Hi everyone! Welcome to our first PTS weekly summary for the Update 51 PTS cycle. In this post, you will find a high-level summary of the Update 51 PTS – Week 1 top feedback points and issues. The purpose of these weekly PTS summaries is to give you visibility into the main pieces of feedback and most prominent bugs we are tracking. As a gentle reminder, these weekly summaries are not intended to be as comprehensive as our PTS incremental patch notes, and they will not include everything.

Please continue to share your thoughts with us about these summaries. We’ll evolve and optimize them over time with considerations given to team bandwidth, contents, and the right level of detail. Thanks!

Classes and Combat
  • Werewolf – Insatiable Hunger [Feedback]: We are reverting the restrictions added to Insatiable Hunger that were implemented in PTS Week 1, based on player feedback. Specifically, the “three unique stipulations” noted here.
  • General [Feedback]: While not strictly related to this PTS, we see your questions and concerns related to the Warden class refresh, and the class refresh effort in general. We know everyone is disappointed by the delay and would like to know where we’re at with the Warden and general next steps. We are working on an additional written update for you and hope to share it in the coming weeks. In the meantime, thank you for your patience.

High Seas of Tamriel Event
  • Companions Losing Air Bubbles [Bug]: We have identified an issue that is causing Companions to prematurely lose their air bubbles while underwater, and die. We are investigating this and would appreciate any additional details if you see this as you play. (Related post.)
  • Dwemer Dive Bell Quest Marker [Feedback]: We are looking into the quest marker pointing you in a confusing direction while on the Dwemer Dive Bell step of the High Seas quest. We are investigating the issue.
  • Low-Air Visual Effects [Feedback]: We have seen feedback that the visual effect when your character is low on air is too intense and makes it harder to find air replenishment spots. We are investigating the issue.
  • Visuals for Fishing-up Rewards [Feedback]: We have seen feedback that the visuals for the fishing up treasure mechanic could be a little clearer. We are investigating the issue.

Item Sets
  • Draugurkin’s Grip [Feedback]: We see your feedback on the Draugurkin’s Grip and the current state it is in on the U51 PTS. We are exploring some improvements for a later PTS Week.

Rumors
  • Rumors Hand-in Visuals [Feedback]: We will be adding some additional visuals to all Rumor hand-ins to make them a little easier to identify in the world. This change will be available in a future PTS Week. (Related post.)
  • UI – Quest & Rumors Icons Spacing [Feedback]: We are increasing the spacing between the Quests and Rumors icons in the UI so they don’t overlap. This change will be available in a future PTS Week. (Related post.)
  • Various Fiction/Hint Updates [Feedback]: We will be making a number of fictional updates for Rumors including adding more clarity for some while making others a bit more challenging and less on-the-nose. These changes will be available in a future PTS Week. (Related post.)

Player Experience Improvements
  • Hybridization – Essence of Power Potion Icon [Feedback]: We have seen some feedback about the Essence of Power potion icons, noting that it is difficult to tell the Stamina and Magicka versions apart from each other when both are slotted into the quickslot wheel. We are exploring options to make these a little easier to tell apart, at a glance. (Related post.)
  • VFX Intensity [Feeback]: We have seen your feedback regarding adding the option to reduce VFX to 0% via the VFX Intensity settings. We are currently exploring options – please note that any solution will not be available during the U51 PTS cycle. (Related post.)

Miscellaneous
  • Art – Animation [Bug]: We have identified an issue where entering a menu that sheathes weapons while also having an active Personality and weapons drawn can cause visual issues after weapon swapping. This will be fixed in a future PTS Week.
  • Companions Equipment Screen – UI Error [Bug]: We have identified an issue where you may encounter an on-screen UI error when accessing the Companion Equipment screen on the PTS. This will be fixed in PTS Week 2.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom - is the combat team receiving combat/ability-based general feedback now as it pertains to werewolf and DK, especially in the context of PvP?

It is fixed in the current iteration of PTS. It just wasn't mentioned in the patch notes.

I am very happy to see that a writeup for Warden is incoming. I can wait for it, but not knowing anything about it is what's frustrating me.

I do wonder though if any adjustments to combat are being considered. Most of the issues people have issues with are from two specific skills: Core of Flame and its morphs, and Corrosive Armor. Both of those see much greater use in PvP than in PvE, so some targeted adjustments to those skills shouldn't affect the DK in PvE much, but would make PvP much less frustrating.

I also would hate for DK to end up getting some blanket or mistargeted nerfs when the main issues are 1) nigh-unlimited sustain because of Core of Flame, and 2) the ability to go on a severe offense while ignoring most incoming damage from Corrosive

    Good things:

    Warden refresh was cited.

    Insatiable Hunger was reverted.

Draugrkin do not need a nerf.

    Bad things:

WW has been completely obliterated on all classes except Sorcerer with its mastery. Even if you keep the nerf, just apply Battle Spirit and leave it out of PvE. Make adjustments to other aspects of WW so it isn’t dead on other classes.

Nightblades are dead in PvP, just like Arcanists. Use class masteries and Battle Spirit to make them more fun to play, and the same goes for Templars.

Keep your promises of using masteries and Battle Spirit to buff other classes. I always prefer buffing everything rather than nerfing what is working.

Not a single word about Dragonknights (DK) and their dominant status in PvP. Do not nerf DK in PvE just use Battle Spirit.

Thank you for the update, but it's rather concerning that class masteries aren't receiving any mention yet. I'm hoping we can see something done with this system rather than it being completely forgotten about. We cannot have another patch cycle where WW (through Sorc) and DK are on top of everyone else in PvP, and Week 1 PTS has shown that absolutely nothing is being done to address the unbalance.

If nothing is addressed by week 5, I'm unfortunately going to have to give up on this game.

DK is overperforming in every aspect and needs to be looked at in a serious way. Whip hits much too hard and the resource regen is much too high, there are plenty of other issues but if these two were mitigated the class would be at an okay level of strength, still stronger than every other class, but more in line with what a class refresh should allow. The way it is right now is not okay for balance at all.

Will you reconsider adding a magicka cost to Elemental Sus and revert it back to having no cost? This is a big blow against PvE tanks. Could there be a middle ground where it costs magicka based on if Battle Spirit is active?

When tanking with things like, shield throw, frost clench, inner beast, runic sunder for PvE, elemental sus is the main source of major breach, and combined with ice staff and wall of elements applies minor breach.

This is a huge blow to tanking not using traditional taunts, and frankly, this change sucks ass and just makes tanking sustain harder then it allready is, especislly on tanks with horrible sustain (templar), and reducing build variety, please only add magica cost with battle spirit active

Why should such an overloaded skill be free of cost? Makes zero sense from a balance PoV, even for PvE. Stop with this "just use battlespirit" nonsense as if PvE isn't just as poorly balanced as PvP (if not worse if we talk about power-creep)

The other morph is still free isn't it? And the magickasteal will help you further with sustain. Surely the 3 status effects are being applied by DPS.

But the support morph is Ele Drain, which is free.

The reason all supports were using Ele Sus instead of Ele Drain was that Ele Sus is so ridiculously overloaded, and essentially made it so a support could DPS with one (free!) skill.

The cost on Ele Sus is completely justified. If you have to use Ele Sus as your only source of Breach, switch to Ele Drain and hit it half as much since it lasts for a full minute.

DK needs to be nerfed, if you want a quick solution that puts it in a place where it is still strong but doesn't overwhelming overperform relative to every other class in the game, nerf the base damage of Lava Whip by 20% and change Core of flame to 10% resource regen. This is a very weak nerf relative to how much it is overperforming but would help alleviate the issue, it's a good starting point for balance.

The devs really need to either give WW back the Stam recovery they had before, or at the very least make the Stam Skills that cost more than 1.5k only cost around that much. They're ignoring the MAIN REASON they changed how WW Skills work and their cost to begin with, which was so Mag builds could also play as WW.

It would also help tremendously if Battle Spirit and the "against players" tag were used more in adjustments made for PvP, to keep them from negatively impacting PvE. This change is going to make WW in group content start being a meme again.

We need to stop with the entire "hurr durr don't let PvE suffer" argument. PvE isn't "fairy tale land" content where balance doesn't exist and never needs adjustments. I'd argue that PvE balance wise is in a worse state than PvP with how absurd power creep has become. Honestly the PvE community needs a massive "cope pill" and realise that balance is healthy for them as well in the long run.

I absolutely cannot understand why ppl cry about balance in PvE. Seriously what is the difference if I have 150k dps or 180k?

In PvP this 20% is a MASSIVE difference, but PvE? So I will kill boss 20 seconds later? What's the difference? Seriously balancing game around PvE seems ridiculous from my perspective.

As far as I know EVERY class can complete EVERY PvE content in this game.

I agree 10000%. Time and time again, content has been nerfed. I remember completing MoS hardmode on release and it got nerfed like 5 times afterward, after power creep also came into play, making it 20x easier than when it was released. All content in the game, even at the hardest level, doing trifectas, is very achievable even for average players. If every class lost 30% damage this would still be the case. Now I'm not advocating for that, but PvP is a much more important zone for balance than PvE when PvE is already as easy as it is, if really good PvE players were struggling clearing content I would understand, but they don't, at all.

DK’s Core of Flame resource return needs to go. This is being widely discussed across multiple threads, not just in the PTS section but throughout the forums. Removing the resource return from Core of Flame would address a huge portion of the current problems with DK and help prevent us from being stuck in an overwhelmingly DK-dominated PvP meta for the next 6+ months.

If you address Core of Flame and Conservation of Energy sustain, alongside the Werewolf nerfs that have already been implemented, PvP would be left in a significantly healthier state heading into the upcoming months of content drought.

How Core of Flame wasn’t even mentioned in the first weeks’ feedback summary is beyond me, considering how extensively it has been discussed. It is arguably the hottest balance topic on the forums right now.

Was hoping for a bit more for the week 1 update, particularly in the balance department. A lot of feedback has been given, it would be great if we could get some recognition about some of the most pressing issues.

There is a chasm of difference between the top performing classes and the rest in pvp and the core issue is sustain. Heart of flame and conservation of energy are both absolutely insane, like we have been saying for months.
On my stamsorc I run armor potions and Stat food, with like 600 recoveries and I have to try to run myself out of resources.
Meanwhile on most other classes even 2k double recoveries are often not enough for extended fights.

And here's the rub: we have been thru this infinite easy sustain way back when with Black rose and heavy armor passives and they were both nerfed for a good reason. When you don't have to make decisions in your build to balance out sustain/tankiness/damage while others do, you get an absolute massive leg up.

Class masteries weren't even mentioned in the notes despite a clear promise that the system would be iterated upon. Both nb and Templar have masteries that are severely nerfed in pvp for really no good reason. Dks can pump out 20-25k damage burst windows with minimal effort but Templars Judgement brand may be too strong in pvp? Please.

The werewolf nerf completely misses the point which is that sorc masteries are simply too good in pair with it. Not only that you are just creating more work for yourself down the line when you change any masteries, since you will have to take ww into account.

Ele sustain nerf hurts classes with weak sustain, and the best class, DK, doesn't even use it.

Please take the time on this pts which still has a long way to run to actually address at least a few of the most pressing issues.

you mentioned that you want to make nightblades stealth more immersive.
You might consider fixing the "bug" when you break into a house while stealthed that npcs still do react to you even though they technically didnt see you coming in.

    thanks

    @ZOS_JessicaFolsom thanks for the update.

    The Good:

Update on Warden (and other refreshes). I am really looking forward to reading this.

Draugrkin being looked at for different adjustments. The "problematic" build that used this set was already heavily nerfed by the changes to the stealth and recuperative treatise interactions with crystal weapon and overload and the removal of the shattered path signet mythic from PvP.

    The missing:

Nothing on the class "unique" passives, notably Sorcerer and templar passives getting changed in ways that do not synergize with the current designs of those 2 classes, especially with the class refreshes being up in the air (for us players) currently.

DK's "Core of Flame" infinite everything sustain (remember when old ash cloud was reworked because it gave infinite stamina sustain while draining magicka?)

Sorc's Conservation of energy mastery being allowed to work specifically with health cost abilities (blood for blood), core combat (roll dodge, block and bash) and refreshed Werewolf, where these specific interactions are over-inflating the power of this mastery beyond where it sits for more regular use cases of this mastery.

An update on areas the combat team is looking at making temporary changes to bring non-refreshed classes up to par with DK/WW while we wait for their refreshes (unless this will be included in the warden/class refresh post coming soon).

Completely agree. Core of Flame’s resource return is one of the biggest reasons DK sustain is so far out of line right now, and leaving it untouched risks locking PvP into a DK-heavy meta for months.

Between addressing Core of Flame, Conservation of Energy, and the Werewolf changes already made, you’d solve a huge portion of the current balance problems without needing another round of sweeping changes. The fact that Core of Flame didn’t even make the first feedback summary despite how much discussion it has generated is genuinely surprising.
TO THE PVP COMMUNITY: OUR ABSENCE IS FEEDBACK. DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE JULY 20TH VENGEANCE TESTS.

Nice, but please make ww viable on other classes besides sorc. Not fun to limit it to one class. Don't nerf sustain as much, make sorc sustain class mastery work only with sorc skills. Easy fix.
