As a skilled pvper, i didnt stand a chance vs 1K cps

Bodybuilder
I''m a fairly skilled pvper in Eso.

Met this guy with 1k cp''s, had to go fully defensive.
I couldnt put damage on him at all, maybe like a few curses (im a sorc)

Ok, do you have a problem with that?

Whats your stats and build? (im just curious)

How skilled was your opponent? Are you saying despite your skill and his lack of skill he defeated you? How many times have you ran into this?

Oh and what was his build?

He didn't. He just got his butt handed to him and assumed "it must be all the cps!"
  • Bodybuilder
I asked him after he had killed me how many cp''s he had, (he had 982)

I am a Magica sorc, my offensive bar: mages wrath, c. frags, curse, (BoL at that time aswel), Magica deto
and i had mines on my defensive bar. (and 3 wards, entropy obv)

not that this matters since i was fully defensive anyways.

he was a stamina dk, using mostly melee abilities (caltrops to negate my mines)
and duel wield abilities i think. he was stabbing me hard v.v

I just came across a level 19 PvPer in a non vet campaign that had some crazy champion points. Guy was dual blade night blade yet had this magic looking shield up and couldn't damage him. More I tried the more that got reflected to me. Kind of a no skill combo when looking at the champion points if you can just spam block for riposte and reinforced.

I'm not suggesting that it isn't a real issue. I've seen the math that shows the obvious difference that a large CP imbalance can make.

I'm simply suggesting that "the CP issue" has become the standard excuse for every person that loses a fight in PvP.

Just wait till they release the non-vet no CP points campaign that way you won't have to worry
about players with lots of CP points....if they really wanted a challenge they would go play with their
VET campaign buddies and be on an equal playing field but I guess that's too hard for them.

Funny thing is after 360 cps there is less than 4% gain to 1000 in anything...

True but at 982 points, (as the op responded to confirm), that means over 300 in each.

300 in each will give 15-20% bonus to physical damage, 15-20% bonus to shock damage reduction, 15-20% bonus to stam cost reducton or regen, 15-20% bonus to self-healing or potions.

So, that DK had 15-20% more damage, 15-20% more resistance and 15-20% more healing than the OP (assuming that the OP has none).

    that is quite a difference.

@Bodybuilder , how many CPs do you have?

Honestly, from what you said about yours and his build, what happened is exactly what that face off entails.

You being magicka sorc (im assuming low stamina, light armor) means your only defense against melee is your wards. He being primarily melee and stamina is your weak point. Using his abilities probably ate up your spells.

I have came across such builds in my pvp time, Im going to guess that had the fight dragged on and you had enough defense to out last his initial devastating blasts, he wouldn't have been able to keep that up.

My example is against such players (atm i am thinking of a nb) Once that initial onslaught begins im casting my wards and healing and doing little else but after that i heal back up and go offensive. This indicates to me, that kind of dps isn't sustainable in longer duels.

All this questionning on about if OP is a skilled players or not, if the other guy had 1000cp or not.

Stop being a bunch of smartbums about this so the thread can evolve, K?

They're minor passive boosts. +1% heavy armor, +2.2% crit damage, -4% sneak costs. Stuff like that. You start earning points when you hit Vet 1, and get one roughly every 100k XP you earn (400k if you're not enlightened... you'll be told what that means when you get there.)

Over time you can build a pretty impressive bonus here or there. And 900CP is getting up there. That's potentially a couple substantial modifiers, or a whole lot of really minor ones.

You are simply wrong. I suggest you go do some testing on the pts.
The numbers are never wrong and the tests were already made (which I'd prefer instead of unthinkingly repeating other people's guess-based opinions).

    Character Power vs CP invested:

    The initial statements were:
    • Characters get overwhelming majority of their CP-related power around 300-360 CP (all 3 color-trees with 100CP+ each)
    • Therefore only the first 300-360 CPs are dead-crucial to get the most benefit
    • Therefore additional CP above 300-360CP threshold are not really that important

    I. Blue Trees - DPS output:

For purpose of this test we're maxing:
    1) Main DPS boosting CP: Thaumaturge (for +25% damage output at 100CP invested)
    2) Staff Expert afterwards for Staff-weaving (after reaching 100CP above)
    3) Spell Erosion afterwards for additional damage bonus (abv.)

(Note: The test-character is a Magicka Nightblade with ca. 2000 Spell Damage and ca. 35000 Magicka)

    Funnel Health with Staff-weaving output:
    DiwAfk4.jpg

Full DPS rotation with Staff-weaving output:
    beoPFzT.jpg

II. Red Trees - Damage Mitigation and Utility:

For purpose of this test we're maxing:
    1) Main DPS mitigating CP: Elemental Defender (for Elemental DMG) or Hardy (for Magicka/Poison)
    2) Secondary DPS mitigating CP: Spell Shield (after reaching 100CP for max of -25% bonus).

(Note: The character is 5/1/1 Light/Medium/Heavy build, ca. 10k Spell Resistance and getting hit by Concealed Weapon using mirror character; 50% Spell Crit)

    xzFbZB5.jpg

III. Green Trees - Cost Reduction and Regeneration:

For purpose of this test we're maxing:
    1) Main Cost Reduction CP: Magician (for -25% bonus, maxed)
    2) Main Stat Regenetaion CP: Arcanist (for +25 bonus, maxed and assuming this is needed at all)

(Note: The spell of choice was Sap Essence; two Cost Reduction enchantments on jewerly)

    wuyBGCq.jpg

    IV. Conclusion:
    • You're getting the most benefits up to 300-360 CP.
    • All CP above mentioned threshold give mostly a slight increase in character's power - be it +300CP or +900CP.

    V. Additional comments related to discussion:
    • Unexperienced/casual player is not likely be saved by the bonuses granted above 300-360CP threshold alone (Player Skill > Character Power).
    • Unexperienced/casual player is likely be saved by having the very first 300-360CP passive bonuses unlocked.
    • Unexperienced/casual players will eventually reach 300-360CPs (possible by September/October 2015 by using enlightenment pool only).
    • Obviously, different character setups would focus on different CP passives, thus provide different feedback. The reason for the charts is to provide general visual feedback for CP-amount invested versus Power Gained curves progress.
Thank you for your time!
The joke is the excuses people come up with...
