Yeah, what the deuce??? They said I could play how I want and I want to play a flying, nuking, singing templar with laser beams that hands out juice and cookies to the good girls and boys. Get on that!!!

Nuking? Must be referring to the blazing shield bug that got fixed. Now what? Back to the end of the line for you!

PvP and PvE are not equals either in terms of killing potential. Templar does ok in PvP, but for trials, then are only wanted for healing, and even then only one is typically needed

Can't DPS in trials which use one healer.

Can't CC really, so not really a tank, considering the best quality tanks bring in this game is CC.......since there's no true aggro table.

seducer, warlock and syrabane is probably one of the worst setups you can use for dps though.

With that you lack some heavy crit chance and spelldamage. No wonder you cant DPS ;) I all the time see DD Templars with 1k dps at least in trials. But i cant tell you the build they use, since i just dont know. i am not playing templar.

But for gear setup use 4x Aether(Trial drop) if you dont have it yet get 4x willow path instead, 4x twilight embrace and either warlock jewelry or the better choice Soulshine v10 rings and neck. Than you are at least fit as DD with your gear.

I think every Templar DPS would use Willow + Twilight + Soulshine but ... Templar have no magicka management abilities. We need Seducer and Warlock if we do not want to run out of magicka a tenth of the way through every endgame boss fight. Sure, we can gulp potions or use Spell Symmetry or use a resto staff light attack. Lots of players need to do that during long boss fights. But Templars have to do it way more than other classes and all that time spent on magicka management is time not spent doing damage.

If the endgame was not full of DPS races and killing the boss slowly but surely was a valid tactic, it might not be a big deal. But endgame is full of crazy DPS races before bosses enrage and wipe the group and you need like 9 or 10 DPS players in a 12 man trial group.

Having one class being practically locked out of 80% of the roles in endgame PVE content? That is a horrible design decision.

I 110% agree with that statement. That's why this game has great potential but honestly reminds me of a bad old school Asian mmo where a class was limited to literally one role

^^That too, and I keep forgetting to mention this like all the time, but an idea that keeps popping in my head every time I see it is Piercing Javelin. For the base skill and all it's morphs, why not let it's damage increase the lower the health of the enemy, make it a baller as hell Ranged Executed move.

EDIT* And for Aurora Javelin, instead of damage increased over distance, have it deal increase Crit Rating and Damage.

Also, for the love of *** God @ZOS why can't Templars stack or use more than one Backlash and Backlash morph? Seriously, you gimp the everliving *** out of our DPS when you do that. If you're going to force that to be a thing, then god damn it increase the DPS of the rest of our skills so we're not violently gimped.

Yup, logged on to my Templar just long enough to get him to VR14 and then parked him again. Back to leveling my sorc and hopefully I will actually get to see some endgame content soon.

This recent patch helped quite a bit in letting Templar's do damage roles, but it still falls short due to the fact that so few of our class skills are actually used. The majority of my DPS is really nothing but 2H attacks and 2 Aedric Spear skills. For my bow it's one Backlash with Venom Arrow and Vampire's Bane spam. It just feels a bit...idk...Lacking to me.

They are still significantly behind the other three classes. That's really all that matters.

I've been leveling a Templar ( only level 29 currently ) and I've had a blast both in PVE and PVP. I can solo dolmens, tank dungeons and in PVP my little guy is a beast ( against non-veterans ). I know that has nothing to do with end game DPS, and I have no idea how Templars scale in veteran levels, but I really like how the class is currently playing. With my current knowledge I fear that if they buff it anymore, there will be big nerfs later.

Templars are arguably the best class in PVP.

PVE DPS is awful though. Even the best build is some 20% off the top build of Sorcs, DK's, and NB's.

They don't need to nerf. They simply need to fix Blazing Shield damage.

I just quote what Zenimax wrote in the character selection screen that made me play a templar:

"These traveling knights call upon the powers of light and the burning sun to deal massive damage to their enemies while restoring health, magicka and stamina to their allies!"

Massive damage to the gamer behind the pc xD

I cant see any reason to templars being op. Due to the broken shield you mean? Or broken lame jab spam? When they finally manage to insert cc immunity into game, jab spam will be history.

Heals and survivability? No? We are clerics/paladins after all.. (Edit: Most of the time a templar use only 2 skills in restoring light tree which they meant to synergise between each other, but unsurprisingly they don't because of a bug since beta, like many other skills.)

Half of our skills and passives are either broken or not working at all and have stupid cool downs and wonky animations that shuts character for couple seconds.
We just need fixes and love.
Also maybe some overhaul on class' resource management and overall damage increase as well.

True, sent my share of bug reports about templar broken skills, passives and skill scaling. Some do get fixed eventually. But than new ones arise next patch.

Restoring Light is probably the worse one, passives not working since early access. Aedric Spear is more a case of animation mess. You're almost CC'ing yourself with certain skills.

I guess all classes have issues with broken skills, passives and skills not scaling properly. But I also play sorcerer and DK VR+, their array of skills and passives are no way near as troublesome as my templars.

As a templar I normally heal or tank.
But I keep three sets on me (all light) for three different roles

    (Healing set)
    5 Seducer + 5 Warlock
    (Tanking set)
    5 Hist Bark + 5 Magicka Furnace
    (Dps Set)
    2 Worm's Raiment (+8 Spell Damage)
4 Way of Martial Knowledge (16 Spell Damage)
    2 Torgu's Pack (+8 Spell Damage)

I asked Atropos on Tamriel Foundry to touch base regarding Templar end game DPS and it appears that any changes are not very concrete yet.
I talked with Wrobel a bit more about Templar DPS tonight and he mentioned some potential changes that will help the Templar offensive lines function in a more natural (and effective way). I wasn’t able to wrangle too many specifics, but the general idea is if you think about how different abilities should function (as intended) within the scope of their skill line, the ZOS team is identifying skills that aren’t performing the role that they are intended to fill to a sufficient level. This is a problem that affects some of the offensive Templar skills when compared to what other classes have available, so some tweaks to Templar balance will likely be included in future updates.

It doesn't look like it's a high priority item despite the fact that Templars essentially still only have two viable potential slots in any non-dragonstar trials group. And even then, there's not a whole lot they bring to the table that can't be schemed around in a DPS role. Which is probably good, as that's what you would want. But that doesn't change the fact that Templar DPS still blows.
