    Nope.

    Absolutely do not agree.

    Reasons?

Military and illness to self or loved ones are some major reasons I can think of right off the bat.

Yes (maybe) eventually under the right circumstances names should be freed up, (like after a few years and said character is level 5 or under) but we are no where near that yet.

And I'm sorry the name you really wanted has been taken, I really am. We have all gone through this. It sucks. But to pretty much screw someone over by taking their name because of a situation they cannot control is total BS.

Everyone knows in an MMO if you want that name, preorder, cross your fingers and get in game as fast as you can on day one. After that cross your fingers, and if that doesn't work, suck it up and move on.

Dude I have lost loved ones and served my country. I would be happy to meet other adventurers with the same name in Tamriel. I can tell you from Google that there are many many others with my name doing their stuff on earth, and more power to you all. It doesn't diminish who I am, my service or my deceased ancestors. This is ZOS maybe because they thought bots would be all named the same. So make an account holder choose different names for his characters. And make a list of botter names (not that I saw one in months now).

I've tried my share of unavailable names, but could easily have added a title, epithet, or surname to the name if I'd really wanted to use it. Or slightly adjusted the spelling--or phrasing in the case of certain races. I really don't see creative players running out of lore-friendly names any time soon and strongly agree that filching other characters' names would decrease their players' interest in returning to the game after a break.

Mostly childs have second name (surname), so yep, most combinations are unique.

    You're not serious are you?

There are over 7 billion people on the planet. Even with all the various first + middle + surname combinations there are probably at least dozens of people who have your exact same name. And that's not even taking into account the dead.
And I don't like OP idea. Hope ZOS will never implement this feature.

Neither do I. Most definitely not. I think it's dreadful. ZO would me madder than hatters to implement it.

A good thing few people play orcs, it does not create one single lore-correct orc name..

I will confess to making one Orc character just to pin down the name Leighton Noochenbacher.

Reviving this thread without reading. I didn't want to create a new one because this thread has already been made.

    Dear ESO support team,

I bought an early release access to this game when it first came out a year ago and I stayed up all night and waited for the launch time to go live. Unfortunately, servers were constantly crashing and it didn't go live on NA servers until a couple of hours later. Eventually, I decided to take a two-hour nap only to wake up and have my desired name taken.

Here's the problem. I would be totally okay if the person who took my name was using it and leveling with it. But instead, this player left that name on the side as a level 1 character and used another main character to level and progress with. I tracked this person down because I added him as a friend on the first day of release. This player was an Australian player, who I feel had the advantage over myself (a North American player). That means, while I was staying up all night and falling asleep to ESO launch, this person is awake and refreshed, whilst living a regular standard Australian day.

Ever since this day, I've been bitter that I wasn't able to take the name I wanted. Even more bitter that it's sitting as a level 1 character on someone’s account. Even more so bitter now I want to come back to ESO and use that name, but he hasn’t logged on in 18 MONTHS! Technically, I could ask him to delete that name so I could use it, but the problem with that is I don’t know him on a personal level and he looks like he’s forever inactive.

I’m considering coming back because I wanted to invest in purchasing the four-dlc pack. I want to know whether this investment is worth paying for, and whether this investment is worth my time. I played and got to V1 in one month after the release, only to eventually feel a significant lack of immersion due to committing to a name other than the one that I had originally wanted. Please let me know if you have the capability to free up this name. Blizzard has done the same service for me on World of Warcraft because of their inactive account and level 10 and below name policy. I am more than willing to subscribe to ESO plus, and unsubscribe to other mmos such as Final Fantasy XIV and World of Warcraft, for a chance to re-immerse myself into the world of Tamriel.

Thank you very much for your time.
Hope to hear from you soon.

I could repost the convo I had with the ZOS Support representative, but it's pointless and the Long story short is ZOS support team can't do me this favor because there IS no policy about inactive account and name usage.

When I reactivated my old Warcraft account to get back into Warlords (at the time), my old buddies from Burning Crusade ended up switching factions along the way. I decided to change servers and join them, but unfortunately the name I usually use was taken. I understand that it's partially my fault for choosing a fairly popular name, but typically I'm usually the first to use my desired name. I looked up on Blizzard armory to see what level the character is. I found out that the character was level 5 but I couldn't check his gears because he's an inactive player. I contacted blizzard and asked if I could get the name, and they swiftly (in the same day) made the name free for me.

Now, they (Blizzard) are able to do this because of a policy they created. ESO, or ZOS, does not have any type of policy in place. Since it's a megaserver, it really sucks to come back to ONE Tamriel and be forced to use the extended letter scripts or ASCII codes to create your name, but then everyone will be pissed at trying to add you to party or as a friend.

At least in this game you can use several words as a name (surname, or an 3 word name, whatever). I come from playing WoW and creating a new character was plain stupid. My boyfriend's new monk was "Crispybeef". Talos bless ESO hahaha
