ZOS, are we ever going to get such a Cyro as it was in the trailer from 2014????

This trailer was created before the indie developer called ZOS realized that an MMO without any kind of anti-cheating measures is a terrible idea.

I think it's a good trailer, it's a pretty accurate representation, including battles at the bridge and heroic DK leap

Even if they fixed the lag, PVP is ruined by giant groups where everyone is running OP builds. Elder Sets Online is already dying. Just see how many of the original players have left. I play still, but on a cheesy bomber because that's the only way left to play solo. Gotta be stealthy and able to wipe 10+ people or get run down by the zerg.

It's being ruined by the macro slicers too. They throw the kitchen sink at you, by insta-casting every ability on their bars, which allows them to kill other players with weapon attacks and 5-6 skills, all going off in 1.5 seconds, and if you are really lucky you might have time to cast one spell. And that's only if the macro slicer does not have the really good armor sets.

The procs off of armor sets makes these macro slicers that much more of a game destroying aspect to this already buggy game. It was bad enough they can insta-cast so many spells and skills so quickly, now their armor is adding to this unworkable game mechanic.

Unfortunately it can get very laggy on console when there are more than 60 people near you. Sometimes when the Zerg V Zerg gets intense you can even feel the latency on the other side of the map. Regardless of you not being close to the action.

We don't have bots, or any sort of macros on console. I think that the game simply can only handle so much (a small amount at that) before everyone and their mom starts having a 3-5 second delay on everything and rubber banding across the map.

Give us a campaign where AoE caps, Champion Points, Heavy Armor, Undaunted Sets, and non-crafted armor/weapons are disabled.

Pretty sure this would create an interesting skill-based campaign with little lag (even during large battles). That is..... if people would even bother playing it since PvP has turned into a game of Procs and one shots.

It'd be fun to try at least :)

That's what PvP used to be like back in 2013!

We had epic battles with hundreds of players at the same keep and no lag.
And that was with full effects showing for everyone and Cyrodill even had deer (gasp)!

Pretty much what I was about to say lol!
PvP had its time in the lime light, it was so short lived and so long ago that it seems like it was a dream. There was a time when literally hundreds of players could be and were in the same place fighting amazing epic battles. Back then we didnt complain about zergs, we welcomed them. It was a beautiful time but lost to us now. I dont know if they can ever fix it and make it the epicness it was once. Which is heartbreaking because the Cyro now is so lame compared to the Cyro then.

I remember the very first time I stepped into Cyro, followed a huge mass of friendlies wondering where they were going, then all of a sudden we came up over a hill and the sight of the enemy mass was... glorious. There had to have been at least 100 of them, maybe more, it was so overwhelming! Ofc I ended up dying but I will never forget that, never forget what Cyro was once capable of and it saddens me beyond words.

I found it funny watching the fight on the bridge where everyone was standing flat footed... not moving but just attacking 1 person in front of them. Reminded me of turn based strategy games.

Idk, if you look closely enough you can tell its lagging in this trailer, there's a reason they only show that mage shooting his fire staff from the tower for only a split second, cause of abysmal fps. and u can see the frame drop when they are flashing really fast through the battle montage there... and all the ability's going off while breaking the wall of the keep...laggin hard in this video lol....

Some of the most memorable moments were had when running into a 100+ group of enemies in the open field.

Dear ZOS, while I enjoy PVP now pretty much, I mostly played PVE so far, now starting to play PVP too a bit, on a non-vet character, I keep reading posts from long-time PVPers, that the lag and slide shows are many times really bad, loading screens really long, FPS low, ping high, which is really sad, as (even if many say it is unbalanced), PVP is still great fun!!!

So my serious question for the ESO devs: Will we ever get such a huge mass-scale battles in Cyro with no lag as it was shown in this trailer from 2014???
Because if not, it is really sad and kind of unfair, that you hyped people with that trailer, but more than two years from the release of that trailer and you still did not give us what you have promoted...

That video was obviously staged which isn't too surprising for an official trailer.

There is another one out there (haven't seen it in a while) that ZOS recorded during one of the "Meet the press" beta weekends that had all real battles in it.
That was only staged in that ZOS GMs would tell everyone what keep to attack/defend and then they recorded the battles.

I'm sure it's still on YouTube somewhere ...

I don't know.. had some pretty big battles just the other day on pop-locked Trueflame (PC-EU) - with all 3 factions fighting over a scroll in the open.

There were players as far as you could see - with more over every hill, behind every rock - didn't notice any lag.

The problem really is AoE caps. There is so much sorting that needs to be done based on distance from player that this severely taxes the server. What i learnt in my 1st year in a computer science degree is that sorting can be very slow.

Consider a 24v24 battle where they are all stacked on crown. If every person used a PBAoE (such as impulse), you would have:
1 player generating a list of 48 players (24 ally, 24 enemy). You remove allies and SORT this list of enemies based on distance from that player).
You then apply calculations for dmg to that list of 24 and then dish out the dmg in the game.

So for this 24v24 battle, you are generating 48*48 = 2304 elements (per impulse per 48 players) which you need to go through, eliminate allies and SORT based on distance.

If you remove AoE caps, you have a huge amount of overhead being removed which means calculations are sped up and lag is reduced.

That video is very smooth and has no lag because no one is using AoE. It's all single target which is easy to deal with. Wrobel is crippling PvP because of AoE caps for god knows what reason.
