But why not size like this?

Because Hoplon/Aspis was made for use in phalanx formation, its ment to cover most of your body, from neck to knees ... and part of your buddy on the left as well.

Its damn heavy piece of bronze and its not ment for single combat. Greeks invented the argive grip to give it more flexibility, but still not as good for single encounter as classic medieval shields (and those pretty much match the size in ESO)

    Now back to OP ...

    This is about right dude.

Viking shields were on average about 90 cm (~3 feet) in diameter and were used in single combat just as well as in the shieldwall... The round shields in ESO seem a bit on the small side, compared to that...

So far I have only found 1 2H axe that looks cool enough to equip my Orc with; unfortunately, it only comes in level 50. :\ Titanborn Axe looks awesome... too bad its only lvl 50.

Not quite sure why you can't grasp what I want to get across here.

I don't want giant Japanese Anime proportions. I don't want purely realistic proportions in my entirely fantasy video game.

I want stylized realism for my semi realistic fantasy game. I want my weapons to feel like weapons and not some silly stick while a guy with a literal stick is shooting meteors at people for *** and giggles.
Bobbity Boop, this game might become poop, but I'll still play because I'm just a pile of goop!

All I see is "I want" in that post. Well you cant have it, sorry. Its an Elder Scrolls game, not Your Entirely Fantasy Generic video game.

I guess you will just have to live with it. There is substantial community that loves the Elder Scrolls for what they are, ZOS knows that

That being said, after I saw the concept of "High Level PvP gear" from Quakecon video, I guess you might eventually see it happen and get your generic fantasy game fix

But if the weapons are more brutal looking, they won't match your ideal of realism, thus you just defeated your own logic >_>

Seriously, realism is one thing, but if that were the case, why are there animal-folk, giant spiders, undead, werewolves, magic, and other fantasy stuff in general?

I appreciate the art design reigning itself in, that I LOVE, but that doesn't mean all things fun get to be cut out. Some stuff of fantasy should remain, in this case maces and axes being made to be more impressive looking instead of a dinky paperweight.

Not Final Fantasy/Inuyasha/WoW big, but you know, large enough that it's believable that it swings as slow as it does.

This actually brings up a bit of a point I have. The lumbering way in which people fight in fantasy games is often so ungraceful, or conversely so impossible. I'd say generally I'd err on the side of impossible (swing the incredulously huge two hander too fast) than the lumbering oaf style. The thing is, I actually like the look of weapons in their true proportions. Realistically speaking, the Imperial Sword for instance while not an ugly sword in game, is still built excessively weighty to be realistic. It has the general style of a gladius or roman longsword, but its just made fatter and thicker, in large part because of the aesthetics people have grown accustomed to from videogames and movies.

One of my favorite maces in real life is the flanged mace. It has an intelligent design, a graceful elegance, and yet its clearly quite capable of braining someone as it is intended. I guess I'm just saying I really don't want to see our gear grow more and more ridiculous a la the WoW / Everquest mentality. The unrealistic styles of those games were always a huge reason why I was never interested in them. If anything, I'd like to see well balanced pole weapons being used with the speed and agility that real weapons would have been used. A good example of this that most people are familiar with would be the way shaolin and many kungfu weapon experts wield a spear or polearm. They wield it with grace and speed. The reality is, their European counterparts, Indian counterparts, African counterparts, and any other counterparts were also graceful and skilled with these weapons. This is actually one of my biggest peeves with the lumbering manner in which our characters swing weapons in the game (and this includes Dual Wield). Magic is just so elegant and so effective in the game whereas weapon users look entirely so klutzy and unbalanced.

While I feel like I'm arguing with a brick wall minority, i will give you all the fact that I too feel that weapon use feels very clunky and slow, especially when compared with magic.

My own impressions in this case:

    1 - two-handed weapons seem just about spot-on size-wise
2 - one-handed maces and axes also seem just about spot-on, axes are perhaps slightly small
3 - one-handed swords seem way too short, should be at least 50% longer
4 - Shields, especially round ones, seem way too small - again should be at least 50% bigger, if not even twice as big.
5 - light armours and medium armours seem fine scale- and proportion-wise, but heavy armours just look weird - pauldrons especially look way too big on most of them except perhaps the Breton ones... Also the 'knee' parts of the boots, and the tassels of the cuirasses just look plain wrong.

i dont understand why people say greatswords are to big, did you even saw a greatsword from medieval times? also i think depends the size of your body cause if you are woodelf even normal swords may look as 2h cause you are small, but if you are nord then big weps arent that big at all... so compared to normal size greatswords are decent ok, personaly i would want them bigger, at least the dark elf style weps i like them bigger

Also, these weapons weren't carried strapped to Your back like they are in virtually all fantasy games (for one, it'd be pretty much impossible to Draw a sword from Your back) but rather carried slung over the shoulder, pretty much how soldiers nowadays carry their rifles on parades (or at least did before "rifles" became the size of SMGs...)

It is humorous to see our characters magically plant their stave to their back and start running. I think its done for convenience though, so its not too big an issue with me. Most games do it though, and it is really comical.

Agreed...surely the personal serf should carry such things whilst one runs.

I'v made this same complain in beta. the two handed axes and maces look like large one handed weapons.

Even some shields, even though i can see there are some differences like a buckler is smaller than a round shield, but even the bigger shields like the tower Shields, thats supposed to be at the very least half the size of your body are much too small.

The two handed swords are fine.

but the two handed Axes and maces/mauls look quite small. They arent scaled very well.

People should use the /feedback ingame for this.
