I just joined a PVP guild that asks members to wear it. I wasn't too excited about that because I worked hard on my appearance, but they're so well coordinated, I'd wear a pink dress if they asked me. Fully against the removal of an item that does nothing to detract from the game.

I'm amazed that this went over a full page without mentioning the PvP aspect.

The reason your guild wants you to wear it (and the reason ZO is fixing it) is because the disguise reduces your hitbox. It's being used as an exploit.

So that's why we can't have nice things.

Really? Is there information detailing this somewhere? Does this mean if I play my tiny Bosmer is my hit box reduced compared to my bountiful Orc? If that is the case is wouldn't PvP be full of creepy little Bosmer? (although killing other people seems appropriate for the feral, carnivorous rat elves!).

"Bountiful" That is a wonderful term. My orc and khajiit are both "bountiful"

The problem is simple, they are skimping on things they haven't got money for. Ever seen how goblin player on a horse looks like? They stand on top of the horse while riding it.

Nobody has made animation for mounted goblin...

    Computer says: No

    I loved goblin, this sux.

I failed to consider this, since I don't normally play PvP. But I made an Altmer with max height. I am, at least vertically, the tall side of the barn. Hey, at least I don't need a step ladder to reach the top barrel in the rack.

    this is completely incorrect

right before the last big patch I could ride in troll costume perfectly fine

after the patch I look like I'm surfing a horse.

I want to formally protest this decision - why take something fun OUT of the game?????

    Reconsider This Please!!!!!

Hey guys, just want to clear up some confusion. If you abandon the quest A Goblin's Affection, the Shadowsilk Gem will be removed from your inventory. However, if you pick up this quest and even complete it, you will keep the Shadowsilk Gem and can transform yourself into a goblin. We are not planning to take this item away from you.

That's awesome, thank you. But what about players who have already completed this quest?

It's a Stonefall quest. Can't you just create an alt, pick up the quest, and drop the gem in your bank?

I can all but guarantee that this is because they can't fix the animation issues when using it while riding a horse.

True. Like their "tooltip fixes". Dodgy dodgy dodgy.

This isn't a "fix", ZOS is not fixing what is broken, this is not broken. It's just yet another insult to the RP community, and ZOS wasting resources to remove a non-broken item when those resources could go to fixing game-breaking bugs.

Insult to the RP community... Lol?

There is a 'bug'of sorts when riding a horse with goblin and I'm NOT talking about the horse 'surfing' thing, I'm talking about something else.

Those that know what I'm talking about will nod and know that the bug is something that can't stay in the game longterm, even if it is fun.
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

This is in fact the case.

And this is what I recommend, especially considering that the CSRs seem to have their heads up their pooper. I started my issue emails with them because there is a BUG, where the gem gets eaten if it passes through email, which MEANS, that people can sell these things on guild stores all day long, but not a single buyer will ever receive what they pay for. THIS, is a bug and this was the point of the conversation with the CSRs because I can show how it happened.

Alas. I am not getting paid to QA this mutha' so I think I've put in enough time writing detailed emails to the CSR team only get back vague and inane responses peppered with utter fabrications.

    Bet of luck all!

Good news that the item is staying :)

So if it's staying, could we fix the horse riding animation so I don't surf around Cyrodil?

Oh and fix /dance too please. Every good goblins gotta dance!....

it was so funny the other day in cyrodil, we were celebrating we just took the whole map, so joking around.

at one point I jumped up on my horse, and suddenly on ts, one was saying "how does she do that", I didn't respond since I couldn't actually see what I was doing, on others screen, I was actually somehow dancing on top of the horse, just not being able to see it myself :)

Actually I see a pretty bright future for role playing in this game. A very old friend of mine - in both senses of the word - makes videos for the Blue Skooma guild and an RP bunch on the EU server. He created an overhead chat mod for them and when they introduce overhead chat to the game RP can really sing. It's already supported by an impressive list of emotes.

Plus ZOS has demonstrated their ability to do cosmetic outfits and even cosmetic races. But online game development often begins AFTER a game launches. It will take some time to add those touches.

For anybody curious, this first started with a little item in Ultima Online called The Mask of the Orkish Kin. It was originally introduced to pass as an Orc to the Orcs. Players took it and became Orcs....made Orc villages, spoke only in Orc, drove the right people crazy by no longer "understanding" other languages when not addressed in Orc. By the right people, you know the enemy of fun types I mean.

Paul Sage was on the original Ultima Online design team. He's no enemy of fun and he's this game's creative director. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the game. For RP it will get nothing but better IMO.

You mean the game that completely [snip] the original Ultima lore, and by many is given the "honour" of the death of the Ultima franchise? OK...

@wwusterbarthub17 what you have to do is transfer the gem to an alt before you talk to the quest giver to finish the quest.

If you have the gem on you it disappears, if you have stored it on an alt, it stays.

And I completed the quest before I found this out too, not that looking like a Goblin is exactly my scene.

BAD MOVE ZOS! While I personally have no interest in roleplaying a goblin and even find some of the folks who do extremely annoying it is still a TERRIBLE idea to get rid of this. You guys keep saying you CARE about roleplayers but you pretty much do ZERO to enhance our gameplay (giving us a bunch of emotes that were already in game animations was nice but it's really about the only thing I can think of that you've done for RP to date) so really...do you WANT to be seen as not only NOT caring about your roleplayers but doing things to DELIBERATELY squash their fun? Because that would be pretty freaking dumb.

Daddy's money =/= industry success. Daddy's money = 6 months of titillation followed by a mass exodus of subscriptions.

Core elements; like RP, = lasting community involvement and satisfaction

So much this. ^^ I have long warned against chasing after the "hardcore" kiddies. This demographic, while massive, has zero loyalty and zero retention value. They WILL flock to the next new shiny no matter what you give them. And mom and dad are generally only willing to pay for one game at a time. We grown-ups who pay for our own subs are the ones you need to be courting...because if you do we'll actually stick around and keep paying you. And there are a LOT of us looking for the game that actually understands this.

The very same day this thread was started (back on August 19th), ZOS gave the following official response (on page 2) :

However, if you pick up this quest and even complete it, you will keep the Shadowsilk Gem and can transform yourself into a goblin. We are not planning to take this item away from you.

Hi there, folks! It seems this thread was bumped for some reason. We will be closing it, as this is an old conversation and no longer relevant. As said by Gina much earlier in this thread, if you abandon the quest A Goblin's Affection, the Shadowsilk Gem will be removed from your inventory. However, if you pick up this quest and even complete it, you will keep the Shadowsilk Gem and can transform yourself into a goblin. We are not planning to take this item away from you. Thanks! :)
