announced changes?

Off the top of my head, I came up with:
  • AvA Campaigns will be filled for a time with daily "new player" AP buffets.
  • No more flood of "ESO is going F2P/B2P" rumour threads.
Anyone else able to add to the list?

Yes but the P2W rumors will simply take the place of the B2P ones.
    Invictus
Kilandros - Dragonknight / Grand Overlord
Deimos - Templar / Grand Warlord
    Sias - Sorcerer / Prefect
Short answer is DKs likely won't be seeing a ton of changes before we go live; this class is still quite powerful (as it should be being a tank), even after some of the adjustments we've made to other classes and abilities.

DK IS NOT JUST A TANK CLASS. #PLAYTHEWAYYOUWANT

Although the addition of the shop could be seen as a detriment (even though it will only be aesthetic in nature), I think the restriction of crowns and items bought with them NOT being trade-able or sell-able is big positive.

I think (at least in my limited shop experience with swtor) the major issue with the cash shops is more [my] self-control than anything. Nothing in there will help me play better, but 'oooooo look a shiny in the shop' lol. I admit I bought a few Cartel Hypercrates (it was so fun opening 25 packs lol), but overall that was an issue with my self-control not EA's model. If that makes sense?

That should be answered when the links showing Crown Shop inventory appear . P2W would only be an issue if items that give player an advantage are for sale, like unique high level armor and weapons.

Positives: More mounts and pets and costumes available in the crown shop? Many people have asked for one or more of these over the past year.

It seems to me there are many more potential negatives than positives but we can add those to the positive column.

More people. That's about it. Except this upside comes with a downside too, an obvious one. But there's a thread on Bethesda forum full of people ready to try ESO now that it doesn't require a sub, so that's nice.

More "fun" items, maybe? They're already talking about new mounts, pets and costumes, we can expect a flood of that kind of thing. Whether you're willing to pay for it or not, it still counts as new content.

Reminds of a little of GW2. Gems instead of crowns. The GW2 gem shop seems to work well, game is 29 months old with a strong player base. You never know, could be the 'shot in the arm' this game needs.

You mean like potions and soul gems? ugh and that's just the beginning.

Self control obviously plays it part.

To be more specific what bothers me about cash shops is that the price is often just ridiculous and more often than not there is no way for a person who simply plays the game to get these items without forking over the cash.

I could embrace this model if these issues specifically were addressed and favored the players. But they don't, they favor the developer. I paid ~$240 to play this game over the last year. To remain competitive in most current games with cash shops you could see that cost in 3 months or run the risk of being a second class player.

As I said above they said there will be potions and soul gems and I can say with confidence that's just the beginning. They're a business and all these game developers know the B2W model lures in compulsive spenders.

Participation is the upside. That is the entire point to b2p ... more players.

I have yet to have a single real life friend play this game. The cost of the game and sub is considered a commitment most will not accept especially if already in a sub with another game.

ZO has done there due diligence thus far by ensuring p2w is limited or non-existent (some thing +10% bonuses for sub is p2w which is laughable compared to true p2w) and that the community isn't impacted much by gating content. The sub option keeps the interest of those who hate ever having to use the cash shop for content (typically sub users still use cash shops for cosmetics).

Every measure to keep the model fair as possible but the primary reason for this change is for ease of participation. F2p of any kind is reliant upon maximizing player participation because only a small percentage are willing to spend much in a cash shop. More players = greater cash shop earnings. The sub as mentioned targets those players who want the peace of mind of limited interaction with cash shops. The reason for the transition is outside of the details of the model change.

They've already said the pots will not be as good as crafted tri-pots (I'm thinking they will be like the cheap ones you can buy from a vendor now) and the soul gems are fairly easy to come buy now. I can't see them actually including anything in the shop that enhances someone (who can pay) over someone else (who can't pay), unless you mean aesthetically.I do agree with the impulsive spender hook, but I think that is primarily the collectors/designers/visual people out there who succumb to the shop.

It was also my experience in swtor that the allotment of coins given to a subber was too low to get some things, and that certainly led to buying useless junk lol.

True, they are a business and have a fiduciary responsibility to the shareholders to make as much money as possible, however I think they can achieve that with a 'shiny' cash shop and not have to resort to 'buy to win' and I think swtor is a testament to that.

The biggest upside will be more content. The more content they push the more money they make. Regular High Quality content will have a direct correlation with higher profit. Hopefully they will push large high quality content updates rather than nickel and diming us with a bunch of small ones.

The Cash Shop will offer a lag free experience in Cyrodiil!!! For just 200 crowns per day you can experience a much lower latency and lag free experience.

For 500 Crowns you can purchase a lag bomb (consists of a herd of healing spring spamming deer) to bring those incoming zergs down.

Terms and conditions apply. Quotas of a maximum of 2 purchases per day apply to EP Alliance members on NA Thornbalde. No quotas on AD & DC Alliances.
