I don't understand the fascination with watching others play video games

I have a friend thats in hospital alot due to some operations and he like to watch streams.
I personal watch streams sometimes while eating or before I go to sleep when Im too tired to play myself and just want to watch instead. Someone just likes to have a streamer in the background on another monitor or something, while playing themself.
I also go and watch streams of games Im wondering if worth trying out.

It's an indication of how this game is doing. If there is less than 500 viewers overall in a Friday night, then i can pretty much say that this game is on a decline. I remember when there was easily over 1000 viewers every single night last year and 600 this year till fengrush stopped constantly streaming eso a month ago. But hey what do i know the developers are the smart ones. Player retention is "top notch". Now we can't even get 300 on a friday night. People on twitch will see eso with only 260 viewers right now and will assume that this game is dead. Any person with half a brain can obviously see that this is not a good sign for eso's advertisement and player wise.Asherons_Call wrote: »Who cares, why not log in and play yourself?

About caring for twitch viewers in regard to the game's well being:
- The popular ESO twitch streamers that earn money on ESO streaming are all pvp players.
- ESO is in TES universe with a huge established fanbase already of players used to play pve and sigleplayer games, roleplayers and lore addicts.

I don't get it. Watching somebody else play video games. What is the lure?
