I am very new to ESO so maybe I am just being a newb.....

As of this morning I am getting that error on 2 different computers.
Sometimes it tells me the server is offline for maintenance, but I read that is not happening today.
I've done all the suggested things except send a ticket containing the game consultant text file. I did create the file - more later.
I can't even run the repair because I get the same exact error.
I was set to use the EU server so I switched to US. Same errors.
Yes, power cycled my computer also.

So I looked at the game consultant text file and found the following errors.

Tracing route to launcher.bethesda.net [198.20.198.100]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

-snip-

6 66.192.243.226
7 * * 66.195.111.98 reports: Destination net unreachable.

several with:
(these are tracing to the akamai.net and various .patcher.elderscrollsonline.com urls)

Hop RTT Lost/Sent = Pct Lost/Sent = Pct Address

-snip-

6 --- 1/ 1 =100% 1/ 1 =100% 35.248.0.86

Is there potentially something going on someplace on the net preventing me from reaching the necessary game locations? Or is there some totally obvious mistake I am making?

This article is for the server offline message you are seeing: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25964/kw/servers down for maintenance?_ga=1.267741326.1622812821.1396102861

Maybe it will fix some of your other issues.

    Thanks for the link!

I've been playing ESO for 14 days now with no issues until today.
Not really thinking it is the distribution disks launcher error described in that link. I will try it, not really expecting it to solve the problem, but sure hope it does.
I remember it patched in gigs of data after I installed the game end of December 2014.

I was getting exactly the same errors yesterday and a similar resolution page for the Servers Offline did not fix the problem with not being able to reach198.20.198.100. I turned in a ticket with ZEOS, but never heard back from them. Hopefully, the issue will be fixed when I log on tonight.
I've been playing since beta and this is the longest I've gone without being able to log in and I also wonder if this is a Internet infrastructure issue.

    Oh well.
Following the instructions in that link made things worse.
Now it sits forever at Loading.....
The launcher doesn't even get as far as it did before the fix.

Good thing I renamed the old launcher folder rather than deleting it.
    Lol.

Yes, WingedMoose, it does appear to be an infrastructure type issue. The lack of hordes of people clamoring to the board complaining about it makes it appear to be something other than the servers.

OK, I figured out the issue.

I use Vipre Internet Security software.
Apparently sometime today or yesterday they decided to flag some or all of Bethesda's site as a malicious web site and so I found their url being blocked in that area.
Yup, it was blocking all of the places the launcher needed to go. I added bethesda.net to the "bad website" exception list and everything works again.

Its frustrating because I looked at the firewall first thing, but NOT for malicious web site url blocking. I assumed the patch stuff was from some non website server. So much for assuming.

I feel like an idiot... I simply should have turned the FW off for a few minutes and tested ESO rather than look for the issue manually. I just hate turning it off, even for a minute. In this case, as they say, Paranoia will destroy ya...

So, if anyone else has this issue and is using Vipre they will probably need to add bethesda.net to their exception list.
