Suggestion: Set Selectable Gear

This idea is inspired by two things: Master Crafting Stations and Guild Wars 2's legendary equipment, and intended to fix the problem of players wanting to hold onto dozens of set items and apparently not considering the sticker book a good way of doing that.

What if you could get gear pieces which work like the Master Crafting Stations: you feed set items of the same type into them and then you can select any of those sets and the items functions as that set piece.

So you get your Master Sword (ok that one would need a different name) or Master Axe or Master Helm or whatever, and at first it's just a generic gold tier item. Then you combine it with a Willow's Path Sword and a Green Pact Sword and a Necropotence Sword and then you can select any of those sets and the sword will become that set item. But you can only choose those sets until you obtain others and combine them as well. Eventually you could have a sword that can be any set in the game. Same for all the other items. Get a full set and you've got every set piece available to use, but only need to hold 1 of each item.

You would still need to obtain the relevant set item first, because you have to have one to combine with the Master item. This does not bypass that requirement and allow people to get sets they haven't earned. And like the Master Crafting Stations (and GW2 legendaries) the template items could be locked behind some base requirements and appropriately expensive and/or time-consuming to get.

That would give players who want them a long-term goal, and a solution to wanting to store dozens of set items just in case they become useful in future.

This would save far too much inventory space and disincentivize ESO+ and its extra bank space. I rather like the idea lol

This would remove the need for a constant supply of crafting and upgrade materials which would destroy half the economy of the server. Harvesting and getting materials from deconstructing is a major source of income for many players.

That was the idea behind stickerbook, you reconstruct a set you want to use right now, and when you need something else, you deconstruct it for transmutes and reuse them make a new set.

The OP idea is novel, good lateral thinking. I can't see it working because as others have said it would destroy a large part of the game's economy.

I would rather they just gave us more inventory space or at least more storage boxes that we could use (instead of only 4 large and 4 small). And allow Companions to carry their own gear.

The whole Inventory system needs an overhaul.

I was surprised to see that the inventory non-combat pets only give you another 5 slots per character. Quite woeful when you consider how many crowns it costs to purchase them.

I have maxed out all the bank and storage space available in the game and even with inventory insight, I would rather not be using my beloved characters as pack mules.

Is this an in-game ability, or just your way of expressing something you developed as a player? I've never heard of it, and, if the latter, I think you meant to say "hindsight".

Yes it is something I developed as a player, It's like a ZEN skill you get once you reach CP3600?

But in case you need more time to develop this ZEN skill it is also available as an add on:

I know, but going by the repeated topics on storage space that's not enough - players are still holding onto dozens of set items to save having to reconstruct them, so it seems like another option might be preferable.

I know the standard solution to that is "more inventory space" but I don't think that's actually fixing the problem, if anything it's adding to it because then there's more stuff to hold and sort and keep track of.

I don't think it would make a big difference, I doubt many people are regularly making crafted sets, then deconstruting them and making them again later on. Non-crafted sets don't cost materials anyway, even if you reconstruct them from the sticker book it only costs transmute crystals and maybe upgrade materials. I think most of the demand for crafting materials comes from people doing daily writs and master writs.

But ZOS will know in more detail and could make the 'master' template items require large amounts of materials to create, so it balances out. That's how Guild Wars 2 does it - you could make dozens of individual pieces for the cost of 1 legendary. I suspect many players don't make them at all, but it's a nice convenience option for the ones who do, who would otherwise be holding onto loads of spare gear.

Another idea would be if it is an item that you made and is bound to you. You get all the materials back if you decon the item.  This way, it would be no harm to make if you decide you don’t want or need the item anymore. This would also be a boon for console players who have no access to PTS to test on.

For me personally, the only reason I keep anything is so I don’t waste gold mats. Then, really, the only thing I generally keep is gold jewelry.

    Stay safe :)
