Nightblade nerfed and DK/Sorc buffed?!

The developers have a strange obsession with their four classes, when the real play styles are primarily dictated by weapon-selection. Class skills merely support and flavour the play-style.

At the risk of seemingly overly simplistic, if you're a destro-staff user, you're a destro staff user - with varying perks gained from each class.

I wanted patch 1.2 to address light armor vs medium and heavy, and the inferiority of melee so badly. If you balance those first, I imagine the balancing the four "classes" would be a lot easier.

Still, cant wait to re-try my medium armor again. :P

I'm really not seeing the Nightblade nerfs...
There's the super minor reduction to Siphoning Strkes, but everything else looks like either a cosmetic issue or a buff.

IDK, I have it morphed to that right now too and when I looked at the before and after with the damage values I decided I would go back to lava leash on my next respec...

I guess it would be nice if it just applied to dragon knight skills, so skills like elemental ring didn't get bonus from it.

Not for nothing but I was to assume over the next few patchs or so Nightblades would be getting buffs. Not nerfs... And again over said patchs DKs were going to be scaled down a bit yet they are being buffed yet again... Let me know if im reading something wrong here but this is what it looks like to me.

You missed the DK tank nerfs then like Igneous shield.

The notes you are seeing are cosmetic issues, nerf to siphoning strikes and a buff to a skill noone is using, and wont use after patch.

Thats it, and this was supposed to be the Nightblade patch..

Doesnt affect me at all. Using Scalding Rune instead of Whip is way better for pyro mage anyway.
Molten Whip scales on weapon crit. So it was absolute useless in a staff spell build. Always did significant more damage with my rune build without whip slotted than fire casters running a whip build.

We aren't saying NBs were heavily nerfed. They received the siphon nerf but what we're arguing about is the fact that the devs would rather reskin and recolor our skills then fix the issues on hand. Congrats someone can see our path now... yay. They aren't doing anything to bring us on par with everyone else like stated months ago.

If most of you would read anything else besides patch notes, you would know what they're planning to do. They aren't just going to buff the *** out of everything drastically, what they are trying to do is slowly but surely balance each class out, with one another. They are going to do this by making micro-changes, so that they don't over-buff, or over-nerf the classes. So stop your little threats to quit the game/re-roll! and just play. Rant over.

So in your defense they are micro balancing. That would be fine if they didnt keep taking side or backsteps with NB. Not for nothing but I dont see them taking 50 side steps, a few back steps then a major leap forward. Never happened in mmo history and wont in this one.

they need to stop nerfing anything and just make the other classes more powerful instead, its bad enough its near imposable to solo quest in vet zones with many classes/builds.

exactly, but, i think it's intentional and done on purpose as there has been complaints and posts and even many many reports made to strengthen the nightblade and the templar they just havent and thats been asked for over a year and a half.

They also need to give us back attributes when we are leveling in VR zones. We level up so slowly any ways that the attritubes I find are greatly needed to give solo players a chance against mobs in the vet zones.

As a NB I am finding VR rather challenging. I prefer to do things alone, and there are regular quests where I have had to ask for help in chat to beat a boss. There was this one in the Rift where you had to escort the scout to to the Ritual site near Riften where you had to fight through three mob spawns before you got to the boss. I could always get through the mobs on my own but would be wailed on by the boss. It took 3 players at or above zone level to take the boss down! Even then it was a major challenge and I am convinced that guy was buffed to World Boss levels.

Additionally, I am finding that I have on average 5 skill points that are going unused because I have no skills that I want to put them in. I am happy with my NB built as it is and don't want to change it. It sucks they nerfed the Siphoning ability though as it's my primary defensive skill line, and keeps me from dying all the time.

Perhaps they should implement something where you can buy an attribute point with a skill point when you hit Vet Levels.

With NBs now topping single target DPS lists, it's fundamentally not a class issue. It's a weapon, especially melee weapon, issue.

Great for the Nightblades who want to push high single target damage.

I suppose that makes up for the lack of CC when it comes to tanking, right?

NB has a lot of issues atm. I play a VR12 Nightblade in full purple plus gear with 2 legendary with purple weapons. Im running 5pc Hundings and 3pc Nightmother. I stack weapon dmg on my rings and fire resist legendary enchant on a VR 11 purple necklace. I run the fire resist because i found that not having vampire in veteran levels made leveling a massive pain and the ability to solo VR solo bosses without Vampire next to impossible. You absolutely need health drain and swarm with health return to survive. If you dont have these atm until nightblade is fixed your screwing yourself unfortunately. Even with siphon, health pots and food consumables theres just not enough survivability unless you wanna go resto staff which you shouldnt have to do.

I open with ambush with the 36% dmg increase on next attack straight into a surprise attack for the armor debuff. I use legendary glyph crushing on both my weapons and purple health enchants on all my gear.

In order to lock a solo VR boss down i have to keep using ambush for the stun while spamming rapid strikes to burn asap. I use drain at about 50% to recoup my stamina health and use swarm to survive the last bit of the fight. Without those 2 skills i probably wouldnt survive. I consider myself an above average dodge user and get out of most anything but most bosses in VR levels will hit you for an easy 1k dmg on a non charged strike that you really cant dodge. At 28% or less i spam impale for the 300% dmg increase to burn the last bit of health. During all this im using VR5 Health posts with magicka and stamina returns as well to make sure i have the pools to burn.

During a 30 second pve fight i can burst from 1200 to 2k depending on RNG and this still isnt enough to survive a 10k+ vr solo boss.

Long story short you absolutely need vampire till NB survivability is fixed.

Offset that with Dark Elf fire resist racial and a legendary fire resist enchant on a piece of jewelry.

As a side note i run 29/0/20 attribute spec and sit around 2700 health. Ive peaked at 3100 with cyrodil buffs, well buff and food.
My stamina regen is overcharged as is my magicka pool and my weapon dmg running around 57% crit. My toon is not chump but i feel theres just something lacking. A lot of something honestly. I was having issues in one of the last daggerfall group dungeons. I was trying to solo it for a skyshard i think. No way would i have been able to do it. I asked a fellow guildie to come in and help on his aoe sorc and he popped his dmg shield and aoe burnt every pull without an issue taking only minor dmg. This is the difference between classes atm. DMG shield + impulse + AoE = stupid soloing. Granted i do have the ability to go caster nightblade and use impulse for aoe but i shouldnt have to. I shouldnt have to go caster staff just to halfway pull off what this sorc was doing.

So the dev's will continue to patch stupid visual effects and graphics bugs yet completely ignore the fact that Nightblades lack in a majority of departments that most other builds excel in.

Id be interested to know what these Nightblades are doing in a serious spec vs. spec breakdown. What weapon they are using etc. Im playing what you would think would be the typical nightblade build with duel weapons, ambush, armor reduction etc and on a group vr dungeon i can sustain around 800ish. Sometimes i go as low as 500 if theres a lot of moving and dodging and ive peaked at 900 with just stationary burn but atm i have to run siphon for the magicka and stamina returns. Potions just arent enough. Also you cant use vampire drain for the stamina return on bosses which needs to be looked at and fixed. Disable the stun effect on a boss but leave the returns. Drain is essentially useless in VR dungeons which until NB is fixed is a vital solution to the surviving as a nightblade.

Dont get me wrong ive played with a lot of skills but not everything, if theres a better way to play DW NB im all ears.

I agree with this statement 100%. I know with my NB if I wasn't a vampire in VR levels there would be no way I would be able to progress on my own as much as I have been able to do so.

But even then, I have to still be mindful of which enemies I am going to encounter to make sure I am not L.4 vamp when dealing with pyromancers.

They really need to work on buffing this class to meet the same functionality of the others.

Well... i do believe the stupidity in handling NB just lost another sub. Really not interested in playing my sorc anymore for elder mages online. Erm, I don't see how the NB has been nerfed. Siphoning strikes is great at 1-50 but at early level vet it's not something I'd have on my bar and it's not that much of a nerf.

And before you start, no I'm not a frock wearing panzy carrying a broom. Medium armour, DW and bow is my 2nd and I'm a..wait for it......a stamina build! Everything that apparently is horrid, yet I manage just fine. Go figure!

I'm very slippery, stealthy and have a fair whack of DPS on first rotation. But that's not what makes my character fun, it's everything else. I have no insta mash 'win' button, instead I do a LOT of stealthing, dodging, blocking and rolling. (roll is my friend) and did I say fast? With the armour and rings I've got, I've got pretty serious stealth, but my sprint speed is fast horse fast!

There are some downsides, I'm a glass cannon and timing has to be just right as I haven't invested in Magicka. I drink my fair share of health and magicka potions and food is my friend. But holy hell my character is fun, and in PvP it's hilariously fun.

For what it's worth, I've actually recently (probably 2 weeks ago) specced myself this way. It's my third respec as I'm trying different things, but this is how I started to play in 0-50 levels and I like the play style so I went back to it despite of all the NB DW and bow hate here.

Everyone says it's too hard and useless. It's not, you just need to be reasonable with your expectations and not expect it to be easy. Yeah, I could be running 7 light with resto like all the other clones here because it's 'the best' but... the best what?
It's not the best gaming experience for me.

Medium armour with bow now in PvP is fun, snipe hits hard and fast and with flawless dawnbreaker it's funny to see the reaction to player with their back turned in a keep.
Been here since Feb 2014 - You'd think I'd be half reasonable at this game by now...

I don't know what people are crying about.... but if they want to unsub... unsub.. no one here will be stopping you doing such.

Instead look into how long it actually take to make things instead, yes do that for starters.

Neither NB or Templar has their downside to be honest, NB is a very strong class so is Templar... yes NB might not get alot of that BIIIIG flashy stuff... but can seriously take down a target like nothing else in this game and people forget ultimate sneaking abilities and backstabs and all the stuff out there.

Also if this kind of post comes from someone who did nothing but to grind up XP having in endgame even as a vr12 limited skill points... then just stfu.... and same with others... this more skill points spendt and gotten, this more advanced gameplay you can get in line.

NBs can tank and heal as well seen it and taken part in groups doing such, would still personally suggest going more shady ways as it is extreme efficient if played out right...

When playing my NB... I am jealous on my DK... and when playing my DK I am jealous on my NB as funny as it sound... people need to make their horizont more wide.

Afterall this is a RPG, which means you gotta take part in the roles you play and not expect it all to be the same as anyone else.
