So what you have a membership? Yes, you pay for the game and the few extra's it gives you and before you start complaining about me also: I have a membership too!
This is the first time I have seen a 'real' problem with the servers.
Yes, sometimes there is a lagg while PvP'ing or in dungeons, but nothing that hasn't been fixed.
Maybe you should be glad there has been a hardware and software update and that Gina and 'her' crew are doing everything they can to get the servers up and running smoothly again. That might even prevent this from happening in the future.
I bet other online games wouldn't be so fast and wouldn't even respond to our nagging and complaining in the forum.
Gina and crew, you are doing a good job. Keep up the good work and may there be a newbie who is bright enough to solve the problem and get a raise!

They can be controlled. Reaction time of banning IP causing excessive traffic can be less than minute, depends on logic. Banning whole network branches, banning proxies, banning anonymous DNSs etc. Its not the first company suffering from this. Seems other can do it. There will be collateral damage perhaps, but at least it will not ruin their business(bcs it does severe damage to it) and fun of the players. You do know DDoS are out of their control?
Went through this playing gw2. Both NA & EU were knocked out. Severe lag, followed by disconnects until until no one could log on.

Ofc, its not that simple and not the final measure, but it will definatelly limit desire, will and actual damage done by those who are doing it.
