Request for a change in hireling timer mechanics

Oh this stinks! How did I not realize this before? I have 3/3 on enchanting, clothing and woodworking and totally spaced that I wasn't getting two mails from each per day. Working full time there's no way I'll be able to log on every day every twelve hours. Boo. :(

Yup...its such a tiny issue but good lord it is really rubbing me the wrong way lol.

As it stands now I am missing one delivery a day, I am unable to get online in the mornings...

They should at least allow them to stack in a 24hr period...so that way we can get at them should we maybe have a job or family things to do.

Changing the time frames is nice but would not address the issue of the second delivery over riding / deleting the previous delivery if it was not opened/received.

Would prefer it to just check when you log in, if you have any unclaimed Hireling chests, then mail them to you retroactive.

It then just becomes changeable character data per character, rather than a glut of unread hireling mail in the system.

I have 3 points in Blacksmithing, Clothier, Woodworking, Enchanting and Provisioning. I also log in at 8 am and get my coffer for each of the professions. I am meant to get a second coffer 12 hours later for Blacksmithing, Clothier, Woodworking and Provisioning. So I log in 8pm, 9pm, 10pm just to keep checking everyday, but there is no second coffer for these professions despite clearly stating that they are 12 hours apart. I have logged a bug report ticket every day that this has occurred for the last 3 weeks.

To this day, I have not seen a single response from ZoS, the issue still persists and although it shouldn't bother me. That is approximately 21 coffers per profession that I am now missing. I simply could of had these skillpoints otherwise allocated if prior knowledge that it wasn't working, but I just simply do not want to spend 11k to retrait when this shouldn't be a bug still being reported this many weeks after launch.

Come on ZoS, How about you fix this and settle a resolute for these missing coffers for the paying playerbase.

or just make them bring supplies on a fixed timer.

like, sending you mail at 0:00 (clothing), 0:30 (blacksmithing), 1:00 (woodworking), .... (so the system won't collapse after sending X mails to every character on the whole megaserver)

My gaming laptop broke recently and it took me a week to download and set up ESO on a 9 yo laptop (that barely gives 2-9 fps on minimum details) to at least feed horses and set up research, only to find out that even though I was offline for more than a week, I only got 1 mail from each hireling..

Also, if you worry about abuse, then make hirelings only send mails to the LAST ONLINE CHARACTER OF AN ACCOUNT (so exploiters won't have 8 characters farming).

it's just kinda disappointing to get online after a week and see that one hireling brought you 2 hemmings, the other got you 1 Trait stone and the third brought you 5 pieces of wood..

I really hate how the timers reset based on when you are online to receive the email. These emails should function the same as researching traits - offline time is counted and not when I receive the email.

Also, server downtime should not impact these email timers. Unfortunately they do as the emails always shift by the same 2-4 hours the servers are down for maintenance and patches.

As to the 3/3 hireling sending twice, they should just send 2 bags at the same time, since logging in twice a day just isn't an option for most people.

Yes please! 3/3 is a waste of points for me atm because I am only able to login in the morning on weekends. This would be an excellent fix.

I as well log in often, and I have missing mail regularly, created ticket about it, got ignored .... And since I got hireling to level 3 on all the craft, it got even worse ...
So I feel the same pain as ya :(

This should have been addressed a long time ago.

Is anyone else still having the issue where the hireling emails don't show up until you re-log? If I'm online at the time they should drop, I won't get an email until I re-log. even if that's hours later. Really messes with the daily reset time when you forget to re-log

    Wait no, don't do that!
I have a sorcerer doing 3 crafts, my NB doing 2, and my DK doing one. If they make it so only the last character you logged onto gets hirelings mail, you hurt anyone crafting on more than one character. Vet ranks already make alts kinda less desired, this would just kill them.

Also, many provisioners, myself included, get as many extra provisioner hirelings up to 3/3 as we can, since our rare ingredients ONLY come from hirelings, and weeks can pass without seeing the one we need with just one hirelings. This suggestion would seriously hurt regular players.

They already made the check happen on mailing instead of opening. No way should they make it so only one character can have any hirelings. If I want to grind 5 mules crafting up to get more hirelings bags, I should be allowed to do that, since they cannot get mats above their crafting level now.

    This is absolutely necessary

The hireling system is a bad system as it stands. It creates a game mechanic the dictates actions to your customers in real life.

To get my deliveries 2 times a day I have to get up before work and log in and wait for it to deliver. To get my evening delivery I have to log on when i get home from work and wait for it to deliver.

This puts me and the game in an adversarial relationship where if the delivery is not one of the best, I feel like the devs have wasted my real life time.

and even when you time it right the deliveries are not always exactly 12 hours (but they are NEVER less then 12) so the whole thing even if timed perfectly keeps moving out of sync till you miss a delivery and it resets. Like this morning when my morning delivery time had pushed past 7 and you have maint so the system is down.

The logged in requirement NEEDS to be either explained (and it would have to be good), or removed.

We are already required to pay our subscription AND spec the skill in game, the additional attempt at running our lives too is an unnecessary additional component.

and before you say if it is that bad don't get it, there is no other way to get tomatoes. The hireling for provisioning is an absolute requirement even though the rewards are not on par with the other crafts.

I don't mean to sound confrontational but I feel very strongly about this, and it is eroding my enjoyment of the game in general. This is a far more urgent matter then you my think.

That getting up early works fine except for when they patch or take the game down for 2-3 hrs and I can't.

    3. Set the timers to 20 hours after last pickup and send both chests simultaneously for tier 3.

That's my preferred choice. Every other game I played that had something on a daily cooldown has always been 20 hours.
  • colonel_schmeevin
I agree with having the mail sent at 2 set times everyday. You shouldn't have to log in twice or 3 or 4 times to check it and get them. We put in the skill and the description was deceiving (a lot like ZOS's 30 days included free gameplay with imperial edition). The mail should stack until u run out of mail slots. If ppl want to farm, so what. I personally don't farm and will use them on armor. But if ppl want to sell them and ppl are willing to buy them then what's the issue? It's a market and there is demand. To me, having gold is pretty much useless except to repair, feed a horse and buy bank/bag space. So give me the materials I deserve dangit!

I agree a 20 hour timer and for 3/3 just deliver double the materials at the same time would be a nice fix. If it could stack up for a week or two between logins that would be even better.

I enjoy crafting, but don't have time to play more than a couple times a week. I was really looking forward to this feature.

My hireling never delivers materials like they are suppose too. Doesn't matter how many times I log in on all hireling characters, most of the time I still only end up with one delivery per day, and I play every day. I log into all my alts doing inventory managment, and crafting. The system has never been accurate. It should just deliver both sets at the same time and be done with it. None of this waiting for so many hours till the next one comes or not because you don't log in. They should be delivering even if you don't log in anyway, after all I did invest the points in the skill. There is no fine print that says I had to be on line to receive it in the mail. So if I go on vacation for a week or have a family member in the hospital all life stops on my account........lol

Just have the hirelings send the mail 24 hours after the last one. No logging in, just send the damn thing. If i miss logging in a couple days, well, i'll have multiple in the mailbox to clean out.... at least it'll be something other than the fraking gold selling spam i get from those pos gold sellers. Nice, simple, clean, done.

It's structured that way to promote logging in daily. I do wish the 3/3 was just more materials rather than a second shipment.

I would also love to see the timer changed to 20hrs like the horse, so it's flexible for people who have changing schedules.

Personally, I don't mind the 12/24 hour timer much... but it not being at a set clock time, and not happening unless I've logged in and gotten the mail is ridiculous. I miss at least 3 bags per maintenance day... so 6-12 a week. Within a month, that could be enough for me to craft a Legendary set to sell online for $350 USD... for a guildie.

Really? I'm hording myself but I could make part of one. I'll just give it to my son. ;)

Two options for Zenimax here as I see it.

    1. Fixed times. eg 8 am and 8pm with 23hrs 59mins to collect each.

    2. Update the description and add in block capitals "DO NOT TAKE A THIRD POINT IN THIS PASSIVE IF YOU CAN'T LOGIN AT THE EXACT SAME TIME TWICE PER DAY IN 12 HOUR INTERVALS (AND ARE PREPARED TO ATTEMPT MULTIPLE LOGINS TO "MAKE" THE MAIL ARRIVE. WHATEVER YOU DO. DO NOT LOGIN BEFORE THE TIME THE MAIL IS DUE FOR COLLECTION AND GET INVOLVED IN ACTIVITIES THAT MIGHT MAKE YOU FORGET THAT THE MAIL IS DUE AND NOT REALISE UNTIL 3 HOURS LATER THAT THEY STILL HAVEN'T APPEARED BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T DO THE RELOG SHUFFLE AT THE RIGHT TIME !!!!!"

Indeed, those hirelings are a bit of a "scam". I tried to invest skill points on them with any of my characters able to do so, hoping I would then receive deliveries of materials as expected, and maybe get something good once in a while. Of course, I am talking about the 3rd level hirelings.

As it is, I hardly ever receive the second delivery. Certainly NOT on a freaking weekday. So what do they expect from people? To quit their jobs so they can bloody time their logins to accommodate hireling deliveries? Like many working people, I believe, I am only able to login in the evenings, so as the system stands I never get the chance for the 2nd delivery? This is real poopz.

Deliveries should certainly and definitely happen whether you are online or not. What is the point in investing skill points and leveling a crafting profession then? Like, I should be right there and wait for the hen to lay the egg when she feels ready for it? Jeez.

Fix this. Perhaps it sounds like a minor problem among the many, but it just adds to the overall "frustration factor". And I am sure it takes very little effort to correct.

Too often i have been logged in 24 hours after last delivery and not get the mail for an hour or more. So work on that and don't say it works as intended as it is not working. And lock out the server downtime as well. They should not make the delivery 2-5 hours late. Specialy if things go wrong and server is down a long time.

    Dear Zos and @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌

It would be a very nice thing with these hirelings IF we would get the mails on fixed times, or IF the timer was set to every 20 hours like mounts, as people previously have suggested.

At the moment there does seem to be a problem when you are logged in, that you wont get a mail from them at the time you should.
To force the mail to appear, you need to log out and in again, this off course is something that works on any mail atm.

As someone who has invested a good deal of skill points on all his characters, it can be frustrating with the 12 hour timer between the mails, if you have hirelings at lvl3.
It gets really frustrating when the server goes down, intended or unintended, since that will move the timer for us.

Therefor I implore @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ to get in contact with the developers/team in charge of the crafting part of the code, and have them look into this or perhaps even make a statement to us the players about this situation and if there may come changes in the future on this part of it, so we can plan accordingly.
We're born, we live, we die. And along the way, you do the best with whatever crap you step in :p

I'm stranded all alone in the gas station of love, And I have to use the self-service pumps <3

Motivation alone is not enough. If i had an idiot with me and i motivated him, then i will have a motivated idiot to do stuff :s
