Dupe cheat = ruined in-game economy, what is your plan?

Since the duplication bug has been exploited to death and the in-game economy pretty much ruined I want to know, as a paying subscriber how you are going to fix this issue for us legitimate players? I don't want to pay for a literally broken game even if up to this point I've been a hardened supporter.

See here for discussion about this terrible problem.

No, unfortunately I don't think you are realizing the seriousness of the issue. I'm all for taking things calmly and not making too big of a deal of these kinds of things, believe me. This one is bad, really bad, even for someone like me who doesn't like to overreact.

I play the game casually, I really don't care... and I don't see any effect on me. I'll still be able to gather materials while deconstructing my stuff. No problem.

I play relaxed as well, and yes right this second I won't be affected by this issue but the game's health as a whole will be. I don't want to invest in a game that is broken to the core and is going to collapse on top of itself in the short term.

That Reddit post needs to be reposted here, and so here it is! This is ANOTHERS reddit post. http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/23bxmi/banning_is_not_enough_the_far_reaching_impacts_of/

With the word about the exploit being out, it's time to address how it exploits should be addressed.

I personally am in favour of blanket permabans for those that duped over a low-threshold of items- say, 5-10 - with the availability for people that dupped under 20-25 able to appeal for a live-person review of their case to see if it was an accident etc. ("No, duping resin 20 times in a row is not an accident.")

However, what is to be done from all the people that have benefited from the exploit, even if they themselves didn't "dirty their hands"? There are people now running around in full legendary that didn't dupe a single item but knew about the glitch. They struck while the iron was hot, getting the mats they needed for insanely low prices. Now they're out in pvp and will likely be our Emperors in Cyrodiil for months and months to come. How will this be fixed?

Should Zeni remove all the gold/epic crafting mats from the game by changing the upgrade recipes and making the current gold items worthless vendor trash? I, even with measly stockpile of 8 Kuta runes and 1 temper, think so. If they leave the duplicated items in, my gold materials are worth pennies anyway.

As for the mats already used: Should Zeni revert all epic armor and weapons to blue? Consider how many people got full legendary legitimately vs how many haven't. It would suck to be "one of the few" that did it the legit way but this is a numbers game. What will hurt more, leaving exploiters and their beneficiaries unpunished or punishing a few innocents? What will cost them more subscriptions? Individuals that got their armor unjustly reverted can open tickets but we can't open tickets that will magically restore our faith in the game. Zenimax NEEDS to come down on the side of being TOO HARSH. That is the only way I will retain interest and feel that legitimate players have a chance to succeed in this game.
    tl;dr:
-Make the items worthless vendor trash that sell for 0.
    -Introduce new green/blue/purple/gold crafting materials.
-Convert all current legendary armor to blues with players able to appeal for CS review to see if they did it with legit mats or not. (if that is impossible, then too bad. -All golds should become become blues without exception.)
    -Remove ill-gotten money.
-Don't let the exploiters and their beneficiaries win.

I don't believe a economy exists in this game.
No item decay = No economy
It is just an arms race to V10 Legendary Equip, followed by the nxt if a new tier of equipment is released. (Dupers apparently won the arms race for now.)
No gold sink can stop this (item)mudflation.

Still cheaters have to be banned, i just dont believe in the impact on a non-existing economy.

Pretty glad I am playing this like a single player game at the moment, but it does become frustrating when I hear people in PvP talk about how they got all legendary sets with legendary enchants bought for 600k gold while I'm here looking at my VR blues...

I'm really surprised such a simple dupe exploit could exist and this just gives me more appreciation for devs (like those who built City of Heroes - RIP, 10 year anniversary in 10 days) who build/built very effective server side systems that calculate everything and simply push information to the client.

I'm playing very casually in TESO, but Zenimax really has to communicate clearly how this was handled if they want to regain trust. Something along the lines of "today we banned x accounts and eliminated x gold from the economy due to this exploit") and continue to do that in order to rebuild some credibility.

    What economy?

VR10 in full legendary here. I never traded, never duped. I just gathered nodes and farmed plenty of wolves for wax.

It takes about 5h to 6h of dedicated farming to get enough legendary mats... When more players reach VR10 legendary mats won't cost anything, be it dupe or legit. It's just too easy to get mats. If you run low on mats, you're obviously doing it wrong.

Converting legendary to blue is a Idiotic idea, all the epics obtained in dungeons and crafted legitimately turned into rares lower than their drop quality. Also the current legendaries aren't the problem it's the materials that are in rotation since all endgame weaponry and armour will be obsolete when Craglorn comes out soon.
Also people are spending all the gold they have to buy from these exploiters so if you were to remove all the materials they'd be essentially broke which they will find hard to replace since the people buying them have mostly done their quest lines to get their gold.

Pretty much, once the exploit is fixed I'd give it two-to-three weeks before the in-game economy bounces back. The ideal part of the economy is based on gold accumulation from the world (drops and quests) so once you remove the exploit that screws this up, it'll slowly recede. Don't buy things that are overpriced unless if you have the money for it, at which point you purchase at your own risk.

If they do its probably because this is like the 10th I've seen about this exact topic. In fact when i posted here 2 lines down was a larger thread about the same thing.

ya know, since the first day of game I watched exploiters and sighed. Within a couple of days alot of players were at end game, had bought all upgrades to inv and mounts and were paying outrageous sums for in game items on trade.

It bummed me out. Only in pvp does it affect me directly tho, tho in some dungeons your starting to see some elitist crap but that goes with all mmos. Im much happier now that i have zone chat turned off, except when i need to group and I dont pvp anymore except for entertainment sake.

cheaters and losers will always be present, but this game has been *** by the gold farmers and those that cater to them and now this *** exploit. all this does is wreck the game. the gold farmers annoy the legit players who leave, the gold buyers get all the goodies quick and then get bored and then leave cuz there are no updates for them to do, then bad mouth the game everywhere. pvpers get tired of the imbalance and leave. what you end up with is a game that cant make its quarterly cost expectations and is forced to go micro trans. want more bank space? cost ya 20 bucks. want that fast mount in green color? twenty bucks. want fast travel? twenty bucks. want the latest leet gear? twenty bucks in a random drop box chance only....

    screw it

Well, in my honest opinion, any items duped can be traced and removed from the game, so that's not a problem, just time consuming.

After that, I would be banning everyone and anyone who abused it, obviously people who might of accidently done and gone, hmm that's odd and then just carried on should not be banned, but those who went hmmm, I see $$$$ should be perma banned.

Keep sleeping and thinking that everything is ok. When people one-shot you in Cyrodiil or kick you from the party because they are full in legendaries and you don't have enough, don't come back complaining.

PS: These people trade directly. They are not dumb enough to be flagged by 500 people in a trading guild.

GW2 actually had a similar problem back with the economy was very volatile. It's gotten by decently enough. Reviews are definitely necessary but people who are actively going around and intentionally exploiting should be banned (Temporarily within the time span of maybe six-to-eight months).

every game has its cheaters, ban them, no exceptions, granted everyone that bought the game has the right to play a game the way they find fun. But, no one is currently paying a monthly yet, and its pretty easy to see just who exploited what, simple program, ban them.
