    Nice article!

I like how we could basically start off with a hovel kind of home. Wish there was an option for a couple of rooms just off the sewers or down a well, or an old beaten up abandoned looking house with squeaky floorboards.

This is a super helpful article! Thank you!

I understand we all want to jump in and decorate, but I hope people can temper their expectations slightly. MMOs take time and this is a huge new feature. In a few months guild stores will be flooded with recipes and people will be able to make a great deal.

My only wish is that they do take PTS feedback into consideration and up the drop rates of the new crafting mats/lower overall mat cost for most furniture items.

"You’re in for a grind. A lengthy one...."

This quote from your article pretty much sums up my disappointment of housing.
I already have enough grind. I have the CP point grind, the undaunted grind, the mage guild grind, the mount training grind, monster set farm grind, ect ect
To me, housing should be a fun relaxing thing you do on the side when you need a break from dungeons or questing. With only a couple hours to play a day and my time already used up with all the above other activities, I don't think ill have the time to do the furniture grind as well. Thanks for the article it helps give some idea of what to expect. I have a feeling my home will remain mostly unfurnished lol.

Looks like there will be plenty of new things to sell as I've got no interest in making the actual furniture itself.

It is a grind if you want to do it yourself, but it also stimulates the economy. This means people who dedicate themselves will create furnishings, and there will be a heavy market for them. I don't think it's a perfect system, and I agree there is a grind, but I like that it basically forces more economic churn.

I agree, its not a bad system but for a casual player it feels a little overwhelming at how much is required just to put furnishing in your home.

honestly, first 24 hours after patch will be clean-up of stuff holding on to - like surveys - chests maps etc. However, that will come after gathering intel like crown store prices and the like.

Typically i look at the first WEEK of a post-patch period, not the first day because of time for analysis and crowding. I figure by the first clean-up patch after a major patch, i should be in good position to make significant advances..

You and me both. I'd love a rundown old hovel, would have suited my characters just fine. Something akin to Dreughside outside Wayrest.

Great article, btw. Very useful. Might just about complete a small furnished house by 2018...

So you'll spend months furnishing the house yourself, or you'll need to buy a pre-furnished house from the Crown Store (since I assume you can't buy pre-furnished with Gold).
I can only imagine how long it'd take to furnish the 3 huge "mansion" sized houses by hand XD

Yep there are quite a few coffins and urns, and even a skull or two. Could easily make a tomb/vampire lair or a haunted house or something.

No cobwebs. Good idea. There are coffins - wooden and stone. There are also a variety of skulls that you could assemble into a pile of your choosing.

The truth is, unless you are willing to spend lots of real money in the Crown Store, housing is a long term project that will require much dedication to the newly added furniture crafting system or large amounts of gold to purchase furniture from players who are mastering the craft. Those who are Crown Store averse will take weeks or months to fill their house with exactly the items they want. /

    Excellent!

That is exactly what is needed, this is a MMO after all, and MMOs are designed to be played for years, not weeks or months. Having waited for the best part of 3 years for player housing, what would be the point of it if the best houses could be bought and fully furnished through crafting or trading straightaway?

Surely the point of housing is that you start as a new player with a free inn room, which you begin to furnish as you go along, and as you advance further through the game so you upgrade to better housing and improved furnishings. Meanwhile, as housing isn't P2W in any sense at all because it's a purely cosmetic feature, there's an opportunity for those who wish to do so to throw vast amounts of money at the Crown Store with the aim of getting everything instantly, thereby providing a great source of revenue to the game's ongoing development without impacting on the integrity of the game in any way.

    Sounds win/win to me!

I don't mind a grind, if there is a reason for it and the grind is worth the effort. With ESO, I get the impression that the purpose of the grind is to save a few Crowns. So, at the end of 1 gazillion hours of grinding, I get what everyone else purchased with $4 worth of Crowns.

But, in general, I am ok with grinds that matter.

    @code65536, you are correct.

Everyone (all players) should hold on to their crafting surveys from their writ turn-ins ... since Update 13 will add the new furniture crafting mats (heartwood, regulus, bast, etc.) as soon as the patch drops.

However, there is no housing impact with regards to chests or treasure map locations. Though some players will hold on to their Craglorn treasure maps ... in hopes of the small chance of a Ra Gada motif page dropping at those locations.

This is not entirely true. The only known source for Painting furnishings for your house is to find them inside treasure chest. From the 2.7.1 patch notes:

Added paintings to treasure chests found in the world. They're rare! If you find one, cherish it. Or don't!

The plan for the skeleton can only be purchased using writ vouchers from the new Mastercraft Mediator for 125 WV. You'll also need an Animus Stone for the recipe. This is also bought from the same merchant for 25? writ vouchers and is needed for each skeleton.
