Update 1/28/2015: And lootable NPC clothing is now live on the private testing server. Thanks to all those who supported this, and a huge thank you to ZeniMax Online and the teams who made this possible.
I spend most of my ESO playing time either role playing or looking for crafting mats so that I can make new interesting outfit combinations. I love the variety in the armor styles between races (and even levels within a same style), but there is only one thing I wish we could do...
Have a way to obtain the clothing that the NPCs wear.
Above: Beautiful Dunmer in beautiful clothing that I must have.
There are some really great pieces of clothing that I wish I could get my hands on. In fact, I would sink pretty low to get that little white servant hat. I would sneak into a house and raid their wardrobes, perhaps threaten an innocent for it. Maybe even
kill. *Dramatic Thunder Clap*
So that got me thinking. Right now your regular loot run through houses look something like this:
- Food & Drinks
- Cooking Ingredients
- Crafting Style Material
- Lockpicks
- Motifs
- Weapons
- Armor
Motifs give you a pretty good reason to loot, but besides that and certain provisional ingredients, everything else you find can be made or bought.
With the upcoming justice system, I say there should be a little more of a bonus for those with sneaky inclinations. It would be the perfect time to introduce looting clothing off of your victims, or actually pulling a new dress out of that nightstand instead of Coagulated Kawa Quiche.
And imagine further if each item on the NPCs were individually able to be looted, so they are less like costumes, but rather could be equipped into an armor slot so you could mix and match. My inventory slots are weeping at the very thought of it, but they are happy tears. (Unless ZOS was to be
really nice and add a new tab that doesn't count them towards your inventory slots? )
A shirt? In my night stand? It's more likely than you'd think!
This would all be of course just for the sake of immersions and less about being a potential source of income. The clothing could have a value of 0 gold, just as the recently added weapon and armor does, and have no combat stats. They would be purely for ascetics, and make us role players and long time TES fans really, really, happy.
And if it isn't too much more to ask... making them dye-able?
