How are we supposed to handle the bear's lightening breath?

Guides told me to face tank it - but it hit me more than 50k after blocking, seems scaled to my health and shield.

A teammate told me to dodge after it hits pillar, how does this work actually? Staying or blocking behind pillar did no effect.

So I can't block and can't dodge...?

Use immovable from the heavy armor skill line if you're not a sorc or bound aegis if you are, having max block mit makes a huge difference in HM. You also need healed by the healer. You don't need to dodge after it hits a pillar, not sure what that is about unless he's the one chasing you.

I'd check your resistances to make sure you're hitting resist cap because if you're dying in nonhm to the breath you might not have max resist (which is like 34k).

    about 28 or 30k, plus 30k health and 12k shield. S&B with 65% or 64 mitigation.

He always chases me and I can't rely on healer for burst healing. Problem is that the drop of health always happened so fast and I'm not sure if my own heal would help.

But it's only normal difficulty and I also need to do dps.

I spam heals during it. You don’t need to move as a tank in this boss fight. You can bring the boss to javelins but honestly, I just stand in one spot the whole time. I’d go for using immovable then. Don’t worry about damage, it’s better dps is lower and you don’t die.

Even with immovable, you can still roll if you have to.

    Thanks, I succeeded!

But only my warden with polar wind can do it. I checked the log and among 6 breath attacks, 3 of them were not blocked despite of my stamina. So I have to immediately raise the shield and spam polar wind, not ideal. Even so it was very close to death every time. Had 36k HP and the incoming attack was more than 45k.

Just keep healing tank through suffering damage, then no problem.

I had difficulty with this boss the other day too on my Arcanist tank. I was wearing Pearlescent armor, Master’s S&B (Puncturing Remedy), using three ward/shield skills, and of course blocking, also trying a side dodge part way through, but die every time unless I get an intensive heal. I’m wondering whether it’s a skill issue or if it’s designed to require either heals or an even tankier set up? A friend came in to help and tanked it no problem with their DK tank.

ERE is a pretty heal-intensive dungeon, a typical tank will need focused healing during the cone. If it’s HM, you really do need immovable. If it’s nonHM then spam healing/shields with a healer should work. You can also slot defensive skills like revealing flare and defensive posture. If it’s normal, then there’s probably something wrong with your build somewhere that’s making you not tanky enough, I haven’t actually ever done normal ERE so I don’t know what the damage is like in there, so could also be a healer problem.

For the hardmode you need a healer sticking on you.
In the normal veteran I can pass it easily with 1 block reduction glyph.
Im using pearl, crimson and archdruid so no selfish sets either.

The cone is not dodgeable. You must block through it. Any attempt to dodge it will just get you killed since you'll take unblocked ticks during the dodge roll.

On Hard Mode, I need the healer keeping heals on me AND I need to use the Bracing Anchor CP in order to survive (unless I'm on a DK with Magma Shell). So if the healer is dead and I see the breath happening on HM, I know I'm dead.

On regular vet, it's possible to survive without healer support, if I have Bracing Anchor and keep my own self-heals up.

ERE is one of the few dungeons where I need to slot Bracing Anchor (I usually avoid it because I prefer mobility).

Thank you all for the tips! And thank you, @code65536 for explaining why dodge roll is a bad idea there! I was thinking it would reduce overall damage to mitigate, but the ticks that go unmitigated more than negate that. I will slot Bracing Anchor next time.

This was on vet, and I was able to survive it with a heal or two. In the initial PUG group, I was fine with a few heals, but sometimes the healer was with the DPS or down at some points. I’m working on being more self-sufficient when I need to be, then it should be all the easier in an organized group. :)

Defeating the third secret boss is a huge bonus as it increases max health and reduces damage taken, my group did 3dps trifecta using that.
