Wow...This is the PVP?

nosnibor1020b14_ESO
Well, I hit my VR1 last night. Playing modestly after work hours and enjoying the story line. I finally made my self made goal of opting out of PVP until I hit 50. No longer than a few hours in Cyrodiil did I get slightly disinterested and kind of disgusted at what PVP really was. Instantly in zone chat I noticed everyone talking about Vamp this and that and I didn't fully understand until I came across my first zerg encounter. I died pretty fast but I had a good lol at all the damn swarming bats. I am a WW and so I'm not too familiar with the Vamp line and what it does but you could tell something is wrong when a group 20-40 all have these darn bats floating around them.

Originally this wasn't going to be about the Vamp line but I believe that is the major problem. The Zerg exist because the fear of dying and having to travel back doesn't exist with that skill line. People can fearlessly push into a group of people knowing they can freely escape with no penalty.

Overall I am kind of upset with the PVP content. I was excited for such a huge zone and being a huge PVP player in past games that was about 50% of my interest for this game. Now that I have gotten a pretty good hand full of PVE content I was hoping to PVP a while before going back to PVE and honestly if it doesn't change I can't see myself keeping interest in the game anymore at all. Even if they ended up adding some kind of Arena or small battle zones that would be great but for the first time I am feeling disappointed with the game. I'm sure there are others like me and I'm sure the Vamp fankids that love the abilities and will flame.

The point is there is something extremely out of balance, and for the fankids the balance shouldn't be picking the Vamp line.

This game wasn't ready for retail release. It's as simple as that. They rushed it for release for the $$$!

Honestly I believe as far as PVE goes it was probably the best retail release I have ever played in a MMO. Doesn't mean bugs didn't exist but definitely better than others. PVP on the other hand still needs a lot of work from what I have seen so far. I played several of the beta test but never really got into PVP then. I'm sure with time it will polish up but it needs to be sooner rather than later. Maybe slow down the VR content and fix this first.

I agree they need to focus on the core game fixes and stop with adding more VR. This was an OK launch but I've seen many MMO's with much more polish than ESO had/has.

Okay name two recent big MMOs with more polish than ESO.

I'm a fan of ESO, including the pvp, but the launch of both Rift and Neverwinter were more polished.

do we really need more of those posts? vamps are getting nerfed tomorrow.

There is only one mmo I know of historically, and that's lord of the rings online. Otherwise, on release, this game was fairly successful compared to many of the others in the past.

Oh god, please don't start this kind of discussion, stop beating this damn dead horse.

To the OP, vampires are broken and are getting nerfed, you are kinda late to the "vampire hate" party

PVP at level 10 during pre-launch was the best. We were all on true equal playing fields, even those who were slightly higher then us. As time wen ton you still had a good time after launch, showing yo were able to kill another player who may have been 10 or so levels higher then you. Once the vampires hit the battle field it all seemed to become unbalanced. Its plain and simple, but I am confident there will be some balance brought to the PvP arena.

Vampire and WW should never of been such a big thing. They were always a side element in ES with a lot of drawbacks.

That's it, nothing but light and heavy attacks!
    No siege weapons either!

You talked about being in PvP last night, correct?
Well, this morning, they made it so you can't stack multiple bat swarms on top of each other.

Didn't you read the patch notes?

thats a shame it was your first impression . it goes to show how degraded pvp has become since beta and just after start. All my friends and I were thrilled with our first initial day of pvp, it was epic and fun, exciting, You felt like you were part of the grand design and desperately needed to hold the line.

hang in there, they might get it balanced right

    OP,

The Vamp line itself has nothing wrong (other then some passives not working) - the issue yourself and others have faced are DK's and Sorcs's abilities to reduce ultimate cost to near or at 0.

Unfortunately, everyone cried to momma about vamps in general instead of the actual issue at hand (which will not be fixed, and even further pushed via emphasis on ult reduction gear). But do not worry, Zenimax has decided to nerf vamps into the ground to make their work easier.

I was most surprised by the readiness of Ultimates. I've played since beta but I guess I always viewed ultimates in the same way as other games ultimates. In other games there was always a GCD on ultimates, but here there seems to be little difference between a regular skill and an ultimate. Between skills and gear we seem led into building our ultimates into rotation in both PvP and PvE. It almost feels like our ultimates are just the final chain in a series of attacks rather than a reserved skill that you save for that precious moment.

I'm a DK and I can charge at a person, drop standard of might and spam Burning talons, locking you inside the banner, until you're dead. You can roll out of it, but I'll just pop it again. I pressed a button and your pretty much dead. That isn't really what I would call PvP. That would be cool if it had a 1 hour GCD, but it won't really take too long before it's back up and you are dead again. I don't really need skill to do this just a small bit of patience until my ultimate is back up.

I would rather both PvP and PvE move away from an ultimate rotation. Let PvP be about the struggle between two opponents not a race to ultimate so you can destroy your opponent without proficiency. I would personally like to see a GCD on Ultimates, one that would make them a precious reserve rather than a commonality. Though since we only have 5 skills they should all come with a passive just as Flawless Dawn Breaker does. This I think would be a lot easier to manage than trying to bust up synergies. Synergies are emergent, you can't really fix a synergy without harming it's components which may be benign in isolation.

PvE kicked ass but I was in the same boat as the OP. I played through from 1 - 50 took my time. Didn't die once. Decided to try out some PvP and Vampire took on a 40 man raid and won. Well that made my enjoyment of the game die in one night.
I know people complained about this and we are going to "fix" the mass using of bat swarm but I really don't know if that's enough to make a lot of people whose first impression of PvP was so dire want to try it again.

So because you experienced one of the bad part of PVP your quiting? There is so much more to the PVP in Cyrodill than zergs and vamps. you can find small skirmishes everywhere if you don't follow the zerg. You can ambush in mnay places as well. You can explore and even do the pve quests form towns and do dungeons. All with the watch your back feel of pvp happening. Cyrodiil has everything. Don't count it out just because you didn't like 1 aspect. there is still a lot of balance that needs to be done but it will be.

I'm sorry your first PvP experience came at a heated time of vampire skills being changed.

I don't want to trivialize your experience as I think it is good you got some levels before trying to mash it out as a lvl 10 vs vets, but even being evenly matched there is still a learning curve on what skills you need to range, and what you need to rush for example the different types of bats, etc.

I have my reservations about things I want to be fixed, don't get me wrong. Some make me downright crazy at times (lag and weap swap--- this is life and death for me sooo much lol)... but all PvP should feel painful the very first time IMO. As long as it improves after each "learning experience" I tend to find it a decent challenge balanced with progression. Make friends and it becomes much more entertaining/rewarding IMO.
