    Pay to Win is why.

The other reason is I want them to focus on making the game better, not giving you an avenue to fix a decision you made months ago and are unwilling to fix yourself.

You complain at length about how bad your character is and how useless some of it's qualities are, yet you spend two months continuing to play and level that same character. You tell me you love the character, the exact words were Khajiit Sorcerer, yet you don't want them to be Khajiit anymore.

You have 8 character slots, use one of them to fix this problem yourself.

I've never seen any convincing argument as to why race change is pay to win.

So, explain to me, how can you "win" just by switching from Khajiit sorc to Altmer sorc, when 90% of sorcs in AD, for example, are already Altmer? By such definition, then those 90% have already "won." Considering that 90% of sorcs are Altmer (or some equally good race) I guess we have a lot of winners among sorcs, lol.

As I wrote earlier, OP is not planning on paying to "win" anything. He just wants equality with the rest of the sorcs who are playing as Altmer/Dunmer, etc.

I am not sure that I would use race change (for me, it really depends on how game balance changes and whether they will rebalance the racials), but I fully support such an option.

Id say its pay not to lose.

Personally, if we have to have them, Id rather see 'racials' as a form of background system for characters. You create a character and pick your background options deciding how he was brought up and trained thus choosing your perks from those available to your faction. If you want to change a perk later on you visit the zone of the race which specializes in that particular bonus and do some daily training quests for a week or two in order to acquire it.

From a pure min/max perspective, Imperial is the best race choice for any build in the game. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to learn why.

I've asked for this a few times OP and you can just forget about it because this is a feature we probably won't see for a while. Either reroll or keep playing.

Yes I've asked for it before too and have participated in other topics about it before as well. I just don't understand why they would possibly wait. Almost everyone sees it as inevitable but I see no benefit on holding off. Make money PLUS make your customers happier? Great Job!

You seem to think that most people would be happy with a race change. Show me proof that most of their customers want this? I certainly don't want this.

Even if you yourself have no reason to use it, why would you not want it around? More money for ZOS right? More people, who DO want to change their race happy about it so they stick around longer, so more people to play with (giggity) right?

I have repeatedly stated why in other threads on the topic, so i do not feel like repeating it again. Especially when nothing i or anyone else says seems to pass through the people who want this heads. If you want to find out why then go search for those threads.

Not for all builds. I've seen Altmers go 49 points into magicka and 0 in Health, and with no +health enchants, and manage to survive fine apparently.

Can't you just make another character in the race you want to play in? Changing races doesn't make much sense.

How is it paying to win when so many people playing this game already have those bonuses?

I agree that there are WAY more important things that ZOS should be focusing on before race changes, but it doesn't change the fact that I think it should be in game. This topic was made because I'm shocked it is not in game already. It is free money for ZOS with literally no negatives. I understand people writing in forums that they are against race change, but no one is quitting the game or even feeling negative about the game if it was introduced. Hell, I don't even think anyone in favor of a race change is going to quit over NOT getting it. It's just something that I know I and a ton of other people would pay for and it is one of the most palpable things to be sold in the store besides vanity type items.

Yeah only 200 magicka. That is only nearly two other legendary, infused, legendary magicka enchanted major pieces! That is only like 600% more of an increase in magicka compared to upgrading your full armor set of armor from blue to legendary(including glyphs). That is such a minor power increase compared to every boost I've had since reaching VR1. /sarcasm

That really depends on your priorities and your build. Sure, a magicka NB might be OK with 200 less of his main resource... What about a stamina based NB? Can he discard 200 stam and still do 1.2k dps?

Also, minimal? AYFKM? Compared to what?

Not particularly interested in seeing characters constantly rotating through races in reflection of the current flavour of the month.

People swapping races to be one race and a Magicka build, then swapping to another whenever Stamina builds are fixed, then swapping to another because a certain class/race synergy got buffed or nerfed.

Beyond that, am fine with the idea. Maybe a one-time-only swap.

Personally wanted to play Breton at launch, but ended up rolling a Nord because Bretons are inexplicably the only human race without dreadlocks as a hair option. Would like to swap race if this oversight is ever fixed, so can sympathize with the issue to an extent.

Start a new char? Oh well.. do all dungeons again, skyshard hunt, collecting lorebooks, levelling up undanted line... it does not sound like fun. With each changes racial passives increasing magicka/stmaina/health are becoming more powerful (increased soft caps and in future removal of soft caps).

Since they are tracking your XP after hitting level cap, it would not hurt to grind a new char from vet 1 to vet14+ and after that, if champion system is implemented, you can do every quest to improve your champion rank easyly.
1-50 you can do in -24 hours.
After that in Craglorn with Hircine and co.

At leat, that is, what i am doing right now, because i know, that you will wait at least another year for an ingame shop to open.

Oh okay fine! LOL I'll play too then. IF I were to take the request of the OP seriously, I would be against race changes (and class changes) simply because this involves changing stats/game mechanics. This would be a nightmare for the devs and ultimately subverts the entire point of ESO...which is to play the game. I support having easy access to cosmetic alterations that do NOT affect gameplay. So yes to changing names, hair, adornments, tats, scars and makeup and, if it were really desired, a complete character redo wherein you could go back to character creation and start over on the PHYSICAL design of your character from scratch up to and including a sex change. Because none of that impacts mechanics.

You can get to VR14 in a week. But like you say, it's other stuff that turns re-rolling into a workload.

All the grinding of skill lines and passives, including Undaunted and Alliance War, that's months of work. Farming of skills points includes both quests and skyshards. Than there's the hungry mount, how many apples and days to get that thing to 60+ speed? Regardless, re-rolling takes for ever, if you want respectable skills, passives and move faster than a packing guar.

They can balance the racial passives (something I would prefer) or allow players to change race. The way soft caps keeps going up, apparently about to be removed, makes this situation even more troublesome.

every elder scrolls games was play the way you want and none of em had race changes, some choises do matter you know, and like said it would only favour flavor of the month builds, in the end you would only see mainly one race, and when blance changes, it would be mainly another race

also yes if you want to do everything rerolling is gonna take some time, but as said grinding to 50 can be done in a day and to VR14 in a week if you wanted, and with champ system comming, having multiple vr char will give you more chap points to start with. I've finished Cadwells gold with 2 char, the first one I did everything, every side quest and all there was to do, second only main quest, main map quests, fighters, mages, group dung, pub dunge, dolmens, world bosses, skyshards... still al long time but already alot faster than the first

best answer is the one i quote here above.
@eliisra obviously knows the truth about this subject.
i would prefer to change my race only for 1 reason and one reason only and that would be because it would fit my immersion better, i only made the character i have simply for the passives of thier race and i now regret having made that decision.

Yes, but why not make the race passives to something like "personal attributes".
You can invest a maximum amount of skillpoints to an attribut describing your character:

"As a child this one has workt hard with her mother who was a healer" --> 2%4% Healing done

"This one has done his exercise to strenghen his body every day" --> 5%/10% max. Stamina

I hope you get the idea. You could have cooped this to decisions made during your game time, but i guess it`s to late for that.
(For example, if you choose a non violent strategy you gain certain attributes).

But since Zenimax want you to chooose (witch imho opposes the whole idea of "play as you like", the class passives will be weakend after a while, because percentage is always stronger than some shady resistances etc.

From a pure min/max perspective, Imperial is the best race choice for any build in the game. I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader to learn why.

For stamina builds yes. For magicka builds, the stamina perk is useless and red diamond is extremely questionable, so 10% magicka + a good passive is always going to be better than 12% health + red diamond.

That being said, I do agree that race changes would be good for the game as a whole, because right now with races being static, there is far too much "locked in" at character creation.

For example, if I chose to respec my altmer sorc to a stam build, I'd lose out on effectively 22% health compared to an imperial, everything else being the same, so that really is not an option for me.

What I don't agree with is them being a paid service, not with subscription based model at the same time. IMO It should be costly, both in time and ingame currency, but not outright being sold for $$$.

It is their fault - they keep changing soft caps and they are increasing max stats. Thus some racial skills are becoming more and more powerful (like +10% more max magicka/stamina).
What is more, when some of us were creating characters duging early access it was almost next to impossible to predict how ZOS will be changing racial skills.

Not to mention that after the game was released they have changed a few racial skills.
