They're words. They don't harm anyone, they have no more power than YOU give them. Stop being childish, your virgin ears can handle it.

    No voi vittu!

Ahhh so then by that logic I should be free to use the N word when referring to African Americans, or for that matter any of many racial slurs directed at many different races. Words mean things, when and how you use words tells a lot about what kind of person using those words.

Personally I hate PC, I believe in freedom of speech but in today's world you can get yourself in some serious trouble, just ask Donald Sterling.

"It is best to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are an idiot, rather than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Sure, why not? Use them how you want, people are going to over-react and judge you no matter what you do. Best thing to do in life is just to live in the way that makes you happy and not worry about what others are going to think about you because of it.

If you wanna use that word, use it. You use it with the knowledge that people are going to probably freak out because they're over-reactionary and overly sensitive about things that really shouldn't bother them and it's foolish.

We don't worry about foolishness, personally. We just enjoy life.

I would ague that certain terms are not swear-words as such but become offensive due to their history of prejudice. The n-word is not a swear word as such.

Good old fashioned swear-words are universal.

Good, then. You've got the idea. Stick to your beliefs and your convictions, live, think, and do what makes you happy, don't worry about what others think.

People need to learn to do this. Constantly worrying about what others think and are doing is caustic, it serves no purpose.

There is nothing outside of yourself that can ever enable you to get better, stronger, richer, quicker, or smarter. Everything is within. Everything exists. Seek nothing outside of yourself.

With only one channel (zone) used for advice, trade, general discussion etc. people should definitely watch their language. A profanity filter doesn't help much if the context of the discussion is graphic or abusive. And I've seen a lot of those--Auridon Zone, last night, for example.

No matter if there is an "M" rating, there are kids playing, not to mention people who just don't want to feel like they're wading in a cess pool any time they want to ask a question. Seriously, you have to have some kind of major social disorder or other personality issue if "saying what you want" in a public channel has to mean you can't exercise the most basic of societal controls.

The game is meant for 17 and up kids shouldn't even be playing this. So why should I have to watch my language because kids are playing? Personally I don't swear in public chat I save it for group or whispers, but people shouldn't need to censor what their saying because kids might hear. Whats the difference between npcs saying a swear word and a player saying it?

"We are talking here about a game where a female ships captain ask you to save her wife, an old bosmer man asks you to get flowers for his husband and so on, and worry about someone being offended by a word dropped in chat?"

Sorry are you saying people should get offended by that???

No, that the people offended by it had to put the big boy pants on, so can the language federales.

    I think.

This is it exactly, Folks will get offended by almost anything, we really can't control what will offend them... think about it, people "Take Offense" they must choose to be offended, if you do not choose to be offended you will not be offended, simple as that.

Yes, things *** us off, I teleport strike, follow with a flurry of blows and miss with every hit... I fight the 2 mobs next to a chest, turn to the chest to see someone looting it... I log in to see I have 5 bits of mail, 3 are offering to sell me gold or crafting stuff cheap, 2 are from level 3 hirelings one of which sends me crap... Well, I can report the gold spammers, that makes me feel better, but how the heck do I fire the hireling and hire someone that will do the job right?
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

People who use profanity serve as useful indicator to the rest of us. It's a sure indication that they aren't bright enough to be worth chatting to and certainly aren't mature enough to group up with. The resulting click to /ignore ensures I never have to see them display their lack of both an education and a worthwhile vocabulary ever again. Sheer bliss.

You know who i think is unintelligent? People that use this tired old fallacy.

Shakespeare is littered with profanities, so are Chaucers works. So is Beowulf. So are many literary classics. Many of those authors are considered the best and brightest in their field.
Pffft, these people are no Chaucer or Shakespeare. They're just mouthy kids. Any moron can be mouthy, and in fact they inevitably are.

A good point, however slightly off-topic.

I was defending the use of peoples right to use profanities, and the fact that there's no correlation between use and intelligence/vocabulary.

Being mouthy, moronic and offensive don't necessarily require profanities to be achieved.
