Hardware Refresh Work Update – March 31, 2023

Last week during Maint. you did the XB NA server upgrades without any notice, Is this one going to give us the PS NA server upgrades too ?! So we can BOTH be on new hardware for the pvp event on Thursday !

The pattern of the past server upgrades has been 14 hours maintenance and only for the one affected platform.

Today’s maintenance is 9 hours for all servers, so logic dictates this is not the PS NA server upgrade.

Of course, ZOS could easily end speculation/forcing logical assumptions by actually stating updates.

I don’t suppose there has been an update on when the PS NA server upgrade will be beyond some time this month?

@DragonRacer We are close. We should have some news soon, but nothing to announce yet. We are still on schedule for this month. Today's maintenance is helping with this process as well.

@ZOS_Kevin Is there any update to share on the "code rewrite" or "server side hyperthreading" project that has been ongoing since late 2021/early 2022? We were told by @ZOS_GinaBruno that the first part of this project would release in Q2 with Necrom, and @ZOS_MattFiror said that they would be doing tests of these projects on the PTS as soon as they were able, but there is nothing anywhere about the projects in the PTS patch notes and we haven't received an official update anywhere since Gina had said we could expect the projects to begin releasing in Q2.

Any chance this 14 Hour Maint. Scheduled for Tomorrow is the Server Upgrades ?! I would hope so, based on the length & fact it happens in the middle of an event. Any info is Appreciated.

It was edited, at first it said "for server upgrade" or something like that. Not sure why they changed it.

If this is a server hardware upgrade today on PSN NA, not sure why they are being so secretive about it. They were that way with the recent XBOX upgrade, too.

@ZOS_Kevin can we please any any further updates on the Xbox EU upgrade. We've had a lot of players move over to NA as the event has been unplayable, even with 5 bars in cyrodiil.
Can you give an estimate month please from the development team? Thanks!

Also I don't know if you can answer this or not but has there been any talks of merging the Playstation & Xbox EU servers? Would this be possible? Or is there too many legal loopholes?

Hey there. No information to share currently about Xbox EU upgrades. We have let the various teams in charge of this that Xbox EU players are eager to get an update. However, when that information is available to share, we will post an update and also make note of it in this thread.

There have not been any talks of merging PlayStation and Xbox EU servers at this time.

No idea, I just got back on the game after a long break. I'm not seeing any official confirmation that the server upgrades were completed on PSN NA.

would it maybe be possible to share more insights into what needs to happen in the Frankfurt datacenter before Xbox EU can get the hardware refresh?

Also on the more important side of things: Are you guys aware that since the Whitestrake’s Mayhem occured the server performance in Cyrodiil on Xbox EU has gone down significantly?

Even with just 1 bar each the lag can get unbearable. Is that in any way related to the "additinal work"?

Also, we still don't have an update on Xbox EU refresh. Wanted to follow up that it is still happening, but we do not have any additional updates yet on timing. Work on the datacenters continues.

Xbox EU is nearly dead now... It is totally unplayable and we have unplayable lag during 1 bar each alliance... Good job Zos you killed our server because you never fix it, pretend it works okay when it doesnt and ignore it when their is obvious problems. What a joke.

Hi All, we wanted to update everyone regarding the remainder of the hardware refresh work. The work on Xbox EU is nearing completion and the hardware refresh will occur next week. We are doing the cutover during an extended maintenance on August 16 in Europe. The starting time is August 16 at 12:00am UTC (August 15 at 8:00pm EST) to the estimated end is August 16 at 3:00pm UTC (August 16 at 11:00am EST). Once the maintenance is complete, we will monitor the Xbox EU server performance. Thanks for your continued patience here.

Rip out old servers. Install new servers. Fifteen hours of maintenance on August 16 from midnight UTC to 1500 UTC.

Oh yeh I understood the long downtime but is it new servers or just a reboot or something? “Hardware refresh” is kinda ambiguous, could be digital (reboot) or actually physical
