Please stop stealing chests being worked on.

Ok folks if you come up on a chest being worked on, please let that person alone. Don't wait for them to fail and immediately take over and basicly steal the chest.
Let them walk away, they got to the chest first, don't be rude.

This happened to me yesterday on a Master chest, missed my first attempt by a tick, with a player just waiting for the steal and sure enough they stole it. I asked them to stop, then reported them.

I know there are those of you that will see this on the side of the thief which is fine, everyone has an opinion.

It seems to me like it's a first come first serve and if you fail the next person to click whether it's your or the next guy is next in line. I disagree with you entirely, I'm afraid. It's frustrating when it happens to you, but why should someone wait for you to get it right when you fail?

Nothing wrong if someone fails to open the chest and you give it a try. Practice on your lock picking skills. I've never had a chest taken from me I was picking.

i have had people try to ninja the chest if i fail or if i dont press r immediately after opening. You just have to be faster then them to loot it or hope they miss the chance to pick it. if you lose, then you stay on them and try to loot it once they open it or be ready to try your chance if they fail.

you both are thieves eh? role play one

and honestly, what is the big deal? a green item that you sell for small amt or deconstruct

Its simple, they got there first and they should be able to try and open it, without another person, IMO, hoping they fail and then stealing it. I'm sure you have failed on your first try. Is it wrong asking people to just not be rude ?

While I would not hover over someone and jump in on a chest, I do not see how that is a reportable offense.

Besides, even the Masters do not normally contain anything worth stressing over.

The key is don't fail. I'm not great at this sort of activity but I can reliably pick an advanced or lower chest without fail. I've been practicing (like on every chest I see obviously) and getting better. I'd like to be able to reliably pick a master chest but thus far no dice takes me a few tries.

One note on chests, I've found that in general travels, in the time that I see a chest I've probably gotten 10 times the loot from mobs that I would get from a single chest.

I've had plenty of people run up and start jumping up and down, trying to distract me while I'm picking a chest but It doesn't fluster me in the least. I finish opening the chest, loot it and ride my horse away laughing that they wasted their time.

Well this is generally my policy anyways. I actually saw someone fail a chest in Stonefalls the other day and I left them alone to retry even though chests, rather than bosses, is were I get most of my loot from.

I can see your point. I also love it when I'm killing a mob by a chest and someone runs past me and grabs the chest without helping kill the mob. The warden (my wife) really gets nervous when other players are near her chest attempts - she hasn't quite mastered the tumblers yet and knowing that someone's ready to gank her chest really gets her worked up. It's usually me waiting to gank her chest when she fails, and she always slings something at me across the desk when I do...

They are able to try and open it. They got there first, they get the first try. That's fair.

But failing means you blew your try, and now someone else can have theirs. ZOS put a cooldown on the lockpicking ability after a failed try for a reason.

It's not stealing or ganking or there wouldn't be a timer followed by a cool down before you can try again if you fail.

There are plenty of chests for everyone so I don't understand why people waste their time waiting around for someone to fail. Move along a few paces & there's another one, just waiting to be opened.

That said, yes, basic manners would be nice but this is an MMO. Common decency isn't very common I'm afraid.

It can be annoying when someone waits there in case you fail, true. They are not technically doing anything wrong by jumping in if you fail, but it is a tad immature, IMO. However I don't really have issue with that.

What I do, however, have issue with is the following. Say I unlock a chest, having no idea how many good items will be available to me before opening. Now I'm sure everyone who crafts has inventory issues when farming mats/chests. So I open a chest, grab what I can/have space for, then attempt to rummage through my bags to see what is of lesser importance so I can toss it and make room for whatever items remain. Then some child opens my already unlocked chest and grabs the item for which I was making room. Now that is pure and simple immature MMO behavior. Not "reportable" ...but I've played MMOs for over 15 yrs. Eventually once you do that to enough people, you end up with a server reputation and it bites you later on.

Opened a master chest after a couple of attempts and when opening chest my inventory was full. When I made space in my inventory the items from the opened master chest were taken by some loser that was waiting around the whole time for me to open the chest. This is pretty annoying and I think this is just poor game design. I would say that loot should be restricted to the person opening the chest for a limited amount of time, to allow for inventory sorting/cleaning.

Wow, you reported a player for that, OP?!

No wonder customer service don't have enough resources to deal with gold spammers and real problems with ppl like you making reports for crap like that....

People are *** and they do things that annoy you, it's life. When they come out with bots to steal chests, then I would say there is something to whine about :P

If you failed , you failed , that simple. Same reason im not going to wait until you decide you want to gather a node near you , either you do it before i do , or you lost it.

Only time i open a gap in this , is when the player is still fighting a mob that was protecting the node , out of that , i dont even care if you are going to cry.

Still , i dont think i have failed even once in the last 2 weeks to open a chest in my first try , from easy to adv.

When you fail, you aren't even allowed to instantly retry, so it is a game rule.
And NOT letting my 3 Year old daughter try again when she failed is a tad attitude, but with mature ppl? There's where i agree to @ElSlayer‌ HTFU!

So you failed, it happens but you know what is more d0uche move? When you see a chest that is guarded by mobs, you start fighting them and then some d0uchebag comes along and steals it while you are fighting the mobs and then he/she even leaves you without any help with the mobs even. You can not take it until the mobs are killed and they will only target you since you are the only one attacking those mobs.

Now that, if something is irritating.

I personally do not "steal" by the method, because its a bit rude; but it is not theft. You had your shot; other people will get theirs. I also don't run to a chest while a fight it in progress which is definately more rude, but I don't get mad either when it happens to me. There will be other chests.

Taking a chest from a failure is just a bit of fun. I never complain if it happens to me I just /say lol or gl or something. My fault for failing.

If I get one off someone and they complain I simply do not respond. I might do a /lute or something to try and remind them it is a game and there are other people in it.

I didn't realize when I commented before that the OP said he or she reported a player for ganking a chest after his or her fail...? That's far more unconscionable than ganking a chest. Good job wasting a staff member's time AND falsely accusing someone of breaking the rules.
