Is PC/NA down?

As some one who works with large enterprise class systems they can't just be turned on like a normal PC they can take several minutes to hours before they are ready to be powered on. Sending copious amounts of coffee and sweet rolls to all involved. Unexpected power shutdowns are a royal pain to deal with.

I have noticed a difference in the messages I get.

On EU, "The servers are temporarily down for maintenance"

On NA, "Connection to server timed out".

Same effect but different messages.

And where did you get the idea that the EU could login? The login server is one (at least for PC or its look like that is only one), the EU connects to the USA login server and it's down ALL the time, so no the EU couldn't login all the time. A couple of guildies are in the game because it didn't kick them out, but otherwise couldn't connect. I have not been able to login the whole time and now it says that the server is under maintenance.

I dont get why EU need to go down for 12h for an outage of the NA server...?!?!?
Also how i'm supposed to go touch grass at night?

PC EU still going strong

strangely people who were logged in on EU are still able to play atleast until one hour ago ... gotta go full addict mode and farm empty IC for telvar

The authentication server for both NA and EU is in the NA data center. People who were on EU when the authentication server went down could still be online, as long as they don't log out or crash.

I was on EU, but crashed while rezoning, so I'm out of luck.

That's what I mean. The EU servers are up, but they are inaccessible (to people who are not already logged on) because of the login server. So if they can bring just the login server up (which I guess would likely be easier than bringing the entire NA megaserver up), then at least they can restore access to EU first while they work on getting NA up.

Thanks for the update; I've been wondering all day why backup power--which you would expect to find in any datacenter--didn't save you guys, but now it all makes sense.

Just curious. The banner says “some” players are having. Are some players still able to login? Seems weird since they’re rebooting everything (NA I think). Not important just doesn’t make sense to me.

I think the original 12-hour estimation was made around or sometime before noon EST.

It would be nice if they could give us an updated estimate of how much longer this will take, so that we don't have to keep trying to login every hour.

glad to know what's going on at least, thanks for keeping us up to date on progress. I was feeling a bit of a slacker to take a nap after work rather than logging in, turns out, I couldn't have logged in if I had tried

Then I checked "are eso servers up and it said "everything online but checking issues some are having." So I did the repair all files thing, then tried logging in about 10 times confirming the definition of trying the same experiment expecting different results, then did what I should have done:

The second entry by ZOS_GinaBruno says estimating 12 hours from that point (and it's only been not quite 7 hours now), and then ZOS_Kevin in his first entry an hour and a half ago says that it will be longer than the original 12 hours estimated.

It's impossible to know exactly how long it will be, honestly.

the launcher went from "unable to retrieve stories" to showiing the news items but no rotating preview window, when I repaired files. So small things are happening.

Well that's an improvement at least, instead of trying to log in and failing, the launcher has the message right up front it's down for maintenance. That way, we will know to try when that popup doesn't appear anymore.
