ESO PvP. Zergy, Boring, and Pointless

  • infob16_ESO630
I tried again to get into Cyrodiil and the whole PvP thing but once more I'm amazed how bad it's implemented. I literally spend 90% of the time just trying to get between places. This is supposed to be PvP but the area is simply too big to be functional.

I want to be doing PvP 90% of the time, not the other way around, and the whole experience can be summed up in one word... boring. Either give us battleground sized PvP where you spend most of the time doing actual PvP or make it faster for us to travel so we can get to the fights within a minute or less.

One other thing is that there are no one-vs-one action since everyone are zerging around in large groups. This actually prevents ppl from getting better since they can't train properly against different opponents. As it is now you always encounter large gatherings and you have no real idea of who in the bunch your actually attacking, what they are doing and if and when you are supposed to block and counter attack. It's a mess. >.<

You're wanting the same type of pvp I want for this game. The thing i'm starting to realize the more I discuss this topic is some people like the current type of pvp.

I'm not really sure how. I guess it takes all kinds, but its sinking in that this game might just not be for players like us.

This is the core problem of giving players no Alternative options. I feel like the game isn't for me...Even though I really enjoyed getting to v10. But the feature I was looking forward to the most, PvP is just terrible in my eyes. The key is that's how it looks in my eyes. and not to others.

The feeling I've gotten is like when when you've been looking forward to a party all week then you finally get there and you instantly can tell its not you're scene. You try and have fun for a little but really it just turns into being disappointing.

ESO isn't forcing me to leave, what their doing is showing me the door.

I wish I could get a ZOS Mod to at least say they hear and understand our thoughts.

I think a Q&A with their PvP team is needed. Players like me and you will not resub next month if we feel like this isn't for us.

I'd really really love a discussion with the PvP team. But i'm just a nobody in the game community. So I don't think that'd happen.

so, 4v4 or gvg arenas on daily timers to keep them from being farmed, thus distracting from cyrodiil?

When ever someone says that new PvP options would "detract from Cyrodiil" my thought is, "who the hell cares?"

If people would rather be doing small scale PvP instead of Cyrodil, they should be able to. This game is "play how you want to play" not "play my way because if I allow you to play your way less people will be playing my way."

I agree with this but alliance war gear should be better then other options PvP.

You guys really don't follow the ESO news...do you?

You asked for a discussion with the PvP team. I'll give you an interview with the PvP manager of ESO: (Along with Q&A from most of the manager staff)

I can understand certain people don't like Cyrodiil and want arenas so wheres whats going to happen.

Phase 1 arena given......Hey ZOS you gave us the arenas but theres a lack of people in it theres NO INCENTIVE to fight in the arenas you need to fix this.

Phase 2 Incentive given....Hey ZOS you told us we would have DAoC style combat but your giving all the incentive to go do the arenas and now that's the only way to do pvp.

Phase 3 Cyrodiil incentives are now increased further blah blah blah

You came to the game looking for something you knew wasn't here or your research sucked.

ZOS WANTS Cyrodiil THATS WHY THEY BUILT IT.....there is NO incentive to build arenas cause there are other games for that and you can find small group battles if you stay away from the zergs and help in a different fashion.

There is a WIN to the PVP its owning the PVP scene FOR your faction and owning all the keeps and scrolls and shutting down your opponents and crowning an Emperor....HECK you can even TRY to be Emperor yourself .

I think what ZOS NEEDS to do with the next cycle of PVP is close ALL PVP instances and open 1 and when it gets "full" open another and rinse and repeat.

Game needs more spawn points. Mine. Farm. Timber Yard. All should be spawn points. Towns that create PVE also should be spawnable.

Really your group of 6 takes out 20-60 people? Man scrub bashing sounds fun.

    My v10 DK would roll you...I know because I haven't ran into a 1v1 that I've lost. So I doubt I'd loose in a 61v6.

I can tell you're a scrub though by your name and your post.

Also the fact that you can't win or lose in Cyrodill is pretty meh

I think this is the biggest problem with why people get bored with it.

Warhammer Online, ya craptastic engine, but there was a goal, a light at the end of the rainbow. True you didn't always get to attack the opposing factions city today.

RvR without something to win is just as you said kind of meh after awhile. And I think GW2 has this same problem with WvW.

I liked the Warhammer consequences if you lost your capitol and had to rebuild it through game play to get access to the T4 dungeons again

I am kind of baffled how people NEED flashy messages "You win!" or be given a cookie at the end just to keep them interested. The point of a videogame is entertainment. The point of PvP is having fun. You are not having fun because there isn't anything to tell you you have won or lost and no reward at the end? Seriously?
That aside, I would love if they introduced a lot more consequences for what happens in Cyrodiil. Long term, world-impacting consequences. We'll possibly see something when the Imperial City is added.
Until then I'll keep having fun just by measuring myself against human opponents.

The point is that PvP needs to have a start and a finish. Why would I ever want to fight in the alliance war if it never actually ends? What difference would my contribution actually make? Victory / defeat conditions lead to competition, and competition leads to entertainment. Its nice to have those goals, as without them, its just an endless fight for no real reason.

As I said, there are lots of ways to "win," you just aren't looking at them as such.

Ok, for example, let's compare Warhammer Online to ESO, as this is one of the examples given in this thread for an MMO with "goals."

In WAR, the goal was to take over the keeps of one zone to open up the opportunity to take keeps in the next zone. After you've taken enough keeps, you get to sack a capital city and fight your enemy's king. Then the entire war magically resets and you start over as if nothing had happened.

In ESO, you take over keeps to gain territory and eventually either capture scrolls or crown a new Emperor, potentially fighting against the Emperor of your enemy as well. Once you accomplish one of these goals, you have to defend. Nothing is reset.

The only difference I see, besides the extremely linear system WAR had, is that the former announces "You Win!" and then resets everything. What makes this somehow more rewarding? For me, it's actually far less rewarding to win in WAR because there is no evidence of my actions whatsoever. I might as well not have done anything. It's like taking over a country and then choosing to withdraw all your forces as soon as you succeed, just because. In ESO, if you capture a scroll, for instance, you have that scroll. You've won and you continue to be the winner for as long as you can keep that scroll. Your actions actually have ramifications beyond a pop-up message. To me, that feels like a worthy goal.

Lol it could cost gold to do arenas and players would still do it more the AvA.

This game shouldn't have quest trading or guilds either because other games have that too.

Telling someone you aren't confident in a 1v1 is the same as saying you have to have teammates to be an effective player.

So far your logic is as follows: Groups bigger than 6 are noob zerglings. Going solo means you don't have friends. Honestly you aren't hiding anything with your poorly worded posts.

And for the other guy thinking he is hot *** playing a broken class with maxed gear... well I hate to tell him, but it's not very impressive either.

Unfortunately, you can't find fair small-scale PvP doing dailies.
I was doing dailies yesterday. Found AD guy of the same level(even!). We started the fight and it was cool and interesting, but then 2 of his friends came and 3v1 I had no chances. Where is fun? It's just frustrating, that I lose not because I don't play good/lack some skill, I lose because it is impossible for me to win.

It wasn't fun when I just logged in and those 3 guys killed me where I appeared either. It's not PvP, it's !@#$%

People have gotten used to pvp in small confined battleground/arena like environments that allow them to control every variable. Back in the day, mostly due to technological limitations, 5 x 5 (and higher) pvp was the way to go. Thankfully, we no longer have those limitations.

ESO offers a different pvp experience, a large playfield that attempts to duplicate war,vs a 5 minute mini game. I knew this going in, this style of pvp is simply not for everyone; its really that simple.

Not sure what you are talking about, several past mmos have had large scale pvp before ESO.
