Sould Strike / Soul Assault In PVP, Its Too Much

    To be fair, I've used Soul Assault my share of times on a number of opponents. I'm not opposed to it. However, sometimes it can get pretty ridiculous. Please see case in point ...

    Either way, can be countered easily and it's just a single target ultimate, fine as it is (and no, I don't have it on my bars, just in exceptional circumstances to troll people ;) )

    Not worse than swarm plus what you can spam in swarm. Game is a big BS atm.

    I stopped using that skill because almost everybody knows how to deal with it and it basically was simply just a wast of ultimate points to cast it. Players out healing the damage, players simply walking out of range, players interrupting me, buddies of players simply killing me… At least it can't be reflected by that wings skill of the DK (I think, never happened to me). It can be used as a nice finisher, but there are other options that don't waste ultimate points.

    I don't care if that skill gets nerfed or stays the same.

    People complaining about the easiest ability in the game to interrupt is kind of funny. Yeah it does a lot of dmg, but all you need to do is sneeze on the enemy casting it and it breaks. Half the time it goes off and the skill doesn't actually do anything...it just takes all your ultimate.

    Don't like getting soul assaulted? Stun the person casting it. Run out of his range. Use Purge. Use Dark Cloak (if you're a nightblade). There are 4 counters for you right there.

    Don't forget to spam harness magicka and laugh at the free magicka battery they gave you at the cost of their entire ult bar.

    If you're a templar, don't forget blazing shield.

    Got hit by two soul assaults while stacking it (not intentionally, just keeping it up to survive) and killed one of them with the damage.

    At least be thankful you're not a guildie of mine who gets targeted with 5-6 of them every time.

    The only reason to keep it on your bar really is for the soul shatter passive to kick in (but I've rarely seen the damage from that make a difference, despite that I vaguely like the idea of kamikaze-ing into a raid and going out in a blaze of glory, spamming Turn Undead and Blazing Shield). But it can still be effective if you're not paying attention or don't have the healing resources to handle it before taking action. Sometimes in the haze of ability spam and particle effects it's difficult to notice someone attacked you with it in the fevered pitch of a big battle - I hate when I see it in my death recap and didn't even know it was on me to react.

    Ive used it a few times and honestly if it gets nerfed I will not care. It has been used on me like this: Wait for her to engage one or two of you..make sure the third guy stays in hide and when she is busy hit her with soul assault..make sure you do it when her health is about half. Profit! Dead DK !!...now finish off her friends. Its getting tiring. :|

    If on a wall and getting hit by it, just go behend one of the stones and it should break normally mean, and it needs the full time really hurt you.

    Also unsure why blocking for me sometimes limits.

    But if your in the open kiss your rear good by less you roll back, its a decent enough ability, just not good to be hit by it in the open. And the full damage range for me more seems to be 1000-2800(st-least when I get hit by it.) not sure why it goes down so much at times. But yes its more deadly then bat swarm.

    You should never take full dmg from Soul Assault. I rarely get hit over 1k. There's plenty of time to react while it's being channelled. It's not even a FoTM skill any more, because there's that many counters (besides dodge or block).

    Sorc and NB can cancel it with BE or Cloak. Templar and DK can even face-tank the dmg with heals and dmg absorbing shields. Also there's Purge, it instantly cancels enemy Soul Assault. Can also spam Harness Magicka and you will hardly take any dmg.

    If you fail, with that many options, you're either lagging, out of resources or CC'ed, unable to break out. But in that case, you really didn't die because of Soul Assault.

    This skill is an odd one. If you are on the receiving end, you see it coming and you are not taking damage from other players, then you can survive it. Then there are instances where it will do insane amounts of damage. This skill hit me for over 4200 yesterday somehow. Yes, over 4200.

    But lately everyone and their mom is using this ultimate. 3.2 sec channel ultimate. Now I know an Ultimate needs to be an ultimate but im being hit for 2000 to 3000 damage (with 1800 soft cap magic resist) from full range 35m in PVP is too much.

    last night every other time i died was because of this ability on my kill log.

    When this ability is used on you, you cannot block it or dodge it, it stays on you doing full damage. When it is used on you at range you cannot get to them to use your bash interupt. They also like to use Immovable before they cast it so there is no way to interupt.

    IMO the damage should be toned down or ATLEAST limit the range and to a somewhat short range ability so the caster has to put them self in danger to use it and have a risk of being interupted by bashes melee range. I know its an ultimate and needs to remain worthy of an ultimate but it shouldnt remain a gaurenteed kill ability from safe range when you get to use it.

    This was a very old thread and im surpised someone brought it back, I actually dont have a problem with it anymore because of Dark Cloak or interupting bash when i am close. I will admit i jumped the gun on this ability but at the time spell power was a bit stronger and every magika build had this as an ultimate. Now days they changed to Batswarm which i do have a problem with because it is not interuptable and Dark Cloak doesnt work against it.

    So now another skill is too much for a player to handle. Been using this ultimate for a longtime, would hate to see it nerf'd because people aren't taking the proper measures to defend against it. As a templar, i just use sunshield and 750 of the damage is already blocked. If they are far away i use shield charge. If they cast immovable, i pop absorb magic or even eclipse. Even popping immovable yourself, mitigates the spell damage. As far as not being able to block the damage, that is 100% false. Blocking mitigates Soul Strikes damage, even if you dont have a shield. You can also dps him down during this channeling, many players have attacked and killed me during my channeling of this spell.

    Its a good spell and is balanced, l2p.

    I completely agree, I actually took it off of my bar because I survive it almost everytime unless other people are killing me while he is channeling or he waits until im below 30% and just dont have enough time to stack my defence.
    you can block and you can inturrupt and you can stun to stop this ult.

    I've nevr heard someone complain so much about such a predictable skill... It's a DoT beam, which lights up the screen... come on...

    My guess is that you are
    1) new to this game
    2) someone who uses sword and board and wants to solo more than 3 people but can't when someone hits you with unblockable soul assault, in which case serves you right... you want to run sword and board easy mode then get hit with unblockable easy mode haha

    but in all fairness, in 1v1 you don't see people running soul assault anywhere near as much as you think, perhaps 25% of the time, not even that

    if you're annoyed that someone used it whilst you are fighting someone else then... it's 1v2 what the *** do you expect lol

    and for the record, shooting star/meteor has a higher DPS than soul assault... it just costs more, if shooting star cost as much as soul assault people would be running shooting star, believe me...

    I've got 3k crits from shooting star, my DPS with shooting star combo has reached above 6k...

    In conclusion, soul assault does its job as a skill that forces these sword board manmode initiating DK who like to kill your entire team, it force them into spending the next few seconds healing and mitigating damage, and therefore soul assault should not be changed, it's more of a support skill with the bonus of being able to kill noobs, personally i think that as long as DK has reflective scale soul assault should be allowed because DK can really push people out of a zone, way too easily, they are essentially anti kite, like zenimax want this game to be zergball vs zergball
