Sky had a problem in Warwick area that spanned a part of this but the issue is not down to your ISP unless you are in that area. Even if you are you would have two problems, your local ISP issue and the wider issue ZOS are facing.
DDoS attacks are nasty *** and where I was frustrated that I could not spend my time playing the game that I enjoy last night I fully understand what ZOS are faced with and will stick behind them on this one.

You don't just DDoS a big gaming company and expect to get away with it lol at the very least they will upgrade their protection, which would cost more money which in turn could actually require them bolster their sales even more. Or it just means somebody's randomly DDoS'ing game server again. Heck they might not even be targeting the game and it could be just someone picking a random IP address to screw with.
DDoS attacks on large server farms are a fairly regularly occurrence, and most of them aren't planned or premeditated, most of them are literally someone thinking "hey let's see if this works, that IP address looks like a good target".0 -

i know I couldn't get the undaunted daily finished yesterday. DPS rubber banding all over the shop. also i hate the rat boss in wayrest sewers, it should be easy, and when you cant do it even when its an easy mechanic its more annoying than failing on something that is actually hard.

With a little Google Luck they can find bot nets for hire easily.
Therefore A data center worthy of the name has defenses in place.
Why did it take so long to investigate this? I assume that Zenemax dont own the datacenter in the EU, hence they should not be the ones asking for information from users about what their ISPs are etc
What the hell were the data center staff doing? And if its not manned 24/7 what kind of crappy monitoring kit are they using?
A DDoS is pretty obvious when its going on.
Im assuming this Data center is the same as many ive worked with. Some guy close to the company with a few quid sold them a "data center" and then filled a room with racks and a bit of cooling then put an add on jobserve for staff who know what to do with the stuff.

Actually they can randomly attack any server anywhere, I've looked at the coding of some of the Trojans this kind of attacker uses, most of them have an IP/port cycler in the code, they basically cycle through the numbers until they hit a combination of IP and port numbers that responds to them, then they transmit that IP/port to the rest of the Trojan network and that's when the DDoS starts. On the other side of things large data center IP's are pretty public, all they have to do is connect to that IP and sniff each of the ports one at a time until they get the correct response then hit a command to transmit the attack. A DDoS is a very basic and simple thing to do, unless you're targeting specifics you don't need to know IP's and ports, you just set the program running and it find them for you.2
