I have your spell damage but close to half your magicka and i have hit for 7.5k ( no idea how) but top tier wrecking blows crit me for less than 5k so you might just be hitting heavily armored opponents. I think in this case it might be mitigation that is stubbing your pototential hit. We don't have any passive weapon penetration like stamina does with maces, staff pen is sadly only for staff abilities so all we have is LA, if you can bear it, and weapon trait.
Not to say whip doesn't currently have a damage problem, but just to explain why the damage is so surprising in your very high dps build.

With SnB do you suggest running more into penetration vs spell crit? Right now I run 100 elem. dmg, 57 spell crit, and 10 spell pen.
Its not just a matter of buff this and nerf that you guys.
Lots of passives need tweaks, compared to other classes (Nbs getting more regen passively, Templars gaining major mending etc), mDks need to be very thoroughly thought through and done correctly.
I still have some hope that Zenimax will make a light armoured mDKs very good and competitive to other light builds, same for heavy builds...but only time will tell.
ps: I really think Zeni should change the GDB and Coagulating blood to make it similar to Vigor but magicka based (as a tank, it sure would be nice to have some sort of aoe group heal indeed), but thats my opinion.
