Started today at about noon CST. It got up to 67% when I left the house around 3:30. Came back and there was a message about maintenance on the NA Megaserver. Cleared the message and it sat at 67% for an hour so I closed the launcher and restarted it. It went pretty quickly up to 27% and then started crawling from there. It has been going now for six hours and I am at 32%. I have FIOS and my internet speed is 70Mbps.

I will NEVER understand why these updates cannot be made available through a faster method...bittorrent and newsgroups spring to mind. You have to have an account to play, so there is no incentive to pirate the software.

If that's not practical, then how about setting up mirror sites? I mean, it sounds like they have tens of thousands of users all hitting one server on one day. Since you can't add more days, you can only add more servers, right? I have one here at my house you can use. I imagine most all of your users have some bandwidth and storage to spare. If only someone came up with some futuristic software that allowed us all to use each other's resources to share these files...I know...we'll call it "file sharing!"

In this day and age, download speeds this slow are inexcusable. What's worse is the idiotic replies you get when you ask them why this is the case. Stuff like "reboot your router...open these ports" etc. ANYTHING other than telling the truth: " We do not care about our customers, we have no problem wasting their time and money, and regardless of the numerous methods by which this nonsense could be easily eliminated, we choose to do the same lame thing over and over and over that has resulted (and will probably continue to result) in frustration for our customers and the overall appearance that we here at ZOS are either ignorant, uncaring, or both. We are proud to follow in the footsteps of the music, sports, and drug industries by taking an awesome thing and making it horrible. We know you wanted another Elder Scrolls game, but we thought it would be better for you to have this, even though we have no idea what we are doing and are basically still tweaking the beta seven months after release. But you better keep your complaints to yourself...any griping and we'll do the same thing to the Fallout series. Have a great day! Sincerely, ZOS!"

PS I am a huge fan of this game but for all they do right, they continue to do some really important stuff wrong, and maybe they should take the facial expression guys and put them to work making sure my Obsidian Shard actually fires when I hit the "1" key.

Seems like it would be beneficial if they could begin preloading patch data during the week preceding a patch like Blizzard does with background downloading. Then perhaps you don't have to download a full patch on patch day. May also be beneficial to host an official torrent or newsgroup post of the FULL client or maybe an executable patch file. I don't know if that's possible, but who knows.

Don't worry, @demonlkojipub19_ESO. Your launcher is just an overachiever that wants to make sure the latest update is really downloaded. Shouldn't be much longer! :D

While I appreciate the humor, these patch sizes are patently absurd.

It took very little time for me since I got to download it early, but, really...

new maps, textures, music and voiceover take space. They also replaced 3 more delves with larger versions.

    How long did it take?

Been going 40+ minutes and still at 2%

Internet isn't too bad, so this can't be normal can it?

I have 60mbps, and my downloads were up to 7.5+ when it drops below 4mbps I just click pause and resume (this causes it to go back up), Im pretty sure it only took around 20 minutes for me. So it certainly is your internet, I also make sure no other device is running windows or streaming, this will drop it.

this is what it's looked like most of the day:
    0NRODLv.png
If my download is feeling particularly generous it will go up to a whopping 60kb/s...that's about it.

KB lol just make sure to pause and restart, for some reason ESO downloads ALWAYS drop after several minutes, not sure why but if you leave it unattended, it will go super slow.

Yes, I noticed. I will pause and resume whenever I notice it dropping. as of about an hour ago my kb/s have been pretty consistently above 100, which even though not ideal, is blazingly faster than 30kb/s so I'm fine with it.even got up into the 700s once, lol. just hope it stays that way.

Why does it take so long? My download speed is 100 and upload is 50-60 with 9 ping. All other games' downloads and patches go lightning fast, no matter how big. Why is this one different? I can't get over 500kb/s

Bleh. I was excited, as I got done with work a little earlier then expected today, and I thought, great! More time to check out the changes in ESO! I thought I left the launcher open before I left like I always do, but I guess not. Ah well, thought I (naively having never sat and waited for a patch download for ESO), I have fast internet, it should only take what, 30 minutes at most?

Now, 4 hours later, I'm just hoping I'll be able to log in before bed to research traits and feed the horse on my alt.

Pro-tip: Leave your launcher open overnight (or after you log off in the early morning hours) so that when the update is ready it starts downloading automagically. By the time I got up for work and showered, it was all ready to go. (I start work at 11 am central since I'm a lazy college prof)

Of course I logged on briefly before heading out.
At least you haven't gone passed 100%

You know those skeletons you see littering various dungeons, delves and the general environment?

Those were once players. They died and rotted away waiting for ESO updates to download and install.

I I would agree. Breaking up the downloads to more manageable packets would be much better. They get loaded but not activated until the the final patch installation.

Can someone explain how this works. I am not familiar with the details behind the patches so maybe I am misunderstanding. If anything else that is 4 gigs takes a few minutes to download, what is it about an ESO patch of the same size, that takes hours? Are there other factors involved?

Ok, wierd. Downloaded a 5 gig file, took about 40 min. Then it took over an hour to apply the patch, now its creating a new 6 gig download? So total download is 11 gigs?
As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

    JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY
Has anyone tried to transfer any pts files over so the download manager will see the majority content and download the remainder? If this works you may only need a 10 minute download on update morning.

    Filepath: system(c:)> Program Files> Zenimax online > ESO PTS > zo_en
Take that folder and overwrite the ESO > vo_en
(or maybe depot folder) I am not sure

and the client folder as well

good news...I am no longer stuck at 9%. I'm now at 19%. And my kb/s rate has gone from 30 to 600-900+ kb/s, even sometimes getting up to 1.5mb/s. so maybe it's getting better. I have also realized that downloading later at night as opposed to mid-day helps with the speed greatly. Probably because less people are jamming up the server. hope this is helpful

Well, its too late now, it already finished downloading and just now finished patching, seems like the 6 gig patch only took less than 10 min to apply, even though the first 5 gig patch took over 70 min to apply for some reason.

Anyway, just started the game up on my mac and.....
It started up just fine, although it does seem darker than usual? Some sort of resolution reset or something on my end.

Thank you :) And I'd love to, but although I've done many videos, in this case I wouldn't know how (f.e. machinima required to get the Adoring Fan's face punched, etc^^). Also the voices, I actually can do many voices (especially some from Skyrim), but since I'm female, I cannot do the announcer's voice or the guy with the shaking fist. I could ask a friend for that, but altogether it would take too long to finish it, I think :)
