Player Made Rules & Craglorn Grinding

I won't name specific people however I've been grinding Craglorn for the last 2 weeks, trying to get through the monstrous timesink that is VR ranking and I've come across 2-3 individuals who are particularly bossy about unspoken rules on how to grind correctly.

I'm happy to be corrected on this so flame on if needed.

At peak hour times I've found myself waiting over an hour to try and get an invite to a grind group. With my limited playtime I instead choose to follow these groups and get involved in the fighting outside of the party.

I wasn't aware that only the top 12 damage dealers receive experience from a boss, is this correct?

Receiving a torrent of abuse because I can't be bothered waiting hours for some arbitrary queue to allow me into the grind group seems a bit rich.

How do you personally handle this? Do you dive into the fight regardless of people sending you whiney/abusive tells, or do you sit back patiently and pleasure yourself to the 1 terabyte of hentai you recently torrented?

    hentai obv...

If you are grinding something like thief this shouldn't be a problem, or are you following people around thast are questing? :?.

Anyway, yea, only the top 12 get exp/loot.

Mainly burials at the moment, seems the best bang for buck in the EXP department.

I guess it's unfortunate that the VR system requires this type of rule-setting. Personally I think I prefer to take on the role of 'belligerent-***' and selfishly dive in.

I'll be damned if I'm going to wait for some chump who has been grinding for 8 hours straight to drop out of a group so I can gain an hours worth of exp.

Complete all the quests instead. You'll probably need to go back and do them at some point anyway so it'll save you time in the long run.

Consider this... If I have 1-2 hours a day to play, and my ultimate in game desire is to reach max VR and PvP as soon as possible. Would you solo quest, or would you instead do Craglorn?

Solo questing seemed to take around 10-12 hours per zone/VR Rank and this seems like a pretty poor investment of time.

I'll go back and do those quests when I run out of skill points ;)

I went from VR7 to 12 in around 6 hours of grinding in craglorn
Fairly certain grinding is the way to go

You have to learn to ignore people and do whatever you want. Nobody in ESO has any authority to tell you what to do.

Also, the ignore function and offline function are both very nice with regard to avoiding abuse.

I wouldn't care. When people pay my subscription fee they can tell me where I can and cannot grind.

I do Craglorn grind on alts occasionally. If a grind group is full I just tag along outside of it (until there's space) and nuke the bosses. I usually get the exp anyway. Never gotten any angry whispers for doing that though.

But it's problematic with the 12 people credit thing. Results in no one being willing to heal or tank. No one's taking care of the adds either. So many unnecessary deaths at boss grind and anomalies. Everyone's busy fighting each over getting kill credit, while team members are dying all over the place. Like I could heal people about to die while being in a grind group, but if I do I might not get any exp lol. It's a bad design.

You don't need to do much dmg if you're a healer in order to get credit :)

Then dont wait , it is that simple.

Any and all player made rules are just that , player made. If it isnt a rule made by zen , then you wont be punished for it.

Ofc , people will remember your name and might not group with you later and you must be able to do the said dmg to be able to get the exp.

But if you manage , then people cant really tell you not to fight part of the content because they dont want you to do it.

If the content is open , then it is open. Eveyone has the same right to it.

Honestly if all I wanted to do was pvp here, I would probably go do that, then either of the choices you provided. Sure it slower, and yes until you caught up you would be a little weaker, but if all you want to do is pvp, I'm assuming you are good enough to make up that difference on 99.9% of the vr12s there already. But you said you only play an hour to two a day so maybe you are just cannon fodder like me.

Every society has rules of acceptable conduct. Most people abide by those rules. Some people ignore the rules and are labeled accordingly.

I have played in 10+ MMOs over the past 15 years, and all of them have player made rules of acceptable conduct. The vast majority of people abide by those rules. I have seen people wait in line for bosses, refrain from looting items that could be better used by someone else, etc.

Conversely, I have also seen people steal kills, ninja loot, etc ... but in a close knit society (like most MMOs), those people are generally known and avoided.

Yes it's true. Zenimax set up the dynamic, players have adapted. So you can either adhere to the conduct that players are adhering to or go against the grain and get treated accordingly. But don't expect sympathy for going against the grain.

Player made rules are not rules. This will make some Excel-Spreadsheet players mad, but it is like this:

If I want to grind some mobs in Craglorn, I do. Any mob, anywhere, anytime. I pay their rent just like the next guy, and heaping abuse on me in zone chat because I killed "your" mobs will get you reported, or maybe just ignored if I am feeling charitable.

Others can rage at will now, I will still kill whatever monsters I want, at any time.

    So yeah.

This. You aren't obligated to wait in any sense. There is just zero ethical or TOS issues with grinding monsters for XP, even if others also wish to grind them in their own way..but with exclusive rights. Nobody has exclusive rights to mobs. Nobody.

some of this info is false. I play a healer and get full experience credit and rewards for grinding bosses in craglorn. Our tanks also get full credit and we run full large group with stragglers always tagging bosses and mobs. I got 9 purples just two days ago on a two hour grind and im not hardly doing any damage at all nor are the tanks.

I wouldn't be surprised if "leechers" eventually get classified as griefers. Pretty much every MMO has rules against greifing world boss spawns, which is what this essentially is.

Ya do whatever you want. If Zen decides that they want to adjust the actual perimeters of the game because players are becoming unhappy with the design, they will do that. This type of issue may draw their attention towards adjusting the current loot table system and possible grouping issues.

    ZOS:
GIVE THE PvP folks some increased e-x-p in Cyr. Why the heck can't they get their play on by you know, having a reasonable alternative to gain e-x-p playing IN the area which is comprised of what their eventual goal is all about to begin with????

    RAISE PvPing e-x-p.

*Heh, go ahead and RAISE PvE GROUPING e-x-p for VET CONTENT while you're at it.....err, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***Course then you would have some people more motivated to actually be GROUPING UP IN CRAGLORN instead of making up player content grinds for trying to
gain e-x-p. Huh, what a concept. Wasn't that what the TESO devs originally designed Vet content for .....................................PvE GROUPING?

Neither. I'd play a game that allowed me to do PvP straight away without solo questing or grinding. Probably Battlefield or Titanfall. (though I do wish somebody would make a fantasy themed one)

When I got to V1 I went to Craglorn and the groups would only take V6 and up needless to say, I was in the same position. So I went around looking for skyshards , trunks etc - got killed by the dang wasp right past the bridge and by this point was pretty much over the 'vet content' Then I see a pack of about 12 players fly by on their horses heading somewhere so I followed. They went to some temple looking thing and these bosses showed up, I jumped in with them and started pounding rt a long with them even got some loot ! Then a couple days later I'm reading a thread and someone says something about people following their groups etc and how we need to find a group and quit (paraphrasing) messing them up... Seriously??? Find a group.. WHERE ? Then these others are 'oh ya, my group only has like v1-v3 ,well y'all weren't taking anymore when I was on.. So I guess what I'm saying in my rant is Follow them , participate and ignore them. If you get loot - Then good for you. They whisper you with a bunch of crap, report them. Meanwhile keep hitting chat with LFG maybe one will pop up.. But heck no, don't wait, go have fun or come to Cyrodiil and have a blast- lfg will get you in a group and they'll appreciate the help .. Haven't been back to Craglorn since I went to Cyrodiil. That was over a month ago.

I don't care either way. I just know that in every other MMO I've played, interfering with world bosses (in this case, stealing XP and loot) is considered greifing.

Let us put the shoe on the other foot and sees how well it fits? Someone in a grind group, getting XP / Loot just fine until some people show who start grinding out side of the people thus taking away XP / Loot from someone in the group. How would make you feel if someone take YOUR XP / Loot away?

I am sorry for the OP's limited play time, but the fact is that he is leeching XP / Loot from someone else. Out of respect, one should wait for a spot in a grind group. Lack of play time is no reason to steal XP / Loot from others.

Abuse tells, talk is not needed either, but people do have a right to be upset about their loot / XP being taken away by others. The best course of action, just to wait for a spot in a grind group or found something else to do ingame while you wait. One can easy avoid abuse tells, stealing XP / Loot that way.

Can someone please explain how the healing works?

I was not able to get xp when a friend and I first got to one of the grinding areas; we didn't seem to be able to do enough damage to consistently get the credit. However, there was another group nearby, so maybe they were getting it all.

If I was in the only group in the area, and I just healed, would I get xp? I am only VR2.
