Alt deletion limit. Why?

I wonder why they limit how many alts we delete,and when we are allowed to delete them.I've created an alt,and realized I had forgotten something,or made a mistake.Like I forgot to change his height and Alliance,..too late.BUT,I cant go and recreate him,cos I have the limit now.None are played the same either.
It's been two days now,and I cant change him yet.

You should be able to delete 3 chars until waiting time. This was made to block spammers/bots.

Okay, but how long is the wait time? I've been wondering the same thing but haven't asked on the forums or found out for myself, yet.

Every 24 hours, one delete restores, up to the maximum of three.

Edited to clarify: There must not be another deletion within this 24h timespan, because this resets the timer.

So what you're saying is, is that in the past 48 hours you have created 6 alts, deleted 5 of them (which used up the 3 deletes + the 2 restored over 48 hours) and are upset you can't continue to spam create/delete alts?

Seems like we are getting the full story here. As presented, yes you can of course create an alt, realize you made a mistake, and then delete them to re-create. You just can't do it literally, over... and over... and over... and over again.

Sarcasm doesn't help.

Some people really enjoy MMO's and creating their ideal character can take a lot of planning and sometimes, several attempts.

From the physical appearance, to the name and how the toon actually looks and displays in-game compared to in the Character Creation phase play a huge part in being happy or unhappy with your toon.

In some MMO's I have often created a Toon, only to log it in and find it looks terrible in-game, so I have learnt not to waste any time on a toon that I know I won't enjoy and delete it before putting in too many levels.

So I can sympathise with the genuine folk that find they are being restricted with character deletion restrictions.

Maybe we need a character Face Sculptor to open shop in Riften...

So, which is better: a few people who might feel being overly restricted by this measure, or whole server populations who are effectively freed from gold farmers and RMT spammers by it?

Well, I must say that it is pleasant not to be bombarded with spam and that this restriction has made it difficult for the illegitimate gold farmers, but it's a shame that the developers did not come up with a solution to prevent spamming and gold farming bots that did not restrict other players.

I have no idea how this could be achieved, which was why I made the remark about having a Face Sculptor implemented that allowed a player to modify their existing toon, so they aren't restricted to only deleting their toon and starting over.

Whilst I could never bring myself to utilizing Riften's Face Sculptor in Skyrim (Just seemed a little dodgy down in the sewers;).... I might just pay them a visit when it is introduced into ESO so that I can get rid of this red and blue face paint I plastered onto my main toons head. Besides, this toon of mine is 6 months old now and hasn't had a bath in at least 6 months, so he could do with a good clean up...

My apologies, no sarcasm was intended. All I pointed out was the problem. as communicated to us, didn't jive with fact. I actually gave the OP the benefit of the doubt and said we were probably not getting the whole story.

Seems like we are getting the full story here. As presented, yes you can of course create an alt, realize you made a mistake, and then delete them to re-create. You just can't do it literally, over... and over... and over... and over again.

That's not how it works, you get one delete back after a full 24hours. If you delete 1 and then within 24h delete another this will reset the timer and after 24h (assuming you don't delete another) you get one delete back.

So if you delete 3 in close succession you will only get one back 24h after the last delete.


Also, yes it's a silly restriction, especially since bots are a thing of the past.

ZOS fixed gold spammers by putting this restriction in place.

One of the best things they've ever done.

As I mentioned earlier,I do understand the bots thing.Which is why they have the restriction on how many alts you can make,but,it wont help a botter by restriction deletion.They still cant make more than 8 chars. I mean,how can it help a botter to keep deleting their alts? Unless ZOS hunts for them and banns them.If this is it,cool. I just dont pay attention to the bots or gold issues. Cos I never look at the chats.

^ This is me for sure. It takes a couple levels for me to really decide whether I like a character or not. I think I finally have a Templar alt that I like and might take though level 50.

I can handle deleting an alt every 24 hours if the tradeoff is no gold-spamming player characters.

There are (or at least there used to be) a number of quests spread across the non-vet zones where you just need to talk to a character or do a simple and quick fetch task to get some gold. Rinse and repeat with an automated script, and you have a constant trickle of gold to sell. You will need to create and delete many characters per day to make it a significant source of income, though.

might want to submit a ticket then. I delete 3 and have a new one the next day. I too take a lot of time creating my character . I never noticed about the limits until recently.I did notice that all the dialog about gold and that was gone,though I ignored all that.I just didnt put the two together.
