The URL got partially merged with the page intro, I think. However the page I got differs in format from what was quoted (though still basically the same content).

Gawd I hope not. Maybe there'll be an actual improvement to customer service. Like accountability and getting feedback on how every ticket was handled.

Great job widening the chasm of choice for consumers. Look forward to the further deterioration of performance on the platforms that are not directly tied to MS.

I wonder what that means for the next Elder Scrolls Game? Will that become xbox / PC exclusive? Hope not. But I might wait with buying a next gen console till that is clear.

I just really hope that Microsoft understands things like mods and addons and creation kit and the community around TES games. Imagine them banning the creation kit or something?

Frankly I don't see them making TES6 exclusive, even temporarily.

Then again I would not be very happy about all this if I were playing on PS.

Yes, they seemed to have failed to mention this in their livestream.

Microsoft is known for killing games it’s acquired as well as other programs. I don’t like this deal. It will indeed mean the end of TESO.

Every game I’ve played that was acquired by another company died. Good example, Trion Worlds (Defiance, ArchAge, Rift, Trove) was sold to Gamigo, a company that makes mobile and browser games. Since the acquisition in 2018, they have not updated the games with any bug fixes, content or anything else. The population has dropped significantly.

This is exactly how I believe Microsoft will treat TESO. Furthermore, with Bethesda being part of the acquisition, this implies that TES6 will not be a Playstation exclusive. This is Microsoft sticking it to Sony and the player base will suffer for it.

Items in loot boxes can always be earned through play. All items available through paid loot boxes in our games will also be available through unpaid opportunity by gameplay (i.e. grinding).
This line is very interesting, this would mean lootbox changes are coming, since not everything in these boxes can be earned in-game. But this also means the game would be made into a major grindfest, maybe ruining the essence of ESO.

    Interesting indeed!

When Microsoft acquired Minecraft they invested greatly in it. It went from strength to strength, bigger now than it ever was.

Microsoft have been incredibly consumer friendly in their approach to the game market as of late. They have supported crossplay wherever possible, they host dedicated, high quality server infrastructure for all Microsoft studio games, they support the pro scene in many of their studios games also.

The pricing on the Xbox game pass, and amount of content therein is actually incredible. I firmly believe that this is a great thing for a company that actually cares about quality, to acquire these titles from a company that started down a road of milking its most popular titles *cough* Fallout 76 *cough*.

Banning mods would kill TES games. Let's face it, Beth games are mediocre at best. Not bad, entertaining enough, but nothing all that special on their own, and suffer from bad writing and glitchy systems. It is the ability to tweak and shape your gaming experience to your liking that gives those games their relevancy and staying power.

That freedom in turn fuels the community around those games and in turn creates a legion of ardent fans that in turn support things like ESO. This game had a rocky, rocky, rocky launch. And without the power of the Elder Scrolls brand, I highly doubt it would've made past those first couple of years.

I think that most know this, including people working for the companies involved. But it is always a possibility that some higher up corpo dimwit does not realize this, and that such a stupid move could be forced on the brand. But that has always been a risk though. Not like the people in the upper echelons of ZeniMax itself strike me as particularly games savvy.

If it does happen, then it just means that the next TES game will fail. IT will still do okay, but wont be selling new copies 10 years after launch as the earlier games did. And that some other company is eventually going to step forth and fill the void for mod supporting games. There is too much money to be made in such games for someone not to try. It's not, you know, like FIFA or GTA levels of money, but still way too much for there to be no one trying to cater for said customer base. At the moment, Bethesda has cornered that market somewhat, but that might change in the future. All it really would take is for someone to come out with a game that ran on a modern engine, and was designed from the ground up to support mods, instead of just tolerating and exploiting their existence as Beth has done.

I'm not particularly tied to the TES brand, and if a better modding platform should emerge, will have no problems switching ships.

I would imagine chances are higher that Elder Scrolls 6 and future titles will be a Xbox/PC exclusive. That may even apply to an Elder Scrolls Online sequel, if/when that day happens.

Microsoft ruined many companies they have bought...
Anybody still remember proud companies like Lionhead, Nokia Mobile or Skype?

Microsoft does not know how to innovate things anymore.
They even are ruining Windows lately with buggy patches and crappy UIs.

Bethesda, could be you think about selling to Apple instead of Microsoft pls?
I am certain Apple would be thrilled of a purchase if you would offer one.

    Isn't it impressive ?
Some guys who started programming games about 25 years ago in some backroom... and now it sells for 7.5 billions USD.
That's "the american dream". And I say that as an EU citizen :-)

And that's partly thanks to us. I know, Bethesda made TES3, TES4, TES5... Fallout... Dishonored... etc.. but the star product and cash cow of Zenimax Media currently is certainly mostly ESO.

unfortunately the guy who did that was put out to pasture long ago so your idea is false and still a dream.
