Taunt Issues since 1.5

There's been a lot of people complaining about taunt being broken since 1.5 and no official response or acknowledgment of the issue by Zenimax.

We need to know if this is an intended change or if it's an issue which is going to be fixed.

Thanks.

Is it really this hard to comment on this ZOS? Is it because you don't know or you're not telling?

I mean it's not that hard, there are 4 possible answers:
    - We [snip]ed up, sorry, gonna try to fix it asap, might not be for 1.5.3.
    - Changes are as intended, there is a new mechanic to taunting.
    - We are still looking into this issue but we didnt change anything.
    - We are still looking into this issue, we did changes but it seems there are some issues with them.

All the answers are acceptable and won't cause a riot, bugs are normal. We just want to know what's up and silence on such a potential gamebreaking issue is unacceptable...

I would also like to hear about this as well. I feel taunts have been very unreliable since 1.5.

@zos_ginabruno is there any word to this? Taunt is a VERY important ability and without it we're talking about having no need for tanks. Currently bosses hit incredibly hard off basic attacks and not having a taunt means dead DPS in a lot of cases.

There are plenty of streams that are tanks hosting the stream where this issue can be seen and you guys have said that you do watch user streams. Are you just not seeing this? Do you guys not care?

What's the deal? Tanks NEED to know something...

Half the issue is people don't know how taunt works, so they don't know if its working correctly or not. Those who use add-ons taunt timers can clearly see a change, so are reporting this. Others may not notice.

The way it used to work (I could have this wrong, I have not tanked in a while)
    (1) It last 15 seconds, then it goes back to who ever is on the top if its hate list
    (2) Using the same taunt multi times within the 15 seconds do not stack (but do refresh the first taunt timer, but this appears broken now)
    (3) After three taunts, the target is immune to that taunt for 10 seconds (but you can use a different taunt)
    (4) There are only two different taunts in the game, the rest is controlled by 'hate list'.
    (5) When you apply a taunt it can fail, but if its successful, you see an icon over the NPC's head. The NPC should now only attack the player who applied the taunt (unless the NPC has a special move that changes target)

Some add-ons give you taunt timers, so you can see clearly when taunt breaks early. (the icon over the NPC's head is gone but your timer is still counting down)
Sometimes this is a boss mechanic (where it random picks someone) others its show taunt is broken or its changed.

So those who use a taunt timer add-on, and see the taunt symbol over the NPC, they are the ones reporting the changes as they can clearly see the NPC break taunt early.

Most of the testing i have seen, Taunt no longer refreshes itself it you cast it again within the 15 seconds. So if you taunt, then 12 seconds later cast another taunt, instead of lasting 15 seconds, its only lasts 3.

The work around is to cast taunt exactly 15 seconds after you did the first taunt, but if you got lag or not using a taunt timer, a dps could be one shotted in between

This seems to be the case indeed, very god recap of the situation. I was told today to reapply taunt every ~14s and that it worked fine that way since indeed, buffs are not being replayed.

To this I would also add that the reason not that many are complaining about this is because of the fact that "real" tanking begins on late end game content and up until now was virtually unnecessary in most VR dungeons.

This is not necessarily a bad change in my opinion but I think casual players (who aren't very happy lately) will be the most affected by this change in a bad way since many don't track buff timers.

In any case, I think clear communication on the taunt mechanic is a bare minimum if you don't want the player's experience to be negatively affected by it. @ZOS_GinaBruno‌
