It’s highly doubtful we will be going to Hammerfel, that seems to be the territory of ES VI.

On the contrary, marketing a Hammerfell expansion as "The Elder Scrolls Online: Hammerfell" before "The Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell" releases is a great way to generate buzz about ESO. I'd expect a Hammerfell expansion before TES VI releases, anyway.

A huge guess on why a Hammerfell chapter will take a bit (or took a bit if 2025 is there) is so ZOS’ version and Bethesda look fairly similar when it comes to landscape etc.

That’s a guess though. Putting together a Hammerfell chapter around the same time as TES 6 is kind of smart marketing. “Play them in their early days on Tamriel in *chapter name here* then become the hero they need in *TES6 title here*

But that's not really necessary? A Hammerfell chapter in 2E really might not have any congruence with a Hammerfell chapter in another era, y'know.

Now, as for TES VI, we don't have any idea what era it might be set in (another thing that's a bit unsettling.... because it could be ANY era since we just don't have much info at all) - or what might be happening there.

What I personally want is for this to be the definitive "we MUST flee because Yokuda is drowning and we obviously can't breathe WATER!" as the prologue, with the arrival on Tamriel's mainland (with all the attendant sorrow, issues with shipwrecked people, and disturbed, distracted, sad and frantic people with little to no resources) as the main thrust of the chapter.... carving a place among those already IN place, hopefully without mass killing.... where diplomacy and some opportunism (the ability of the redguards to provide bodyguards, adept swordsfolk to protect the in place rulers and so on) might smooth the path somewhat.

And.... with some very poignant flashbacks to the glories of Yokuda in years now gone to memory amid the sadness and lamentations of displacement and a hostile new situation.

I don't expect that to happen. I gave up that dream a long time ago, as I really do not believe these devs can provide that level of immersion. I'm not sure that the current beth staff can do that either. I *think* the modding community can. And.... I really wish this entire game IP would go public domain so that can happen - because the modding community (outside of the "under the thumb" version firmly in place at this point - not here, but "elsewhere" in the overall IP) is far more likely to succeed with such a premise.

    Sad. SO sad.

Well you need to be pretty close. Players will rip apart if in ESO an area has a giant mountain range but in TES it’s flat land. In one there is a city but in another you got a canyon or empty desert etc. You can always explain away a city being bigger or a city, town, village in a different spot or even some stuff being missing because over hundreds or thousands of years things change. Hard to explain away landscape changes.

Players already rip apart how different and off Eastmarch is, I’m one of those.

It better be Winterhold... We've been waiting to see what it looked like before most of it had fallen into the sea.

If we were allowed to choose, for me it would be either Winterhold or Shivering Isles.

I picked up Oblivion long after it came out and it had the Shivering Isles dlc on the disc. I could not play it. I disliked the first quest so much that I just left the area and never went back. I didn’t even get very far.

I think BGS will be leading the way in introducing whatever land they are in. ZOS, if they choose to go to the same place, will follow at a later date. Even if they develop the zones concurrently, I still think that TES 6 will come first, ESO second. There is a lot riding on TES 6, given the problems with Fallout 76 and Starfield. BGS really needs a win. Badly. No one wants to see another Fallout 76 or Starfield when TES 6 arrives. They need the full WOW factor of a brand new, never before explored in detail, zone.

I do not think that BGS will get a win with TES 6. Based upon my experiences occasionally playing Fallout 76 this year on PS5, and what I have read about Starfield (not available on PS5), BGS has lost touch with what players want. I would enjoy "Fallout Online" that plays like previous Fallout single player games mixed with lessons learned from the Elder Scrolls Online, but BGS took a very different path with Fallout 76.

It reminds me of a later game I played called Broken Age. I got it free with PS+ and it was an adventure game. Sounds like it would be right up my alley, and I had read an article about how great it was. I couldn’t figure out how to get anywhere because the npc responses to solve their problems didn’t make any sense to me. I don’t think out of the box very well, though. I was expecting logical solutions. I just looked up the answers online in order to finish the game.

Probably some High Isle 2.0 but off the coast of Black Marsh.

If it has to be an island, why not Cybiades? That would be Hammerfell, according to UESP "it has a tropical coastal climate with a vibrant variety of plantlife", almost nothing is known about the place, and ZOS might have even already started to work on the map years ago, as the UESP article also states that this island was originally intended for the Thieves Guild DLC, which was then changed to Hews Bane instead.

But the fact they randomly added a statue to Sanguine, it may concern that prince in some way.

Randomly? It fits the wine theme of the whole zone, also, the statue/shrine had already been there in TES4:

I would put my chips on it being Winterhold/the rest of Skyrim as well.

That is likely the location with the least inherent risk and the greatest upside from a marketing/sales POV. It would also likely provide an opportunity to lure back lapsed players, as just about any Skyrim fan with an ESO account would be tempted to come back just to finally see what the College looked like in its heyday. Obviously, there would be a LOT riding on that Chapter release as it is one of the last, and certainly the most powerful, remaining nostalgia card available to be played.

I initially thought the same, but then again, I'm not sure whether it would have this effect a second time. It was certainly the case with Greymoor, but the Skyrim players who came then because they hoped ESO were very much like a "Skyrim with friends" probably have decided after that chapter whether they're content with ESO or not. Those who were content most probably stayed; the rest left again, and I'm not sure whether those will return once more. If they didn't really like Greymoor, I doubt it (or maybe the will log in and have a short look at Winterhold, but then leave again). Necrom also didn't have the same effect that Vvardenfell had.

Phrased slightly differently, I would say that Winterhold/Skyrim is the most obvious choice for like an overall "reboot" of ESO, to make a hard break from the malaise that many perceive to have set in.

But just doing the zone would not be enough. Like you say, there would have to be other large reforms/re-imaginings of the game, combined with likely another large system as well as popular quality-of-life improvements. All of those things together could likely get ESO a second-look from players who have fallen by the wayside since Greymoor.

Shivering Isles is probably the only other venue that provides a similar opportunity.
