Inaccessible skyshard in Hall of the Dead in Eastmarch

There is this hall of the dead tomb in the middle of the capital of Eastmarch but the only way to the skyshard there is through a nordic door apparantly that is greyed out. So it is inaccessible and it is unclear which condition must be met to pass through this door.

That is not so good. All skyshards in the base map should be accessibl without having to meet a very specific unknown condition a priori.

You can also go the intended route through the north south. (Mixed up my directions.)

it's a Public Dungeon and that door opens during its quest.

here's the map with the boss and skyshard locations

can't you go south(west) along the bosses to take the other way to the skyshard? i haven't gone there in years so I'm unsure.

yes, you can - in fact you can go around either east or west to get there.

    > unclear which condition must be met to pass through this door

    a dungeon quest

    Not quite.

His problem is that he's using the wrong door. The door that he's referring to is the exit door for the public dungeon quest, and that door is a one-way door and can never be used to access the skyshard, regardless of quest status.

The way to get to the skyshard is via the long path around the "back" of the dungeon, and while there is a door, that door can always be opened, regardless of quest status.

So, no, a quest is not required (but since the quest is along the path, players almost always take it). The OP's problem is simply that they are going the wrong way.

(This sort of thing--where a skyshard is placed in plain view in a deceptively close location but is actually only accessible via a long detour--is very common in this game, and the OP should not have been surprised to see this.)

Specifically, there are TWO quests in this dungeon. To get to the skyshard, you have to go all the way round the path, on the map above, to the *southern* quest arrow. Doesn't matter whether you go around the east or west side (you'll want to kill the bosses on both sides anyway).

From the south, heading up the middle, the doors are always-open, whether or not you're actually on that southern quest.

The delve in Artaeum is infuriating because of this. I can never remember how to get to that skyshard, so I stopped acknowledging that delve's existence.

There are no conditions to meet. It is common for delves and dungeons in ESO to have a high ledge you cannot jump up to or a grayed out door. These are essentially one-way paths that become shortcuts back to the start after going the long way around, fully exploring the delve/dungeon, and coming at door/ledge from other side. There is no requirement other than finding an alternate path to reach objective.

Quite certain you can reach that Skyshard without interacting with the Public Dungeon's quest at all. I've collected it on so many of my characters.

I believe the only skyshard remaining that you still have to do a quest to run across is in The Rift. You have to do the quest A Walk in the Clouds to get to the skyshard. There used to be one in Bleakrock that required a quest, but ZOS moved it outside the mine entrance to fix it.

This is not true. I run PD events for my guild, so I see this regularly. If anyone in the group has completed the quest, the door is unlocked on both sides. It is only locked if you are not in a group with someone who has completed the PD quest (and have not yourself completed it).

I can confirm that. It is hard to reach without at least one NPC trying to give you the quest, though.

The only Skyshard I remember being locked behind a quest is in Old Orsinium. Significant quest progress just to access the Skyshard and the Group Event skillpoint makes that an absolute slog to get.

You can still head up there into the freezing mountains, and while the doorway to it is inaccessible, you can still jump up some rocks to get to it.

Yep, forgot about the Old Orsinium skyshard, good catch. I did not know that about The Rift one though, so I got some new knowledge. Unfortunately, I have already gotten all of them from base game on all my characters, but maybe I'll delete one someday and start over if there is ever another new class.

Access to that particular skyshard is tied to one of the two quest inside Halls of the Dead. That quest can be picked up a few feet in front of a door on the south side of the dungeon. If you're referring to the door on the lower level near the big Y-junction, that one is one-way like a lot of other dungeon/delve doors, so it's accessible from the other side.

I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

Well, there are two quests in this dungeon. The one that you encounter very early in the dungeon ends near the closed, inaccessible door that the OP is talking about. The other quest--the one that would actually open that door--is on the far back side of the dungeon, right along the path that would take you to the skyshard. So in this case, the first quest is of no help, and if they found the second quest, they would've been very close to getting the skyshard anyway.

So what would've solved the OP's problem wasn't the quest--they just needed to do more exploration.
