But you shouldn't be so offended by it!!!! It's your problem, not the words.
Well isn't this [snip] [snip]ping [snip]ed [snip] just all [snip]ed up.

How does this profanity in this game work? Since it's an M (for mature) labeled game, are we allowed to say 'damn' every once in a while? I'm curious.
If you really want to swear, do it verbally without microphone on.
If you use /zone, guild or group channel you want others to hear you. You choose to risk offending others with it when you invest time to write it down. In the grown up world you suffer the consequences for your choices.
I am not peoples emotional garbage dump. If they try to make me to one, we have a disagreement. Your weapons are words, mine are ignore and report.
And before anybody tries the old fallacy: Freedom of Speech offers no protection. Your FOS is lower then my right to be not insulted and not annoyed by you.
And frankly it never applied to this game or the forum in the first place:

What you truly want is censorship. You only want that to be said which you find agreeable. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BoA8wBvIUAAG-Xn.jpg:large

People who use profanity serve as useful indicator to the rest of us. It's a sure indication that they aren't bright enough to be worth chatting to and certainly aren't mature enough to group up with. The resulting click to /ignore ensures I never have to see them display their lack of both an education and a worthwhile vocabulary ever again. Sheer bliss.

I block people who use any type of profanity.
The constant use of profanity to me is a sign of a lack of intelligence and education.
dannymcgr81b14_ESO is right, ZOS set that up because they have standards.
Saying that ZOS has standards, really shows your education and intelligence. Just saying!

Who draws that line? What the pious folks are arguing for is censorship, a censorship that must fall within their view of how the world should be.
...
I am not here to ensure your kids dont see bad things. That's your job.
On top of that, lets say you get your very silly way - who decides what constitutes 'profanity/swearing'?
Some people dont think any words are that offensive and should be freely used, some people object to mild words (such as "bloody"). Who draws that line? What the pious folks are arguing for is censorship, a censorship that must fall within their view of how the world should be.
I always kind of chuckle when people make the argument that "Mature" games means you can swear. Since actual 'Mature' players don't do it.
Its usually done by teenagers who also think squealing their tires at stop signs is also "cool".
That said, I don't care if you swear in public chat, as long as you don't mind me forming an opinion about you when you do it.
I'm sure our sweet children hear far more profanity at school and among their peers than they do through computer games.
I REALLY don't think bad language heard/read in a game will ruin our younglings.
We're doing a good enough job at that through far more insidious means.
Profanity and rudeness are two different things. I'm fine with the former, but not so keen on the latter. Unfortunately, there's no way to create a filter or make hard and fast rules for weeding out rudeness.

Maybe you should read up a bit on fallacious arguments. Here's an example.

I would say read the Terms of Use and Code of Conduct.
Check with the Guild(s) you are in in regards to their policies.

Sheesh, I hate these knee jerk brainless pronouncements.
You don't want hard core x-rated content to be broadcast on network tv? You want censorship. You don't want people yelling fire in a movie theatre? Censorship. I can't put a billboard showing a person getting their head blown off on a public roadway? Censorship. Society is full of censorship.
And anyway, ZOS is a private company, not a government. They can do what they want in their own chat system, and impose whatever terms of service they like, and throw you out if you don't abide by it. Just as a convenience store can have me removed from it if I stand in the middle and start screaming the F-bomb.
And there's plenty of kids who's parents have no clue or don't care. Those kids are garbage we as a society should just ignore and not take even the most basic steps to protect? Nice. There's also parent's who did view the game, and made the decsion to allow their kids to play based on the content (I would certainly let my 13 year old play) but weren't exposed to the zone chat excesses.
So... the kids are just SOL? Because you can't be bothered to control your language or not engage in detailed, graphic conversations in the public chat?
Not to mention the fact that I, paying for a game, shouldn't have to wade through that garbage just to ask a question. Their's private (guild and tells) methods of communication available to you. There's no reason you can't keep it clean in the public one.
