Should both gender toons have access to the same hairstyles?

I personally don't understand why certain hairs are restricted to one gender or the other. I mean I've seen some really long hair a friend has on her toon and yet on my toon I don't have access that hair due to the gender. And as someone who actually has very long hair I would like more long hair styles for male toons.

There are some gender specific hairstyles I've checked through the list of them you can actually buy the whole set of standard ones for toons to switch without using an appearance change token and there are some that are restricted to gender. Like this one

    Oh right, skeever monetization.

I mean, I only create male characters, and I prefer to only use "male" hairstyles on my character, but it certainly wouldn't bother me at all if hairstyles were treated as gender neutral.

A lot of the later crown store styles are available for both genders but the original ones that we can select in character creation were not. I wish they would update them because there are plenty that would work, either way.

That's actually a unique hairstyle that we don't have. But we should :p

Remove gender restrictions on hairstyles and release those damn hairstyles we keep seeing on npcs but never get. Like Veya/Velsa's, the Short Mussed Wave, Zeira's and on the list goes.

I mean nightmarish and horrifying are already options in the game so that's a bad counter argument.

Personal opionion? Yes. This is something I would use but even when it's not I'm all for more character customization option and the removal of arbitrary barriers such as gender lock.

    Hey folks,

We wanted to reach out and let you know that we appreciate the feedback provided in this thread and it has been passed along to the proper team.

As @heaven13 brought up, only the hairstyles we originally launched with are like this, and all later hairstyles are gender-neutral. Future hairstyles will continue to be gender-neutral as well.

NPC has some benefits like some outfits who is not for players, like dark shaman skirt with an ledgerman shirt.
We also have the mysterious tail turf who showed up on an Khajiit in clockwork city, he then lost it and it showed up on an new Khajiit at the Solitude docks. This one suspect its an daeric artifact.

This sounds cool. There are some nice hairstyles that would be great to swap over.

Speaking of hairstyles though, you're mentioning future ones as well. Is there a chance we'll finally get to see Short Mussed Wave/Unruly Bangs/any of the NPC only styles to come out? Not to mention some of the other styles that were available but haven't been offered in the Crown Store for over a year. I know there are plenty of people ready to buy crowns for those...

I agree it would make sense for all hairstyles to be gender neutral. I can't see any logic to the ones which are restricted, it certainly doesn't follow the current Western stereotype that men have shorter hair styles and women have longer ones. Especially when you include the elves.

My male dark elf's default hairstyle is "coil with long fall" which is one of the longest styles available to players, while my female nord used to use 'bedhead bob' which is one of the shortest styles that isn't completed shaved (a shaved head is also an option for female humans and elves). Even male humans can have a pony tail, women can have a short mohawk or bob and everyone except argonians can use the 'long full dreads' style.

It's just that in amongst all that variety there are a few, seemingly random, styles which are restricted to specific genders and/or races (elves, khajiit and argonians generally seem to have more gender neutral options than humans).

What bothers me is that I can’t wear the new crown crate hats with my White River Braids. I’m wearing an antler hat with them now, why can’t I wear a tam? It makes my character look bald.

There's absolutely no reason for certain hairstyles to be gender-locked like they are. Race locked, maybe, and even then only for Argonians, and maybe a few for Khajiit that are more like manes. But gender-locked? It doesn't make any sense, considering male characters can wear dresses and makeup. Why can't they have female hairstyles? Why can't they have access to all the jewelry? Women can wear pants, which for a long time was considered taboo in a lot of places (and heck, still is in a lot of places), why can't they have the male hairstyles? Honestly none of the cosmetics in this game should be gender-locked, even the facial hairs; plenty of women irl have facial hair, for whatever reason.
    Nope. They should not.
Lolwhy? There is legitimately no reason for it. You can't claim it's model differences between the male and female models, because most of the vanilla hairs are gender neutral and can be used on both models. I really doubt there's such a huge difference between the head rigging that some of the hairstyles just 'wouldn't work' for both genders. Also, it's not like irl there's anything other than culture keeping a man or woman from wearing their hair a certain way, and considering it's not race, but gender, that these vanilla hairs are locked by, that's not an argument for it either.

When he says gender-neutral I don't think he means no hairstyles that are like...more 'common' on a man or woman, but that he means no hairstyles in the future will be locked by gender like some of the vanilla ones currently are.

Yeah, i agree. There is no reason for any of it to be gender locked it's your toon you should be able to make it however you want from what options there are regardless of gender.
